Today on the show Jayson is talking with Darren McCarty, former forward for the Detroit Red Wings, and current host of the podcast Grind Time with Darren McCarty who he co-hosts with his friend Perry Vellucci. Darren talks about his days with the Red Wings and how he had to fight for his teammates and the entire city of Detroit when their backs were against the wall. He talks about the heated rivalry between Colorado and Detroit through the late 90's and early 2000's. Jayson and Darren talk about how you could have all the talent in the world, but if you don't have the need to win, or succeed, then that talent means nothing. Someone who is less talented but works harder is going to win out every single time in the long run. Today on the show Jayson talks with John LeBlanc about following your gut to make decisions in life. Jayson has built 3 different businesses while following his intuition and has learned to build that skill which he uses every day. Jayson talks about when he grew up, he had to follow his intuition every day, learning the difference between good and bad decisions. Letting go of someone in your business is never an easy decision, but most of the time it's a necessary one. Jayson talks about valuing someone who is willing to learn, and has a good attitude higher than someone with more experience, and the fact that getting rid of the people with bad attitudes is vital to building a successful culture in your company. Powerhome Solar kept their doors open during the Covid-19 pandemic, they also started pushing more batteries, those are a few examples of the decisions that Jayson has had to make by simply following what he thought was right. Sometimes the decision isn't exactly clear, it's up to you to make the tough decisions to build a successful business and life! Today on the show we're talking to Kara Goldin, CEO and Founder of Hint Inc. a flavored water company, and author of Undaunted: Overcoming Doubts and Doubters. Kara takes us through her life story, starting with growing up in Arizona, creating opportunities to make money by making a camp with her friends and charging $5 a day for people to come and hang out. After leaving her position at AOL, Kara took some time off to focus on being a mother. During that time off Kara realized how much soda she was drinking, and wanted to make a healthy change in her diet. She quickly noticed how many unhealthy beverage options there were on the market today, and wanted to make a change. After an investor told Kara that America wouldn't accept her flavored water brand, she used that as motivation to push herself and her brand farther than anyone thought possible. Today on the show we have David Meltzer, the CEO of Sports 1, a sports marketing firm which he co-founded with hall of fame quarterback, Warren Moon. David talks about how when he was a kid, the only problems he had were money problems, and that was something that he wanted to fix. David talks about how he went to law school and became a successful lawyer, but it wasn't exactly what he wanted to be doing, so he quit and started selling "the internet" in 1992. He was on top of the world, creating business in Silicon Valley. Then in 2008 everything came crashing down. David surrounded himself with the wrong people and started losing sight of the values that got him to where he was. David now has a better understanding of what helped him become successful and stay successful, a mix between money and faith. Monty talks about how he started as a lawyer, quickly moved up the ranks in his law firm and became the CEO of his law firm because the partners saw he was a leader. He then had Chipotle as a client, and the CEO of Chipotle saw how well his firm was doing and wondered how Monty had created such a great culture, and brought him on as co-CEO of Chipotle. Monty talks about the 3 reasons why people aren't happy in your company.There are low performers, which is rare, not knowing the standards of your workplace, and most importantly your employees are not feeling empowered. Empowerment can lead to some amazing results, if every one of your employees feels like they are furthering themselves as well as the company, you know you've built a successful culture. People are much more in common than they are different, Monty went out to show that people are connected in a lot of ways. He shot a documentary series called, Connected: A Search for Unity airing on PBS. Today on the show John LeBlanc is back and interviews Jayson about why you need to stop overthinking your problems, and start quickly making decisions, to solve them! Jayson talks about how he hates the phrase "what if" and how it means that you are looking backwards, when you should be trying to fix the problems that are at hand right now. It's important to think of yourself last in business decisions, first think about how this will affect your brand and your team, then about how it will affect you. When making important decisions, Jayson thinks about how it will impact right now, tomorrow and 6 months from now. Thinking any further down the road than that will allow you to start overthinking the problem at hand. Follow the facts, make an informed decision, but ultimately following your gut will help you make quick decisions. Don't try to make the right decisions, take action and move forward from there! As a kid Brian moved from school to school, having to make new friends, learn the environment, and adapt. Brian thinks that had a big impact on becoming an entrepreneur. He had to learn to overcome those obstacles, meet new people, and create new relationships. Brian talks about how he needed to make failures in order to get to where he is today, he mentions a time, early in 1-800-GOT-JUNK's life that he had to fire 11 people at once because they weren't good fits for his image of the company. He doesn't regret any of it because without those mistakes, he wouldn't be where his today, with the lessons he's learned from them.
