Doctor Dolittle’s Zoo by Hugh Lofting ~ Full Audiobook [fantasy]
Doctor Dolittle’s Zoo by Hugh Lofting audiobook. Genre: fantasyDoctor Dolittle, the man who can speak with the animals, is back home but running short of money to care for all the animals who need his help. He invites animals into his garden and encourages them to build their own societies and come and go as they please. This works very well. He has a mouse and rat town, a dog community, a burrow for badgers, and so forth. This does not make any money and only gets him into trouble with his neighbors. But the stories told by these mice and rats are entertaining and fun. And there is a mystery too, which Kling, the dog detective, helps solve. Father Goriot by Honore de Balzac ~ Full Audiobook [drama]
Father Goriot by Honore de Balzac audiobook. Genre: dramaIn Restoration-era Paris, where titles and money can open any door, young law student Eugene de Rastignac arrives with ambition and a thin purse and takes a room in the shabby Maison Vauquer boardinghouse. There he meets a gallery of strivers and castoffs, including the quiet, ridiculed old lodger known as Father Goriot, who seems to be sinking into poverty for reasons no one understands. As Eugene is drawn into the glittering salons of the Faubourg Saint-Germain through distant family connections, he also encounters the mysterious, sharp-minded Vautrin, whose cynical lessons about power and survival tempt Eugene to trade principles for advancement. Between the boardinghouse's cramped dining room and the city's grand drawing rooms, Eugene watches alliances form and collapse, reputations bought and sold, and affection tested by social ambition. At the heart of it all lies Goriot's all-consuming love for his daughters, a devotion that exposes the costs of status, the cruelty of gossip, and the hunger that drives people to betray one another. Balzac's classic unspools as a portrait of Paris itself: seductive, pitiless, and impossible to resist. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:43:17) Chapter 02(01:16:11) Chapter 03(01:34:02) Chapter 04(01:58:59) Chapter 05(02:10:06) Chapter 06(02:39:39) Chapter 07(03:28:37) Chapter 08(03:55:01) Chapter 09(04:44:06) Chapter 10(05:30:37) Chapter 11(06:16:04) Chapter 12(06:59:34) Chapter 13(07:41:06) Chapter 14(08:22:48) Chapter 15(08:59:19) Chapter 16(09:41:44) Chapter 17(10:25:26) Chapter 18(10:56:11) Chapter 19 Learn more about your ad choices. Cousin Betty by Honore de Balzac ~ Full Audiobook [drama]
Cousin Betty by Honore de Balzac audiobook. Genre: dramaCousin Betty (La Cousine Bette), published in serial format in 1846, was one of the last and greatest of Balzac's works. It was part of his long novel collection titled La Comédie Humaine. Set in mid-19th-century France, it tells the story of a woman who resents her position as a 'poor relation.' As we follow her schemes to bring ruin upon the more privileged members of her family, we see a society in transition. The stability and idealism of the old order give way to a new bourgeois world in which virtue is strangled in the struggle for power and money. In this novel, Balzac searchingly probes the psychology and motivations of his characters: his work influenced the development of literary realism, as practised by writers such as Dickens, Dostoyevsky, Flaubert, Proust, and Henry James. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:09:53) Chapter 02(00:35:46) Chapter 03(01:03:26) Chapter 04(01:30:36) Chapter 05(01:56:41) Chapter 06(02:25:08) Chapter 07(02:49:13) Chapter 08(03:16:51) Chapter 09(03:38:52) Chapter 10(04:00:58) Chapter 11(04:19:01) Chapter 12(04:41:32) Chapter 13(05:07:55) Chapter 14(05:35:41) Chapter 15(06:00:38) Chapter 16(06:17:48) Chapter 17(06:39:05) Chapter 18(06:59:35) Chapter 19(07:25:30) Chapter 20(07:50:12) Chapter 21(08:23:58) Chapter 22(08:55:10) Chapter 23(09:20:39) Chapter 24(09:47:52) Chapter 25(10:15:00) Chapter 26(10:34:14) Chapter 27(11:03:16) Chapter 28(11:35:11) Chapter 29(12:10:00) Chapter 30(12:39:16) Chapter 31(13:19:35) Chapter 32(13:52:58) Chapter 33(14:37:01) Chapter 34(15:05:23) Chapter 35(15:29:53) Chapter 36(16:00:32) Chapter 37(16:28:46) Chapter 38 Learn more about your ad choices. Adventures of Bindle by Herbert Jenkins ~ Full Audiobook [comedy]
Adventures of Bindle by Herbert Jenkins audiobook. Genre: comedyIn early 20th-century London, Joseph Bindle is a mild-mannered, endlessly helpful little man whose greatest talent is turning everyday errands into unexpected escapades. A working-class clerk with a gift for friendly chatter and an instinct to do the 'right thing' (even when no one asked), Bindle drifts through streets, shops, pubs, and parlors with the cheerful certainty that everything will work out - and the stubborn determination to make it so. At home, his capable wife, Mrs. Bindle, tries to keep order and dignity intact while her husband collects odd jobs, acquaintances, and misunderstandings like souvenirs. When a series of small obligations, favors, and chance encounters pulls Bindle into other people's private troubles, he finds himself juggling loyalty, reputation, and the unwritten rules of his neighborhood. Warmly observant and sharply funny, Adventures of Bindle follows one ordinary man as he navigates social class, respectability, and community ties, proving that heroism can look a lot like persistence, kindness, and a well-timed cup of tea - even when chaos is never far behind. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:27:59) Chapter 02(01:01:56) Chapter 03(01:17:01) Chapter 04(01:38:34) Chapter 05(02:01:18) Chapter 06(02:19:24) Chapter 07(02:43:33) Chapter 08(03:19:41) Chapter 09(03:43:21) Chapter 10(04:09:05) Chapter 11(04:23:13) Chapter 12(04:52:26) Chapter 13(05:09:02) Chapter 14(05:25:09) Chapter 15(05:53:35) Chapter 16 Learn more about your ad choices. The Snow-Burner by Henry Oyen audiobook. Genre: folkloreThe Snow-Burner is what the Native Americans called Reivers, and it was a rough and tumble life in the land where Reivers chose to live up to his name. The name was attributed to Reivers upon his proof after arriving in the north country because of his ability to defeat all perceived enemies in whatever means was necessary; whether by brute force and tough action, or by sheer cunning which he had gained living in the city in his earlier days. When assigned to oversee a group of foreigners in a work camp, he treated them with utter cruelty. When in search of an unknown source of gold, he found it necessary to combine his cunning with his forceful ways, proving his worthiness of the title given him.For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:15:09) Chapter 02(00:25:42) Chapter 03(00:46:47) Chapter 04(01:03:46) Chapter 05(01:13:41) Chapter 06(01:27:27) Chapter 07(01:50:46) Chapter 08(02:00:41) Chapter 09(02:16:52) Chapter 10(02:22:22) Chapter 11(03:00:16) Chapter 12(03:13:26) Chapter 13(03:26:04) Chapter 14(03:45:20) Chapter 15(04:20:26) Chapter 16(04:38:09) Chapter 17(04:50:27) Chapter 18(05:00:12) Chapter 19(05:26:12) Chapter 20(05:32:42) Chapter 21(05:48:23) Chapter 22(06:06:19) Chapter 23(06:28:56) Chapter 24(06:47:58) Chapter 25(07:07:33) Chapter 26(07:21:03) Chapter 27(07:41:14) Chapter 28(07:49:18) Chapter 29(07:59:31) Chapter 30(08:05:36) Chapter 31(08:13:48) Chapter 32(08:25:08) Chapter 33(08:35:13) Chapter 34(08:45:09) Chapter 35(08:53:35) Chapter 36(09:02:49) Chapter 37(09:17:52) Chapter 38(09:30:21) Chapter 39(09:51:17) Chapter 40(10:07:30) Chapter 41(10:14:50) Chapter 42(10:22:51) Chapter 43(10:36:47) Chapter 44(10:44:52) Chapter 45(10:59:15) Chapter 46(11:08:29) Chapter 47 Learn more about your ad choices. On the Duty of Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau ~ Full Audiobook [philosophy]
On the Duty of Civil Disobedience by Henry David Thoreau audiobook. Genre: philosophyWritten in 1849 after Henry David Thoreau's brief imprisonment for refusing to pay a poll tax, On the Duty of Civil Disobedience is a sharp, compact manifesto on what a person owes to conscience when the law supports injustice. Thoreau challenges the comforting belief that obeying the state is automatically virtuous, arguing that citizens become complicit when government wages an unjust war or upholds human bondage. Moving from personal experience to public principle, he asks whether a moral individual should wait for majorities, elections, or slow reforms, or instead withdraw cooperation from wrongdoing right now. With brisk logic and vivid conviction, he explores the tension between practical citizenship and ethical integrity: how much power a government should have, what it means to be free, and what sacrifice may be required to live honestly. This essay is both a call to inner responsibility and a blueprint for nonviolent resistance, offering ideas that later inspired movements for social change while remaining fiercely individual and urgently contemporary. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:34:16) Chapter 02 Learn more about your ad choices. A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen ~ Full Audiobook [drama]
A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen audiobook. Genre: dramaIn A Doll's House, Henrik Ibsen draws listeners into the warm, carefully arranged home of Nora Helmer, a lively young wife devoted to her husband, Torvald, and proud of the comfortable life they are building. But beneath the cheerful routines and pet names, Nora carries a private burden: years earlier, she made a risky choice to protect her family, and the consequences of that decision return just as Torvald begins a new position at the bank. When the desperate clerk Nils Krogstad threatens to expose Nora's secret unless she intervenes on his behalf, her domestic world turns into a pressure cooker of fear, persuasion, and moral compromise. As old friends reappear, including the steady Kristine Linde and the ailing Dr. Rank, Nora is forced to examine the true foundations of her marriage and the roles society has written for her. With sharp dialogue and mounting tension, Ibsen explores love and power, appearances and reality, and what it costs to be seen as a person rather than a possession. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(01:15:32) Chapter 02(02:16:00) Chapter 03 Learn more about your ad choices.
