MMP152: Understanding Adult Triggers & Emotional Dysregulation

In this episode I told a bunch of true stories to really explore the concept of emotional dysregulation and how it informs “less than awesome” adult behavior. As we continue with the summer of balance series, it’s important to explore adult behavior and whether you and your partner are modeling the behavior you are expecting of your kids. It can be very difficult to look honestly at yourself, check in and get curious about your own patterns. Yes, this adulting thing is hard! Many of us avoid taking an honest look at ourselves AND asking whether we are setting the wrong example for kids.  Join our Free Facebook Group: www.facebook.com/groups/mastermindparenting Thanks for listening! Bonus Episode: Digging Deeper When Your Kid is Bullied at School

In this episode, I discuss how often our strong willed kids show up in ways that are problematic and when the most immediate issues are resolved, sometimes the deeper issues fall through the cracks.  On this episode, you’ll hear from a mom whose son was being bullied at school. I describe how this mom was able to help her son develop a critical “lagging skill” by becoming curious and going beyond the surface situation. When we look deeper,  we can begin to help our kids gain new skills and ultimately feel more balanced in their bodies. When we can get to the root of the problem instead of focusing on only the superficial issue, we can then begin successfully supporting our kids.  Join our Free Facebook Group: www.facebook.com/groups/mastermindparenting Thanks for listening! Bonus Episode: Violence When it’s Time to Shift Gears

In this bonus episode on the podcast, I respond to a mom who’s 6 year old son becomes explosive when it’s time to leave the park or stop playing legos or come to dinner. Transitions can be really hard for kids. And when they are doing something they are enjoying, it often becomes intensive and even violent. I coach this mom on getting to the root of the unbalanced behavior and what to do to support her little guy in learning better self regulation skills to improve this stressful issue for better balance in his body and their relationship.
