Meditation and Trauma Recovery with Edit B Kiss

Holistic trauma therapist Edit B. Kiss talks about how meditation can help to release long-lasting blockages so you can live a more fulfilled and joyful life. In the second half, she gives specific recommendations about meditation and leads us on a short grounding chakra meditation. BIO: Edit B Kiss is a holistic trauma therapist and success habit coach. Humanity at an Inflection Point with Christine Barrington

Will we make it to a safer age? Humanity balances between two paths: self-destruction or self-revelation. Our guest, Christine Barrington describes this critical inflection point and argues that dreams awaken us to the realm of purpose and meaning arguing that every one of us has much to contribute to the path of humanity. Christine begins with James Braid then outlines the complicated history of science and consciousness including how they got separated in the first place, culminating with the philosophy of positivism which is the belief nothing exists that cannot be verified. She notes in contrast that most of the giants of quantum theory were also mystics including Planck (mentioning his book Where Science is Going) and also Einstein, Schrödinger, Heisenberg, Bohr, and Pauli. On the thread of consciousness,  she quotes Carl Jung and his work on the tension of the opposites and synchronicity, also Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ken Wilbur, and Joe Dispenza and the birth of neurophysiology and mindfulness. Christine brings it together talking about Thomas Campbell and his book My Big TOE and his “theory of everything,” which argues that consciousness is the basis for everything and that we are here on this planet to learn and evolve that consciousness, one person at a time. She plays a quote of his about how dreaming gives us information about our selves in that how we react in dreams is how we are. As we learn to be more living and present, then our dreams evolve too. Christine ends by sharing information about a conference put on by Campbell’s organization, the Center for the Unification of Science and Consciousness CUSAC.org, and the the symposium they will be hosting in September. BIO: Christine Barrington has worked as a psychotherapist and transformational coach and is a seeker who has invested years searching for answers underlying the challenges of human existence. She asks will we make it to a safer age? From Shame to Self-Love with Bill St. Cyr

We speak with Bill St. Cyr starting with how common shame is and how the mean voices that we carry around make it hard for us to let in the love that’s all around us. Test taking in a dream is often about shame. Bill shares a dream in which he felt a deep sense acceptance when a dear friend tenderly put their forehead up against his. We talk about something called the entropic theory of the brain which draws parallels between the dreaming brain state and the brain on psychedelics and how they both can throw our brains into enough disarray that we come out of them in a new state. We take a call from Christine Barrington who shares a dream where she felt supported, and she speaks about how we all learn best through connection. She also defines a heretic as one who choses. Bill closes by encouraging us to bring tenderness to our life’s journey every step of the way. To learn more and to contact Bill and to learn about his coaching and classes, see his website at StudentsoftheDream.com Books we talked about include Pema Chodron’s Start Where You Are and Lisa Barrett’s How Emotions are Made. BIO: Bill St. Cyr is a devoted student of the dream and of the process of coming into deep consciousness in the face of the trauma and alienation that is so endemic in our culture. Bill has over 10 years experience working with dreamers and teaching practitioners the practice of Embodied Dreamwork. He has presented and facilitated over 75 workshops, retreats and conferences throughout the US, Canada and Europe. Finding Sacredness in the Mundane with Andrusa Lawson

Today we celebrate the 250th official podcast of the Dream Journal by replaying a popular show which just happens to be with my brand designer Andrusa Lawson of Divine by Design. Urban shamanism and setting sacred space. Dreams, like myths, can be regarded as stories that are not true but that say something true. The essence of setting a sacred space is being intentional and finding a common sense of meaning. We also speak about non-verbal communication in dreamwork and traditional indigenous oral storytelling. Also, the power of urban spirits and dreams of city places. After the break, we take several questions from Max including what specific filters Andrusa uses to keep his dreamtime sacred. We end by speaking about Andrusa’s ideas about karma-less action. BIO: Andrusa Lawson, Vice president and creative director of Divine by Design, is a dream worker exploring the process of committing the innate wisdom of dreaming into communal memory, the ability of stories to cross cultural barriers, and the unique medicine that oral traditions represent for people whose voices have been historically silenced. Inner Wisdom Figures with Charles Tack

Do voices in your head guide your waking life? Inner Wisdom Figures and Internal Family Systems. Inner exploration with today’s guest Charles Tack.  Charles describes Internal Family Systems as a way of building relationships with the different voices inside ourselves, many of whom came from the cultural and familial messages that we grew up with. He then describes what he calls Inner Wisdom Figures, which are inner characters who seem to be a few steps of development ahead of where we are in waking life. Charles describes how to engage with both of these kinds of inner voices through what Jung describes as active imagination. Charles also describes how he uses I Ching as part of inner work, and we end with a discussion of how to move toward joy and radiance. BIO: After years of facilitating groups and coaching clients to improve, Charles realized that he was only superficially successful. More importantly, he didn’t enjoy what he advocated for. That began a decades-long inquiry that led to an ever-increasing appreciation for our child-like aspects, greater access to holistic, wisdom influences and more embodied joy.  This show, episode number 249, was recorded during a live broadcast on March 9, 2024 at KSQD.org, community radio of Santa Cruz.
