Due to strikes in Venezuela Piers possessions took three months to arrive so he stayed in a hotel in the centre of London ideal for visiting theatres and museums before settling in Gerrards Cross and working on a project with Russia Enjoying Windsor castle, Bath, Brighton,Stratford upon Avon and Stonehenge and visiting York during the Viking festival as well as taking the Eurostar to Paris before it was time for his next posting in Sakhalin Island in Russia.

Pier talks about the festival of Loy Krathong an offering to the Goddess of Water and his passion for growing Orchids. He tells the story of the construction of the Death railway and the famous silk industry 

If the tree trunks don’t get you the Hippos might! Pier is now in Gabon but no swimming in the sea due to the huge tree trunks below the surface, because the trees were waiting to be collected by the tug boats to be taken to the main port and if you are swimming in the esturies watch out for the Hippos. Also an amazing story of Nobel peace prize Albert Schweitzer for his hospital work.Dr Eiffel who built the Eiffel tower used left over metal to build a church the Saint Anne Mission and we talk about Pier’s love of Orchids

Driving on the river bed of a lake that had shrunk by 90% complete with boats that had sunk and were just left there, the vacant city of Abuja and some floors of the Hilton hotel was built but the forest took over so only a few floors could be used. Exploring Venezuela driving over the bridge of Lake Maracaibo which is one of the largerst bridges in the world. Being there for 41/2 years gave Pier ample opportunity to explore this amazing country, including taking a cablecar to the Bolivar Peak at 4978 metres high, however making stops along the way to adjust to the air density. We talk about Colonia Tovar a place that was created by importing almost 400 settlers from Germany and equipment to start a new colony in the German lifestyle which was kept it’s independence until the 1960’s and Pier taking control of the year 2000 project for Shell Venezuela and then due to a general strike Shell employees were evacuated but Pier stayed to defend the castle until his next posting to London

“If you are in your comfort zone then you are stuck” a chance comment from a friend caused Paul & Bea to look at their life differently and decide to make changes. We cover Paul getting into wedding videography, and his first job editing music videos for MTV.
