The Protector by Harold Bindloss ~ Full Audiobook [adventure]

The Protector by Harold Bindloss audiobook. Genre: adventureHarold Bindloss, while born in England, based most of his novels in western Canada, and The Protector is based primarily in and around Vancouver and Victoria. There is often danger involved in the mining and timber industries north of Vancouver, and there is also danger in the trust given to people who own and operate these mines and timber lands. And finding one's way in locating them can be equally as difficult as well. Wallace Vane and his trusted friend Carroll seemed to encounter these dangers in a seemingly endless journey both for business purposes and for adventure in their search for adequate timber land which they had inadvertently heard of.What is the driving force behind Wallace Vane? Did he regret leaving his home country and the people he knew when he left England, therefore had something to prove, but didn't even realize it himself? Was it simply a secret joy that he received whenever he observed the beauty of his adopted country with its mountains, forests, and crystal clear water? Perhaps it was his reasonable success in the lumber industry? Or was it something deeper within him? Something, perhaps, that he didn't even recognize himself? For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:22:20) Chapter 02(00:45:13) Chapter 03(01:01:12) Chapter 04(01:19:32) Chapter 05(01:34:48) Chapter 06(01:54:13) Chapter 07(02:13:11) Chapter 08(02:29:28) Chapter 09(02:42:11) Chapter 10(03:05:48) Chapter 11(03:28:40) Chapter 12(03:42:44) Chapter 13(04:00:17) Chapter 14(04:11:57) Chapter 15(04:26:42) Chapter 16(04:43:00) Chapter 17(04:54:38) Chapter 18(05:11:42) Chapter 19(05:26:49) Chapter 20(05:38:34) Chapter 21(06:00:47) Chapter 22(06:17:36) Chapter 23(06:37:37) Chapter 24(07:00:36) Chapter 25(07:20:38) Chapter 26(07:32:51) Chapter 27(07:59:40) Chapter 28(08:23:12) Chapter 29(08:49:39) Chapter 30(09:08:43) Chapter 31 Learn more about your ad choices. Northwest! by Harold Bindloss ~ Full Audiobook [adventure]

Northwest! by Harold Bindloss audiobook. Genre: adventureJimmy Leyland is a young Englishman with expensive habits and too much confidence in his luck, until one uneasy day in western Canada turns his life inside out. After a reckless hunting trip leaves him unsure whether he has shot a man from the Northwest Mounted Police, Jimmy realizes that uncertainty can be as dangerous as guilt. With officials searching for answers and friends offering conflicting advice, he runs for the one place that might hide him and test him at the same time: the hard, beautiful country of Alberta and British Columbia. Guided and challenged by seasoned men like Stannard and the ever-watchful Deering, and thrown off balance by the steady presence of Margaret Jardine, Jimmy is forced to trade clubroom bravado for grit, judgment, and restraint. The farther he pushes into the back country, the more the wilderness strips away his old assumptions about class, courage, and what it means to be honorable. Part chase story, part survival tale, Northwest! follows a spoiled drifter trying to become someone worth trusting before the past catches up to him.For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:13:33) Chapter 02(00:30:45) Chapter 03(00:48:41) Chapter 04(01:04:40) Chapter 05(01:20:44) Chapter 06(01:36:03) Chapter 07(01:55:42) Chapter 08(02:14:16) Chapter 09(02:30:57) Chapter 10(02:50:08) Chapter 11(03:07:35) Chapter 12(03:23:32) Chapter 13(03:39:49) Chapter 14(03:57:07) Chapter 15(04:13:32) Chapter 16(04:29:44) Chapter 17(04:49:04) Chapter 18(05:05:39) Chapter 19(05:26:24) Chapter 20(05:41:23) Chapter 21(05:59:34) Chapter 22(06:14:58) Chapter 23(06:33:23) Chapter 24(06:50:01) Chapter 25(07:06:42) Chapter 26(07:23:00) Chapter 27(07:40:11) Chapter 28(07:56:53) Chapter 29(08:17:05) Chapter 30(08:30:15) Chapter 31(08:42:59) Chapter 32(08:58:25) Chapter 33 Learn more about your ad choices. The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen ~ Full Audiobook [folklore]

The Little Match Girl by Hans Christian Andersen audiobook. Genre: folkloreOn a bitter New Year's Eve in a snowy city, a poor little girl wanders the streets with a bundle of matches to sell. Barefoot, hungry, and afraid to go home without money, she drifts from doorway to doorway as crowds hurry past, too busy to notice her. To keep her hands from freezing, she dares to strike a match, and in its small, wavering light she sees comforting visions: warmth, food, and the kind of tenderness she rarely receives in the waking world. Each flare of light offers a brief refuge from the cold and a glimpse of what she longs for most, even as the night deepens and her situation grows more desperate. Hans Christian Andersen's 'The Little Match Girl' is a stark, luminous tale about poverty and indifference, the fragile power of imagination, and the human need for mercy. Simple in language but profound in feeling, it invites listeners to look closely at those society overlooks and to consider what a single act of kindness might mean. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:07:40) Chapter 02(00:18:40) Chapter 03(00:22:03) Chapter 04(00:26:56) Chapter 05(00:47:39) Chapter 06(01:00:58) Chapter 07 Learn more about your ad choices. The Emperor’s New Clothes by Hans Christian Andersen ~ Full Audiobook [folklore]

The Emperor’s New Clothes by Hans Christian Andersen audiobook. Genre: folkloreThis is a collection of a few of my personal favorite stories by Hans Christian Andersen that I most loved as a child and still enjoy as an adult. The Emperor's New Clothes was funny from my earliest years because even then I could see that it poked fun at adults and their silly pretensions; The Ugly Duckling I think, was enjoyable because the bullied little one turned out so well and it had a happy ending although I thought even as a child that the protagonist should have gone back and brought those mean barnyard fowl down a peg or two. Little Tiny or Thumbellina is just a sweet story with adventure thrown in and The Brave Little Tin Soldier was and is a tribute to bravery and steadfastness. The last story, There Is No Doubt About It ! was so obviously silly and fun even to a young child and frankly, I just love the way the animals talk in this story. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:11:28) Chapter 02(00:36:14) Chapter 03(01:05:17) Chapter 04(01:17:01) Chapter 05 Learn more about your ad choices. Seeking rest and a return to ordinary human company, Clement takes leave from his operations and goes to Sweetwater Springs, a small resort village built around mineral waters long believed to restore health. There, amid summer visitors, music, gossip, and the quiet rituals of people hoping to be healed, he meets Ellice Ross, a young woman weakened by illness but marked by uncommon courage. The Green World by Hal Clement ~ Full Audiobook [scifi]

The Green World by Hal Clement audiobook. Genre: scifiThe planet was an enigma. Among the thousands of inhabitable planets that had been discovered and visited, Veridis alone seemed to defy the laws of planetary development and evolution. It was extremely young, barely 10 million years had passed since it was completely molten and yet now it was covered with life of all kinds; kinds that should have not had a chance to even begin to develop, much less reach their current stage. To investigate this anomaly among the stars, a team of experienced specialists was sent out to delve further into the mystery and if possible, solve it. Other than the obvious fields of planetology and geology, other specialties were included like paleontology and archaeology. The highly dangerous flora and fauna of the planet do not help at all. So, what is the cause? It lies deeper in the Green Planet than anyone thinks and is much more dangerous than they can ever imagine. The Call of Cthulhu by H. P. Lovecraft ~ Full Audiobook [horror]

The Call of Cthulhu by H. P. Lovecraft audiobook. Genre: horrorIn Providence and beyond, a young man named Francis Wayland Thurston inherits a box of unsettling papers from his late uncle, a professor of languages who had been investigating a strange cult. What begins as a curious family mystery becomes a widening inquiry into scattered accounts: a gruesome police raid in the Louisiana bayous, the ravings of artists haunted by the same impossible dream, and the testimony of sailors who encountered an uncharted island after a catastrophic storm. As Thurston stitches these fragments together, he confronts a chilling possibility - that ancient powers older than humanity are not myths but dormant realities, and that certain symbols and chants serve as keys to their return. With each document he reads, the world he thought he understood grows more fragile, replaced by a vision of cosmic indifference where human reason is a thin shield against the unknown. The Call of Cthulhu is a landmark tale of dread and discovery, blending investigative suspense with a mounting sense of existential terror as one man tries to decide what to believe and what must remain buried. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:20:55) Chapter 02(00:54:26) Chapter 03 Learn more about your ad choices. Herbert West - Re-Animator by H. P. Lovecraft ~ Full Audiobook [horror]

Herbert West - Re-Animator by H. P. Lovecraft audiobook. Genre: horrorIn Herbert West - Re-Animator, H. P. Lovecraft delivers a brisk, grisly tale of scientific ambition unmoored from morality. The story is told by an unnamed medical student who becomes the reluctant confidant and assistant of Herbert West, a brilliant, coldly driven researcher convinced that death is not a final boundary but a technical problem waiting for the right solution. From their early days in medical school at Miskatonic University, West pursues a single obsession: a reanimation serum that can restore life to the dead. Each experiment demands fresher subjects, stricter secrecy, and greater compromises, drawing the narrator deeper into a clandestine world of graveyards, dissecting rooms, and midnight trials. As West pushes beyond accepted medicine into forbidden territory, the results are never simply triumph or failure, but something far more unsettling - forcing both men to confront what remains of a person when the body is compelled to move again. Tense, episodic, and steeped in dread, this classic of weird fiction explores hubris, guilt, and the terrifying cost of treating the human soul as just another variable. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 1(00:15:16) Chapter 2(00:30:05) Chapter 3(00:44:37) Chapter 4(00:58:57) Chapter 5(01:14:08) Chapter 6 Learn more about your ad choices.
