Chaosium is currently working with EDGE to release an English translation of @alexdelaIglesia
‘s ‘La Broma Macabra’ in 2022. As well as being a long-time devoted Call of Cthulhu fan, Álex de la Iglesia is the acclaimed Spanish film director, screenwriter and producer, whose series 30 Monetas (“30 Coins”) recently featured on HBO in the United States.
HPL: Nyarlathotep Rising is a narrative game that will be released on PC and Mac. It follows the adventures of three protagonists in late 1929, just before the Wall Street Crash, as occult forces are at work to bring our planet under the dominion of the cosmic terror of dread Nyarlathotep. The game is intended for those who enjoy the atmosphere and horror of H.P Lovecraft novels, those nostalgic for Steve Jackson’s ‘Fighting Fantasy’ or the ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ books, and for lovers of narrative games that allow you to dive into multiple stories and histories.
It’s on Kickstarter right now, with about $6k of the requested $28k funded. We wish them luck.

Let’s go back to ostensibly the start. I want to talk about Secrets of San Francisco because I’m running a Bookhounds of SF game and I’ve used your book multiple times. When you look back at that book – what is your perspective on its legacy? Either for yourself as author, or in the line of CoC books? Both?
Talk about New Maps of Dreams – where does the interest for Dreamlands come from? It seems like a rarely discussed or written-about sub-genre, but one that seems to be hard to fill successfully. How does this book add to the Dreamlands mythos?
Talk about your involvement with Skin Crawl magazine
Forbidden Futures
Finally, tell us about your new book The Flying None.

Blackstone Publishing has entered into an agreement with the classic horror and pulp magazine to produce 50 books over five years with the Weird Tales Presents brand. The first offering is supposed to be released fall of ‘22. And they plan on a special release in 2023 for the 100 year anniversary of Weird Tales.
By the time this episode drops the latest kickstarter from Free League will be available. Vaesen: Mythic Britain and Ireland is a companion setting book for the weird horror RPG that came out in 2020.

PAX Unplugged is coming back in December to Philadelphia and you will need a mask and full vaccination in order to attend. This is following a trend that other conventions, such as UK Games EXPO & ESSEN Spiel, have put into place for public safety. GenCON & Origins continued with only a mask mandate in place but no proof of vaccination or a negative test.
Chaosium has acquired Dhole’s House this week, the popular online character creation tool for Call of Cthulhu. And it has hired the former owner and site creator, Lee Carnell, as an in-house software developer.

Horror games really made a statement this year with awards and recognition going to Mork Borg, Vaesen, and even the Miskatonic Repository. Congratulations, Allan Carrey, for your silver on Hand of Glory

Additional material includes personal accounts by some of the early creators and contributors to the game and the re-inclusion of the classic scenario ‘The Haunting.” Advance copies sold out at GenCon and it looks like they’ll be arriving at Origins Game Fair as well! The official release date is October 2021.
Bridgett is stoked to be joining the main cast of Ain’t Slayed Nobody’s podcast for Y’all of Cthulhu Season Two. This is a custom Call of Cthulhu 7e campaign in the Down Darker Trails setting. And finally, writer and publisher of Electric Bastionland, Chris McDowall, has teamed up with Free League to reprint and update the original rule set Into the Odd in a new Kickstarter that has already blown through most/all of its stretch goals since it launched earlier this week. From Diesel: what are your thoughts on the evolution of the OSR, from the retroclones to the games we see being produced today. What was it that pulled him into that scene, why does he think it evolved like that, and where does he think it’s going next?
iPwnedMSCS — In your contribution to Knock! Issue 2, how one would use the horror cheap trick “cut off mid-sentence”. Using the example from the article of “The wardrobe is covered in cobwebs. You slowly crack it open and feel the air get cold around you. You smell rotten wood and see…” do you eventually finish the sentence after letting it hang for a couple beats or do you do something else with it?
Also – what’s next for you after this kickstarter?
Where can people get in touch with you?

MUP Ep 233 – The Many Projects of Alison Cybe
This episode, Keepers Dave & Bridgett interview award nominated fantasy and horror author, freelance RPG Writer, and all around rockstar, Alison Cybe!
Campus Crier
The Campus Crier is where we keep all the mythos related news and info for the podcast, this episode was recorded on August 29, 2021.
Keeper Dave is very proud to announce the arrival of Apocthulhu Part 2, Terrible New Worlds. If you remember way back in episode 205 (which was August 2020 in forever-ago times), we interviewed Dean Englehart and Jo Kriel about their massive Apcothulhu project. Well, now the second book has arrived, which includes a scenario by yours truly. Do we want to talk about the editing process and how good editors (like Dean and Jo) can turn a pretty good idea into a great scenario?
In what feels like a Herbert West style reanimation, Chaosium has acquired the entire Cubicle 7 Call of Cthulhu line, including Cthulhu Britannica and World War Cthulhu. This even includes the rarer Cold War materials, that our own Keeper Chad contributed to. The line is highly regarded and is sure to fill out Chaosium’s already growing line of materials – how quickly they’ll get it to shelves is yet to be determined.
Hasbro has unveiled their own rpg system for their newly licensed materials, which include GI Joe, Transformers, and Power Rangers. This rpg line is not part of WotC, and uses its own new Essence20 system as mechanics. As an aging Gen Xer who watched a LOT of GI Joe and Transformers, (and who doesn’t like using 5e for non-fantasy games) I have to say that I am mildly intrigued.
Kickstarter news: The Delta Green reboot of their original materials is well funded and sitting around $350k as of time of recording. Much like Chaosium reprinting their older materials that fetch extreme prices on the secondary market, Arc Dream is republishing their original book and other 90s materials, updated to their new Delta Green system. The Kickstarter ends on Sept 10th, I believe, and so there is still plenty of time to get in on the action.
Friend of the show, fellow Call of Cthulhu and all around great guy Bill Adcock has… a sister, who also is an rpg writer. Nice family! Anyway, she is running a kickstarter based on labor rights in the coal industry called The Price of Coal.
Finally, the most successful RPG kickstarter of all time will be done by the time this episode airs, but whew! The Avatar RPG has crossed $7.5m. Here’s to our industry’s breakthrough.
