How Can I Help? - Interview with Rod Lake

In this episode I sit down with my friend Rod Lake, delving into his perspectives and lessons learned as an entrepreneur and Hollywood producer. As the founder of numerous companies over the years, from Airborne to Vejo, to the motion pictures he's brought to life, Rod sheds light on his philosophy that gratitude is everything.  As he puts it, success stems from making sure the things that matter least don't overshadow the things that matter most. I hope you enjoy the episode.  There is certainly something here for everyone!

Overcome Fear And Get What You Want

Here is the simple truth about fear: the worst possible outcomes that hold us back almost never come to fruition. Our fears are manufactured stories, and just as they have come to be, they can be torn out at the roots. Similar to jumping into a cold pool, overcoming fear is about increased exposure to a stimulus, and in this episode I discuss a few ways to internalize and acclimate to discomfort so that it can work for us, not against us.

Good Things Take Time

“Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.” - Bill Gates This episode is about little decisions compounding to create substantial change in our lives.  Looking at Darren Hardy's Compound Effect, I examine why our biggest results come not from grandiose action, but from consistency and self-belief over time.

The 80/20 Rule (Pareto Principle)

In this episode I talk about the 80/20 rule that states: 80 percent of our results come from 20% of our effort. Looking into my own processes and routines, I examine which areas I am being truly effective and which may need to be eliminated or refined. Loved Or Hated, But Never Ignored

"There is only one way to avoid criticism; do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing." - Aristotle To share your voice is to open yourself up for criticism. To make anything worthwhile of your life is to put yourself in the crosshairs of doubters and cynics. Success is and always will be polarizing. This episode is about changing the way we think about that growth in our lives, as I advocate for embracing love or hate, but refusing to take the route of indifference.

Everyone Is Insecure

In today's episode I mention a comment made in Tim Ferriss' "Four Hour Workweek" about all human beings being insecure at some level. Why does this matter? Well, people tend to have an authority bias towards those who have accomplished things of significance, placing them on pedestals and acting as though they have all the answers. As though they don't share the same questions and concerns as everyone else. In reality, no one has all the answers or has everything figured out.  The differentiator is that some people push forward anyway.  Like Ryan Holiday states, confidence is earned.  So yes, we are all insecure.  We all have our doubts and problems.  But greatness is about moving forward anyway, knowing the losses will make you stronger and the little victories will ultimately stack up.
