Mastermind Parenting Podcast

Our convo this week includes a clip from my Mastermind where I discuss a 1968 study done in a school called the Pygmalion Effect. The Pygmalion effect is the phenomenon whereby others' expectations of a person affect the person's performance. The bottom line is that what we think and say about a child has the ability to greatly impact their future success. So remember, your words have power...when you speak unkindly about your kids, it represents what you’re really thinking or worried about and those thoughts can hinder their performance and their life. Think better thoughts. Say useful words. Find a new narrative. Encourage and support your kids. And if your kids aren’t “doing well”, get curious and figure out why. In this episode, I’m sharing an audio of me coaching a mom in the Mastermind whose 17month old was starting to display aggression towards her. I role play in this clip how to focus on the skill-building rather than the mistake or misbehavior. Remember, what we focus on grows. In this episode, I share some in the trenches Mama tips with my Mastermind moms. The mom that I was coaching was frustrated with the afternoon environment in her home. The boys were overtired and there was a lot of fighting, crying and tension. I walked Mom through a realistic plan, some practical tips and helpful ways to shift her mindset and embrace her reality.  So often it’s more a mindset shift than anything else. It’s about learning to stop “resisting what is” that will allow you to create peaceful afternoons. Little kids are freaking exhausting AND the long days will become a memory sooner than you may realize, especially if you learn how to master your mind. In this episode, you’ll hear me coaching one of my Mastermind Mamas about her almost 3 year old who has suddenly become “destructo” girlie. I use Mastermind Parenting Pillar 2: All Behavior is Communication as the foundation to get curious and problem solve with her and uncover the root to little sister’s sudden troublesome actions (like throwing all the dinner napkins on the ground and knocking down older brother’s Lego creation).  I think you’ll enjoy hearing how we spin the scenario to see it differently to change Mom’s mindset and thoughts.
