Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan highlights the passage from Surah Al Hijr which forms the heart of this Khutbah. "Do not place in our hearts any Ghil for those who believe." What is Ghill? The Ustadh provides an elaborate and explicit explanation for the same in the context of the Arabic language and also in light of our Deen. The forgiveness of Allah cannot be matched or even be compared to the forgiveness of humans. Why do we indulge in Ghill? It is because we cannot let go of the depth of the problem and hence, do not want to let our guard down and be exposed to another attack. This baggage that we carry with us may make us bitter people which is not a pleasant scenario. What is the solution to this predicament? How do we get rid of the ill feelings and grudges that we harbor in our lives endlessly? Listen intently to get enlightened so that we are the dwellers of Paradise.

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan implores us to tread on the path to repentance in order for us to savor the fruits of Jannah wholly. Who are we to judge the sinners and carry on labeling them all of our life? This is all the more true when they have repented to Allah. The truth of the matter is that we are human beings, we are weak and we are sinners and most importantly we seek the Almighty’s constant Astaghfar. It is our ultimate duty to turn to Allah with sincere repentance as we will have no excuse or escape without turning into sincere repentance. With our mere excuses and manipulations, we are in reality only cheating ourselves and everyone else, not Allah. We are so weak emotionally, spiritually, psychologically and with that Tawbah, we hope to better ourselves for Allah. We should pray to Allah that He gives us the strength to make sincere tawbah at any cost. May Allah accept our repentance and forgive us for our misdeeds, Aameen.

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan centers his lecture around the 135th Ayah of Surah Al Nisa that deals with the subject of justice. One of the fruits that grow from the perfection of Iman is justice. ‘O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relatives. Whether one is rich or poor, Allah is more worthy of both. So follow not [personal] inclination, lest you not be just. And if you distort [your testimony] or refuse [to give it], then indeed Allah is ever, with what you do, Acquainted.” Dealing with family can be really testing especially when we are shut down every time we speak up. Speaking the truth should not be a slave of seniority and stature. The truth is the truth no matter how bitter it is and how unpleasant it may be. Justice in Islam, doing your best to avoid injustice, testifying for the love of Allah, sacrifice your feelings for what is right. These are acts that are hard to follow if one is attached incessantly to this dunya. Once we are sure that we want to be on the road to Akhirah and that the reward is Jannah, justice will be easy to handle . It helps us focus on what's wrong and stand up for justice.

Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan centers his lecture around what is the benefit of learning about Firaun given his tyrannical and powerful nature, although he is old and weak. We find that disbelievers are mentioned throughout the Qur'an but one among them who is the closest to Shaytan in terms of evil is Firaun. He is a special phenomenon that is mentioned repeatedly in the Qur'an. His heinous crimes were against Allah and humanity. The meaning of the word - Estakhfaaf - is elaborated upon explicitly and how it is important in the context of the atrocities meted out by Firaun on his people so much so that they failed to retaliate in any manner even though their baby boys were being slaughtered in front of their eyes. The focus of this talk is to delve within ourselves and fathom whether or not we have something of Firaun inside us and how we should be careful if we have such traits within us.

The last ayah of surat al hajj elaborates the purpose for which you and I were chosen by Allah to be honored with Islam. Let's explore together.
