Episode 42 is the third in a series of six on the doctrines of grace. Here I speak with Dr. James Renihan about unconditional election. This is a controversial doctrine, but one that is clearly taught in scripture. Pastors must teach this doctrine with care. We hope this episode helps in some way.

This doctrine is typically addressed first when considering the doctrine of salvation, for here the condition of man is established. What does God do for sinners to save them from their sins? We will better understand what he does when we consider his works against the backdrop of our inability and need.

Here we attempt to lay foundations that are crucial for a proper understanding of the doctrine of salvation. I would recommend that you also listen to episode 35 on the covenant of redemption. Important foundations were laid in that episode which help us to better understand the doctrine of salvation.

In episode 39 of Theology In Particular, Dr. Joshua Henson and I talk about the polemical dimension of the Old Testament. "Polemic" means a strong verbal or written attack. Dr. Henson helps us to see how the Old Testament scriptures simultaneously record true history while strongly denouncing the false gods of the nations.

In episode 38 of Theology In Particular, Pastor Tom Hicks helps us to understand and evaluate a view of the Old Covenant law known as Theonomy. This view has grown in popularity in some circles and, in our opinion, has led to some confusion. We hope this episode helps to bring some clarity to this important topic.
