Anxiety is something that so many people wrestle with day to day. As with so many things that impact us and those around us, we find examples of how the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, supported those who struggled with the debilitating impact that anxiety can have. In today's khutbah Imam Khalid Latif will look at the following hadith as a basis for how we can learn to support others who struggle with anxiety the way our Prophet did. Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, entered the mosque one day while a man from the Ansar named Abu Umamah was there. The Prophet said, “O Abu Umamah, what is the matter that I see you sitting in the mosque while it is not time for prayer?” He said, “O Messenger of Allah, I am compelled by anxiety and debts.” The Prophet said, “Shall I not teach you a word to say by which Allah Almighty will relive your worry and complete your debt?” He said, “Of course, O Messenger of Allah.” The Prophet said, “Say in the morning and evening: O Allah, I seek refuge in you from worry and sadness. I seek refuge in you from weakness and laziness. I seek refuge in you from cowardice and miserliness. Shaykh Yahya Rhodus is the Founding Director of Al-Maqasid, an Islamic seminary whose vision is to facilitate the realization of Islam, Iman and Ihsan through immersion in the Prophetic Inheritance. The concept of Al-Maqasid emerged from his own journey which began at the traditional school of Murabit al-Hajj in the desert of Mauritania shortly after his conversion. His path of learning then led him to the acclaimed school Dar al-Mustafa in Tarim, where he received instruction from the renowned scholar and spiritual guide Habib Umar Bin Hafiz. After graduating from Dar al-Mustafa and returning to the United States, he studied in a number of academic institutions, culminating in a PhD in Theology and Religious Studies from the University of Cambridge, England. Shaykh Yahya believes in the necessity of building sound educational institutions that effectively nurture the realities of Islam in the lives of believers so that they can reach their full potential as human beings. He has dedicated his life to teaching and helping others put their knowledge into practice in order to benefit themselves and humanity. In the spirit of what he has learned from his teachers, Shaykh Yahya is committed to a holistic approach to religious life that considers the various dimensions of health and is embedded in love, mercy, knowledge, purity of heart, remembrance of God, good companionship, and concern for all of creation. He hopes his work through Al-Maqasid will help transfer the beautiful religious heritage of Islam to the upcoming generations.

Tawfeeq is something that we quite often ask for in our du'aas, both when we pray directly to Allah and also when we ask others to make du'aa for us. In this two-part khutbah, Imam Khalid Latif gives an overview of what Tawfeeq is, it's definition, and discuss 6 things that Ibn Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, cites as what close that doors of Tawfeeq for us. Ibn Qayyim al-Jawziyyah Shaqeeq Ibn Ibaraheem said: “The doors of success have been closed upon the creation because of six things: 1) Their busying themselves with the blessings of Allah instead of thanking Allah for them, 2) their desire for knowledge while they abandon actions, 3) the hastiness to sin and delaying repentance, 4) the deception of having righteous companions and not taking them as examples, 5) the turning away of the dunya from them while they chase it, 6) and the approach of the afterlife towards them while they turn away from it.” [Reference: Al Fawaai’d by Ibn Al Qayim: P. 161]
