Dark Side of the Moon with Dr. Ivar Kruusenberg, Founder & CEO of PowerUp Energy Technologies
The team had the pleasure of speaking with Dr. Ivar Kruusenberg about clean mobile power generation and as per usual, accidentally stepped into the zeitgeist, rediscovering those deep bonds between green molecules and energy security.Ivar has discovered a “niche” market that is actually quite large and has built a rapidly growing business, raising capital last December in a market that is reportedly “dead”. Ivar is a unique leader but perhaps one of the bright lights paving the way forward in hydrogen. About Dr. Ivar Kruusenberg:Ivar is a serial entrepreneur, Founder and CEO of PowerUP Energy Technologies. He holds a PhD in chemistry with a focus on fuel cells from the University of Tartu, completed postdoctoral work at UC Berkeley, and has nearly two decades of experience in the field. Dr. Kruusenberg works closely with governments on hydrogen strategy development and previously founded the successful scale-up UP Catalyst. Before his work in deep tech, Ivar was an Estonian national snowboarding champion.About PowerUp:Estonia-headquartered PowerUP Energy Technologies develops and manufactures hydrogen fuel cell generators that provide clean, silent, and reliable power for off-grid, backup, and portable applications. The products replace polluting diesel generators with zero-emission alternatives that can integrate seamlessly with renewable energy sources such as wind turbines and solar power. PowerUP’s product range is commercially available and actively deployed across the marine, healthcare, telecom, construction, and defence sectors.PowerUP was founded in California in 2016, has raised over US$10 million and employs approximately thirty people. --LinksPowerUP Site - https://powerup-tech.com/PowerUP Blog - https://powerup-tech.com/news/

Project Starling with Alasdair Lumsden, Director & Co-Founder of Carbon Neutral Fuels
The team sat down with Alasdair Lumsden, one half of the Carbon Neutral Fuels (CNF) founding team, and discussed CNF’s plan to produce vast amounts of eSAF in the UK. About Alasdair Lumsden:Alasdair is Co-founder and Director of Carbon Neutral Fuels (CNF), a UK-based Sustainable Aviation Fuel developer. About Carbon Neutral Fuels (CNF):CNF was co-founded by Alasdair Lumsden and Sophie Zienkiewicz on the sidelines of COP26 in Glasgow in 2021. Based in the UK, CNF is endeavoring to replace liquid fossil fuels with a more sustainable alternative and developing their modular and scalable Power-to-Liquid (PtL) flagship facility called Starling, a commercial-scale eSAF facility under development in Workington, Cumbria. This facility will convert low-carbon electricity, captured carbon dioxide and water into 25,000 tonnes/year of synthetic kerosene with a 97% lifecycle GHG emissions reduction versus fossil kerosene. This is enough to deliver over 40% of the UK's mandated 2030 eSAF supply. To date, Starling has received £7.4m from the UK government.--Links:CNF site - www.carbonneutralfuels.com CNF LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/carbonneutralfuels

Off Grid Power - the Weird and the Wonderful with Aran Bates, co-Founder & CEO of Hydrologiq
This week, the EAH team sat down with Aran Bates, Founder and CEO of Hydrologiq, to dive into the strategic deployment of hydrogen in the off-grid sector. We explore how Hydrologiq is moving beyond just the hardware, discussing the critical role of software and systems thinking in scaling up clean fuel adoption. Aran provides fascinating insights into distributed decarbonisation and the future of resilient microgrids. The conversation focuses on the synergy between Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and hydrogen, detailing the "hub-and-spoke" model that is revolutionizing how we power remote sites, temporary setups, and events—including a fun look at the hydrogen deployment at Boomtown Fair. Aran explains how their platform, Logiq, is the essential tool for managing multi-technology fleets and simplifying the hydrogen supply chain. It was a truly valuable chat, underscoring that the transition to hydrogen is as much about Logiq's operational efficiency as it is about the fuel itself.About Hydrologiq:Hydrologia makes hydrogen the turnkey, scalable and immediate diesel replacement for off-road machinery - decarbonising a US$327 billion global diesel machinery market that produces 1.3 gigatons of CO2e every year. They do this through Logiq - the platform that handles everything from supply chain integration to on-the-ground operations, making hydrogen an easy to adopt and scale decarbonisation choice.Born out of a passion to reduce the greenhouse gas impact society is having on the planet, they are enabling the hydrogen value chain to change how we store, move and use energy off-grid.About Aran Bates:Aran’s experience sits at the intersection of technical development, business, and strategy gained over eight years of technology and innovation consulting, as well as start-up experience. Prior to Hydrologiq he spent two and a half years evaluating and studying the applicability of hydrogen on energy systems, now through the work being done at Hydrologiq, they are testing and proving that hydrogen is an answer.Previously, Aran founded his own digital start-up, bootstrapping it into an operating business within a year; launched new ventures inside of existing multinational businesses (e.g. designed and lead all aspects of the physical product and manufacturing for Holland and Barret’s Healthbox offering, taking it from pure paper idea to live product in market MVP in three months); and advised many of the world’s largest corporates on innovation, including acting as the direct advisor and coach to the global Head of Innovation at Rolls Royce Aerospace.--🔗 Company Links:Hydrologiq - https://www.hydrologiq.com/--🔗 Links Mentioned in the episode:Boomtown Fair Hydrogen Project: See how hydrogen made its debut at the iconic festival, showcasing real-world off-grid application - https://www.linkedin.com/posts/boomtownfair_boomtown-banggoesnormal-visitboomtown-activity-7369673059982647297-7UIa?utm_source=social_share_video_v2&utm_medium=android_app&rcm=ACoAAAgR9EQBRpLRHd9VpL2HnwaYihOdPVZ7_2s&utm_campaign=copy_link‘Hydrogen, BESS, and Microgrids’ Aran's in-depth article on the "hub-and-spoke" model for off-grid power - https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/revolutionizing-off-grid-power-hydrogen-hub-and-spoke-aran-bates-ykvve?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_android&utm_campaign=share_viaLogiq, discover the platform designed for modern clean fuel and asset management - https://www.hydrologiq.com/
