This week Giles interviews writing and directing team Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck to discuss their impressive career and body of work from the indie scene to working with Marvel.Anna and Ryan first made an entrance with their indie hit Half Nelson, which picked up a best actor nominee for a little known actor named Ryan Gosling. Director André Øvredal on Mortal, Troll Hunter and The Autopsy of Jane Doe & how he makes movies
Today we welcome folklore-horror director André Ovredal to discuss his new indie horror Mortal. Known for his found-footage modern masterpiece Troll Hunter as well as the chilling The Autopsy of Jane Doe, and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark André chats to Giles and Andy about his craft and process from pitch to shoot, including working with other top tier horror directors like Guillermo del Toro.André covers the road to his first feature Future Murder which he wrote in 8 days whilst at film school, how he used this to move to commercials in the US and Norway, before developing the concept for Troll Hunter and eventually pitching it to a producer. We get the insight into how a found-footage faux-documentary approach re-defined the filmmaking rules for André, the success of Troll Hunter before the challenges of finding the next project.
