Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift ~ Full Audiobook [adventure]
Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift audiobook. Genre: adventureShipwrecked and cast far from home, Lemuel Gulliver - a practical English surgeon and sailor - begins a sequence of astonishing voyages that will test his assumptions about human nature, politics, and pride. He wakes to find himself a giant among the Lilliputians, a nation of miniature people whose petty rivalries and elaborate rules mirror the worst habits of the world he thought he knew. Later, he becomes the small one in a land of towering giants, where everyday life exposes the fragility of his own culture's values. Each new shore brings stranger customs, sharper dangers, and deeper questions, as Gulliver is pulled between curiosity and survival, diplomacy and outrage. Behind the marvels and misadventures lies a biting satire: courts obsessed with power, experts lost in useless projects, and societies that reveal how easily reason can be bent to vanity. As Gulliver struggles to remain loyal to his country and to his own sense of identity, the journeys push him toward uncomfortable self-knowledge. Clever, darkly funny, and endlessly inventive, Gulliver's Travels is both a fantastical adventure and a scathing look at what people choose to call civilization. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 00(00:12:39) Chapter 01(00:37:37) Chapter 02(01:00:05) Chapter 03(01:18:15) Chapter 04(01:30:04) Chapter 05(01:44:23) Chapter 06(02:06:12) Chapter 07(02:23:57) Chapter 08(02:37:59) Chapter 09(03:06:59) Chapter 10(03:20:18) Chapter 11(03:44:03) Chapter 12(03:56:44) Chapter 13(04:20:02) Chapter 14(04:41:48) Chapter 15(04:59:21) Chapter 16(05:31:10) Chapter 17(05:46:03) Chapter 18(06:07:30) Chapter 19(06:21:14) Chapter 20(06:36:16) Chapter 21(06:54:06) Chapter 22(07:08:14) Chapter 23(07:18:25) Chapter 24(07:32:33) Chapter 25(07:41:54) Chapter 26(08:01:38) Chapter 27(08:10:12) Chapter 28(08:27:41) Chapter 29(08:42:47) Chapter 30(08:57:09) Chapter 31(09:10:30) Chapter 32(09:25:59) Chapter 33(09:43:09) Chapter 34(10:02:04) Chapter 35(10:17:16) Chapter 36(10:30:31) Chapter 37(10:48:52) Chapter 38(11:09:17) Chapter 39 Learn more about your ad choices. A Letter Concerning Toleration by John Locke ~ Full Audiobook [philosophy]
A Letter Concerning Toleration by John Locke audiobook. Genre: philosophyLetter Concerning Toleration by John Locke was originally published in 1689. Its initial publication was in Latin, though it was immediately translated into other languages. In this 'letter' addressed to an anonymous 'Honored Sir' (actually Locke's close friend Philip von Limborch, who published it without Locke's knowledge) Locke argues for a new understanding of the relationship between religion and government. One of the founders of Empiricism, Locke develops a philosophy that is contrary to the one expressed by Thomas Hobbes in Leviathan, primarily because it supports toleration for various Christian denominations. Locke's work appeared amidst a fear that Catholicism might be taking over England, and responds to the problem of religion and government by proposing toleration as the answer. Unlike Hobbes, who saw uniformity of religion as the key to a well-functioning civil society, Locke argues that more religious groups actually prevent civil unrest. Locke argues that civil unrest results from confrontations caused by any magistrate's attempt to prevent different religions from being practiced, rather than tolerating their proliferation. Locke's primary goal is to 'distinguish exactly the business of civil government from that of religion.' He makes use of extensive argument from analogy to accomplish his goal, and relies on several key points. The thing that he wants to persuade the reader of is that government is instituted to promote external interests, relating to life, liberty, and the general welfare, while the church exists to promote internal interests, i.e., salvation. The two serve separate functions, and so, must be considered to be separate institutions. Random Reminiscences of Men and Events by John D Rockefeller ~ Full Audiobook [biography]
Random Reminiscences of Men and Events by John D Rockefeller audiobook. Genre: biographyIn Random Reminiscences of Men and Events, John D. Rockefeller looks back on the people, chances, and hard choices that shaped his rise from an ambitious young bookkeeper in Cleveland to one of the defining figures of American industry. Told as a series of reflective sketches rather than a strict chronological autobiography, these recollections introduce the mentors, partners, competitors, and everyday workers who influenced Rockefeller's habits of discipline, thrift, and relentless attention to detail. He revisits the early days of commerce on the Great Lakes, the volatile growth of the oil trade, and the management challenges of building organizations large enough to endure booms, panics, and public scrutiny. Along the way, Rockefeller explains the personal principles he believed were essential to success: orderly work, careful accounting, steady judgment under pressure, and a sense of duty rooted in faith and family life. Balancing candid self-portraiture with observations on the America of his era, the book offers an intimate window into the mind of a controversial titan and the origins of a philanthropic legacy that would outlast his business battles. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 00(00:04:07) Chapter 01(00:37:41) Chapter 02(01:02:25) Chapter 03(01:30:22) Chapter 04(02:17:02) Chapter 05(02:44:07) Chapter 06(03:15:49) Chapter 07 Learn more about your ad choices. Grimm’s Fairy Tales by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm ~ Full Audiobook [folklore]
Grimm’s Fairy Tales by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm audiobook. Genre: folkloreStep into a shadowed world where wishes are granted with a price, forests hide both wonder and hunger, and courage is tested at every turn. Collected by brothers Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, Grimms Fairy Tales gathers enduring folktales that have shaped the modern imagination, from familiar figures like clever peasants, doomed kings, and enchanted children to witches, talking animals, and spirits that bargain in riddles. Across these stories, ordinary people face extraordinary trials: sisters must outwit jealous rivals, youngest sons set off with nothing but hope, and kind hearts discover that small mercies can unlock powerful magic. Yet the Grimm collection does not soften its edges. Justice can be swift, consequences can be severe, and the line between luck and doom is thin. As each tale unfolds, listeners encounter recurring themes of resilience, moral choice, transformation, and the uneasy balance between innocence and experience. By turns eerie, darkly comic, and dazzlingly imaginative, this classic collection invites you to hear the old stories as they were once told: vivid, haunting, and impossible to forget. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:16:41) Chapter 02(00:32:52) Chapter 03(00:41:01) Chapter 04(00:50:28) Chapter 05(00:56:25) Chapter 06(01:00:12) Chapter 07(01:10:06) Chapter 08(01:19:06) Chapter 09(01:29:30) Chapter 10(01:44:52) Chapter 11(01:51:25) Chapter 12(01:59:41) Chapter 13(02:06:54) Chapter 14(02:21:52) Chapter 15(02:34:32) Chapter 16(02:44:29) Chapter 17(02:51:15) Chapter 18(03:13:40) Chapter 19(03:33:13) Chapter 20(03:37:42) Chapter 21(03:46:03) Chapter 22(03:55:59) Chapter 23(04:05:33) Chapter 24(04:21:57) Chapter 25(04:30:20) Chapter 26(04:36:51) Chapter 27(04:38:52) Chapter 28(04:52:35) Chapter 29(05:05:18) Chapter 30(05:15:13) Chapter 31(05:31:24) Chapter 32(05:42:46) Chapter 33(05:51:47) Chapter 34(05:59:53) Chapter 35(06:16:09) Chapter 36(06:26:08) Chapter 37(06:33:18) Chapter 38(06:38:23) Chapter 39(06:43:13) Chapter 40(07:03:32) Chapter 41(07:10:53) Chapter 42(07:18:14) Chapter 43(07:24:27) Chapter 44(07:26:49) Chapter 45(07:37:23) Chapter 46(07:52:25) Chapter 47(07:55:54) Chapter 48(08:07:12) Chapter 49(08:22:41) Chapter 50(08:32:48) Chapter 51(08:49:42) Chapter 52(08:56:48) Chapter 53(09:12:04) Chapter 54(09:17:18) Chapter 55(09:23:39) Chapter 56(09:29:27) Chapter 57(09:43:12) Chapter 58(10:07:54) Chapter 59(10:17:36) Chapter 60(10:37:38) Chapter 61(10:50:20) Chapter 62(11:06:06) Chapter 63 Learn more about your ad choices. History of Julius Caesar by Jacob Abbott ~ Full Audiobook [biography]
History of Julius Caesar by Jacob Abbott audiobook. Genre: biographyJacob Abbott's History of Julius Caesar presents a clear, fast-moving portrait of one of Rome's most influential and controversial leaders. Written to make classical history accessible, the book follows Caesar from his early ambitions in a turbulent republic through the rivalries, alliances, and public battles that shaped his rise. Abbott introduces the key figures around Caesar - political opponents in the Senate, powerful allies, and military rivals - and explains how personal charisma, strategy, and public opinion could decide the fate of a nation. As Caesar's reputation grows, so do the pressures: questions of loyalty and law, fears of tyranny, and the constant threat of betrayal in a world where power changes hands quickly. Along the way, Abbott pauses to clarify Roman institutions, daily life, and the larger forces pushing the Republic toward crisis, helping listeners understand not just what happened, but why it mattered. The result is an engaging introduction to Caesar's life and the dramatic turning points that reshaped Rome forever, told with vivid scenes, moral reflection, and a strong sense of historical consequence. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:26:01) Chapter 02(00:51:03) Chapter 03(01:20:22) Chapter 04(01:47:00) Chapter 05(02:11:47) Chapter 06(02:36:58) Chapter 07(02:55:33) Chapter 08(03:17:55) Chapter 09(03:37:36) Chapter 10(04:00:13) Chapter 11(04:23:05) Chapter 12 Learn more about your ad choices. Alexander the Great by Jacob Abbott ~ Full Audiobook [biography]
Alexander the Great by Jacob Abbott audiobook. Genre: biographyIn this brisk, vivid biography, Jacob Abbott traces the rise of Alexander of Macedon from a talented prince under the shadow of his formidable father, King Philip, to a young commander determined to win a place among history's legends. Guided early by intense study and high expectations, Alexander inherits a restless kingdom, fierce rivalries at home, and a world beyond Greece ruled by powerful empires. As he gathers loyal companions and hard-tested soldiers, he must balance daring ambition with practical leadership: keeping fractious allies in line, sustaining morale on punishing marches, and making choices that test his judgment as much as his courage. Abbott presents famous episodes of strategy, diplomacy, and battlefield brilliance alongside the human pressures of command, showing how a single leader's vision can reshape nations while exacting a personal cost. Clear, fast-moving, and rich in moral reflection, this portrait explores the temptations of power, the weight of legacy, and the thin line between greatness and recklessness as Alexander drives his campaign into the unknown. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:29:25) Chapter 02(00:58:35) Chapter 03(01:28:10) Chapter 04(02:00:10) Chapter 05(02:32:35) Chapter 06(02:59:36) Chapter 07(03:27:08) Chapter 08(03:55:23) Chapter 09(04:26:10) Chapter 10(04:56:05) Chapter 11(05:20:33) Chapter 12 Learn more about your ad choices. Robin Hood by J. Walker McSpadden ~ Full Audiobook [folklore]
Robin Hood by J. Walker McSpadden audiobook. Genre: folkloreJ. Walker McSpadden's Robin Hood retells the legendary English outlaw tale with brisk, storybook energy, following Robin of Locksley as he vanishes into Sherwood Forest and becomes the bold champion the powerful fear and the poor rely on. With the ruthless Sheriff of Nottingham tightening his grip and Prince John's rule rewarding greed and betrayal, Robin gathers a band of loyal companions - the towering Little John, the quick-witted Much, the hearty Friar Tuck, and other skilled archers and fighters who live by their own code. Together they turn the greenwood into a refuge and a battleground, staging daring ambushes, clever disguises, and contest-winning feats of archery to reclaim unjustly taken wealth and to defend travelers caught in the machinery of corruption. As word of Robin's exploits spreads, so does the danger: every victory sharpens the Sheriff's resolve, every rescue raises the price on Robin's head, and every act of mercy tests the outlaw's sense of honor. At its heart, this is a tale of camaraderie, courage, and justice - and of how one man becomes a symbol when the law no longer protects the people. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:26:55) Chapter 02(00:37:32) Chapter 03(00:51:09) Chapter 04(01:05:34) Chapter 05(01:20:04) Chapter 06(01:35:00) Chapter 07(01:50:48) Chapter 08(02:05:26) Chapter 09(02:18:03) Chapter 10(02:29:13) Chapter 11(02:48:44) Chapter 12(03:03:42) Chapter 13(03:31:32) Chapter 14(03:48:20) Chapter 15(04:02:49) Chapter 16(04:20:26) Chapter 17(04:30:23) Chapter 18(04:39:58) Chapter 19(04:52:05) Chapter 20(05:07:55) Chapter 21(05:16:32) Chapter 22(05:34:37) Chapter 23(05:46:49) Chapter 24 Learn more about your ad choices. The Admirable Crichton by J. M. Barrie ~ Full Audiobook [comedy]
The Admirable Crichton by J. M. Barrie audiobook. Genre: comedyJ. M. Barrie's The Admirable Crichton is a sharp, playful tale about status, competence, and what happens when the rules of society stop applying. In a grand London household, the kind but self-satisfied Lord Loam prides himself on progressive ideas, while his daughters and fashionable guests treat the servants as background scenery. The most capable figure in the room is the family butler, Crichton: precise, resourceful, and quietly aware of the gap between real ability and inherited rank. When an unexpected disaster strands Lord Loam's party on a remote tropical island, their titles and drawing-room manners prove useless against hunger, weather, and the daily demands of survival. As the group struggles to build shelter, find food, and maintain hope, Crichton's practical intelligence and steady leadership become impossible to ignore, and the island begins to reorder everyone into new roles. Romantic tensions, wounded pride, and competing visions of authority turn the castaway adventure into a lively social experiment, asking whether class is a natural fact or a fragile performance. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 1(00:48:36) Chapter 2(01:27:53) Chapter 3(02:14:53) Chapter 4 Learn more about your ad choices.
