Revelations of Divine Love by Julian of Norwich ~ Full Audiobook [religion]

Revelations of Divine Love by Julian of Norwich audiobook. Genre: religionJulian of Norwich (c. November 8, 1342 – c. 1416) is considered to be one of the greatest English mystics. Little is known of her life aside from her writings. Even her name is uncertain, the name 'Julian' coming from the Church of St Julian in Norwich, where she occupied a cell adjoining the church as an anchoress. At the age of thirty, suffering from a severe illness and believing she was on her deathbed, Julian had a series of intense visions. (They ended by the time she overcame her illness on May 13, 1373.) These visions would twenty years later be the source of her major work, called Sixteen Revelations of Divine Love (circa 1393). This is believed to be the first book written by a woman in the English language. Julian became well known throughout England as a spiritual authority. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:05:27) Chapter 02(00:09:30) Chapter 03(00:14:33) Chapter 04(00:18:28) Chapter 05(00:23:08) Chapter 06(00:29:22) Chapter 07(00:35:40) Chapter 08(00:39:59) Chapter 09(00:43:37) Chapter 10(00:52:57) Chapter 11(00:58:56) Chapter 12(01:02:31) Chapter 13(01:07:23) Chapter 14(01:11:11) Chapter 15(01:14:50) Chapter 16(01:18:20) Chapter 17(01:24:43) Chapter 18(01:28:52) Chapter 19(01:33:07) Chapter 20(01:36:40) Chapter 21(01:40:26) Chapter 22(01:45:57) Chapter 23(01:51:00) Chapter 24(01:54:07) Chapter 25(01:58:23) Chapter 26(02:00:31) Chapter 27(02:04:58) Chapter 28(02:08:46) Chapter 29(02:10:45) Chapter 30(02:13:40) Chapter 31(02:19:23) Chapter 32(02:25:27) Chapter 33(02:29:03) Chapter 34(02:32:02) Chapter 35(02:37:00) Chapter 36(02:43:55) Chapter 37(02:46:54) Chapter 38(02:50:35) Chapter 39(02:55:27) Chapter 40(03:01:02) Chapter 41(03:07:50) Chapter 42(03:14:44) Chapter 43(03:20:59) Chapter 44(03:23:47) Chapter 45(03:28:28) Chapter 46(03:33:58) Chapter 47(03:38:59) Chapter 48(03:44:29) Chapter 49(03:50:28) Chapter 50(03:54:37) Chapter 51(04:25:45) Chapter 52(04:35:25) Chapter 53(04:42:15) Chapter 54(04:46:20) Chapter 55(04:52:21) Chapter 56(04:58:08) Chapter 57(05:04:14) Chapter 58(05:11:33) Chapter 59(05:16:55) Chapter 60(05:23:48) Chapter 61(05:31:20) Chapter 62(05:35:09) Chapter 63(05:40:46) Chapter 64(05:47:16) Chapter 65(05:52:06) Chapter 66(05:58:32) Chapter 67(06:02:50) Chapter 68(06:06:23) Chapter 69(06:09:26) Chapter 70(06:13:55) Chapter 71(06:16:51) Chapter 72(06:23:03) Chapter 73(06:27:50) Chapter 74(06:33:36) Chapter 75(06:38:36) Chapter 76(06:43:13) Chapter 77(06:49:32) Chapter 78(06:54:19) Chapter 79(06:58:50) Chapter 80(07:03:34) Chapter 81(07:06:45) Chapter 82(07:11:07) Chapter 83(07:14:00) Chapter 84(07:15:58) Chapter 85(07:18:10) Chapter 86 Learn more about your ad choices. An Antarctic Mystery by Jules Verne ~ Full Audiobook [adventure]

An Antarctic Mystery by Jules Verne audiobook. Genre: adventureWhen a battered bottle and a scrap of writing surface off the stormy seas of the Southern Ocean, the message hints at a vanished expedition and a man still alive beyond the limits of the known world. Determined to learn the truth, a small band of sailors and explorers sets out aboard a capable vessel, pushing south into freezing fogs, crushing pack ice, and waters where charts are guesswork and every day tests seamanship and nerve. As the crew threads through treacherous channels and endures months of cold, hunger, and isolation, they must also contend with clashing temperaments and the haunting uncertainty of what they will find at the edge of the continent. Jules Verne blends meticulous nautical detail with escalating suspense as the voyage becomes both a rescue mission and a confrontation with nature at its most indifferent. Part polar quest, part scientific romance, An Antarctic Mystery follows the cost of obsession, the pull of duty, and the human need to explain the unexplained, as the expedition closes in on a secret hidden among the ice.For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 1(00:13:28) Chapter 2(00:28:26) Chapter 3(00:44:43) Chapter 4(01:07:07) Chapter 5(01:43:25) Chapter 6(01:56:25) Chapter 7(02:11:35) Chapter 8(02:22:23) Chapter 9(02:40:00) Chapter 10(02:52:17) Chapter 11(03:08:09) Chapter 12(03:23:45) Chapter 13(03:37:47) Chapter 14(03:45:25) Chapter 15(03:55:59) Chapter 16(04:12:39) Chapter 17(04:31:14) Chapter 18(04:50:03) Chapter 19(05:05:54) Chapter 20(05:17:07) Chapter 21(05:34:18) Chapter 22(05:56:17) Chapter 23(06:13:58) Chapter 24(06:39:28) Chapter 25(06:58:01) Chapter 26(07:10:44) Chapter 27(07:26:55) Chapter 28(07:40:42) Chapter 29(07:57:11) Chapter 30(08:20:36) Chapter 31 Learn more about your ad choices. Trees and Other Poems by Joyce Kilmer audiobook. Genre: poetry'I think that I shall never see, a poem as lovely as a tree; A tree whose hungry mouth is presd against the sweet earth's flowing breast ...'.Almost all of us, including myself of course, have heard and enjoyed those famous words which begin Kilmer's poem, Trees. There is even a National Forest in the United States named in honor of this poem. Here is a recording of the entire book of poems in which it was first published in 1914. Joyce Kilmer was an American writer and poet mainly remembered for this short poem but he was a prolific poet whose works celebrated the common beauty of the natural world as well as his Roman Catholic religious faith, Kilmer was also a journalist, literary critic, lecturer, and editor. While most of his works are largely unknown, a select few of his poems remain popular and are published frequently in anthologies. At the time of his deployment to Europe during World War I (1914–1918), Kilmer was considered the leading American Roman Catholic poet and lecturer of his generation, whom critics often compared to British contemporaries G. K. Chesterton and Hilaire Belloc . He enlisted in the New York National Guard and was deployed to France with the 69th Infantry Regiment (the famous 'Fighting 69th') in 1917. He was killed by a sniper's bullet at the Second Battle of the Marne in 1918 at the age of 31. The Black Star by Johnston McCulley ~ Full Audiobook [mystery]

The Black Star by Johnston McCulley audiobook. Genre: mysteryThe Black Star was a master criminal who took great care to never be identifiable, always wore a mask so nobody knew what he looked like, rarely spoke to keep his voice from being recognized, and the only mark left at the scenes of the crimes which he and his gang committed were small black stars which were tacked as a sign of their presence, and an occasional sarcastic note to signify his presence and responsibility. Even those who worked for him knew nothing of him, all of which were making his crimes virtually unsolvable. The police were at a complete loss as to his identity and at a method of stopping his criminal activities. He seemed to have the perfect strategic setup and all advantages were in his favor. He even somehow knew where the wealthy kept their jewels and money, and knew when they would remove valuable items from their safes and deposit boxes. Thus Roger Verbeck decided to take on the case of the Black Star using his own methodology. The Black Star will keep you guessing from beginning to end, just as he kept the police and Verbeck guessing.Johnston McCulley was a prolific writer in the pulp fiction vein, and his Zorro series would become immensely popular. However, prior to Zorro, the Black Star was among his first repeating characters which kept readers of the day in continual suspense until his next appearance. McCulley also wrote mysteries and detective stories using various pseudonyms, including Harrison Strong. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:19:15) Chapter 02(00:30:03) Chapter 03(00:52:09) Chapter 04(01:07:57) Chapter 05(01:18:34) Chapter 06(01:29:45) Chapter 07(01:40:39) Chapter 08(01:53:53) Chapter 09(02:13:19) Chapter 10(02:24:27) Chapter 11(02:37:06) Chapter 12(02:52:13) Chapter 13(03:03:36) Chapter 14(03:08:41) Chapter 15(03:23:21) Chapter 16(03:40:42) Chapter 17(03:52:47) Chapter 18(04:11:02) Chapter 19(04:31:49) Chapter 20(04:48:54) Chapter 21(05:04:34) Chapter 22(05:14:29) Chapter 23(05:22:29) Chapter 24(05:36:00) Chapter 25(05:43:23) Chapter 26(06:00:55) Chapter 27(06:19:39) Chapter 28(06:28:08) Chapter 29(06:39:54) Chapter 30(06:53:04) Chapter 31(07:04:43) Chapter 32(07:17:08) Chapter 33(07:31:32) Chapter 34(07:43:58) Chapter 35(07:53:53) Chapter 36 Learn more about your ad choices. Islands of Space by John W. Campbell ~ Full Audiobook [scifi]

Islands of Space by John W. Campbell audiobook. Genre: scifiAs Earth's faster-than-light spaceship hung in the void between galaxies, Arcot, Wade, Morey and Fuller could see below them, like a vast shining horizon, the mass of stars that formed their own island universe. Morey worked a moment with his slide rule, then said, 'We made good time! Twenty-nine light years in ten seconds! Yet you had it on at only half power....' Arcot pushed the control lever all the way to full power. The ship filled with the strain of flowing energy, and sparks snapped in the air of the control room as they raced at an inconceivable speed through the darkness of intergalactic space. But suddenly, far off to their left and far to their right, they saw two shining ships paralleling their course! They held grimly to the course of the Earth ship, bracketing it like an official guard. The Earth scientists stared at them in wonder. The Story of My Boyhood and Youth by John Muir ~ Full Audiobook [biography]

The Story of My Boyhood and Youth by John Muir audiobook. Genre: biography'The only fire for the whole house was the kitchen stove, with a fire box about eighteen inches long and eight inches wide and deep,- scant space for three or four small sticks, around which in hard zero weather all the family of ten shivered, and beneath which in the morning we found our socks and coarse, soggy boots frozen solid.' Thus, with perceptive eye for detail, the American naturalist, John Muir, describes life on a pioneer Wisconsin farm in the 1850's. Muir was only eleven years old when his father uprooted the family from a relatively comfortable life in Dunbar, Scotland, to settle in the backwoods of North America. The elder Muir was a religious fundamentalist. What his father taught, John Muir writes, was 'grim self denial, in season and out of season, to mortify the flesh, keep our bodies in subjection to Bible laws, and mercilessly punish ourselves for every fault, imagined or committed.' Muir's father believed that the Bible was 'the only book human beings could possibly require,' while John secretly read every volume of poetry and literature he could get his hands on. With no formal schooling after leaving Scotland, John also learned from nature--keenly observing details of the seasons, the life of the farm oxen, and wild animals and birds. John also became an amateur inventor, eking out time from farm chores by getting up at 1 a.m. to whittle intricate wooden clocks by candlelight in the unheated farm house basement.Muir finally made a break for freedom--his decision was to go to Madison, Wisconsin, and enter his clocks in the State Fair, with the hope that somebody might see them and offer him a job in a machine shop! All the baggage he carried the day he left home was a package made up of 'two clocks and a small thermometer made of a piece of old washboard, all three tied together with no covering or case of any sort, the whole looking like one very complicated machine.' His father's goodbye was to admonish John about the 'wicked world' and to warn him sternly that if he should find himself in need of money, none would be forthcoming. John would have to depend on himself. How John Muir made his way from that Wisconsin farm to become the great American naturalist, spokesman for Yosemite and the California redwoods, is the stuff of legend: which makes Muir's autobiographical account of his early boyhood a fascinating readFor ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:56:43) Chapter 02(01:40:14) Chapter 03(02:31:41) Chapter 04(03:08:10) Chapter 05(03:41:31) Chapter 06(04:29:56) Chapter 07(04:56:18) Chapter 08 Learn more about your ad choices. The Tar Baby - And Other Rhymes of Uncle Remus by Joel Chandler Harris ~ Full Audiobook [folklore]

The Tar Baby - And Other Rhymes of Uncle Remus by Joel Chandler Harris audiobook. Genre: folkloreIn The Tar Baby - And Other Rhymes of Uncle Remus, Joel Chandler Harris gathers some of the most memorable Uncle Remus selections into a compact, lively listening experience. Set within the familiar frame of a young boy visiting the elderly storyteller Uncle Remus, the book turns quickly to the animal world of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox, Brer Bear, and their neighbors, where every friendly chat can become a contest of wits. The centerpiece is the famous Tar Baby episode, a comic trap that sparks a fast-moving struggle between cunning and force, followed by additional rhymes and tales that echo the cadences of oral storytelling. As Brer Rabbit schemes, escapes, and occasionally overreaches, listeners encounter a world where the small survive by thinking faster than the strong. Beneath the humor and rhythmic language are themes of resilience, deception, and the complicated ways stories pass between generations and cultures. This collection highlights Harris's enduring, controversial place in American letters, preserving folktale patterns and character types that have traveled far beyond the cabin porch where Uncle Remus first speaks. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:12:11) Chapter 02(00:15:48) Chapter 03(00:20:06) Chapter 04(00:22:41) Chapter 05(00:28:14) Chapter 06(00:33:03) Chapter 07(00:38:21) Chapter 08(00:43:06) Chapter 09(00:47:48) Chapter 10(00:52:28) Chapter 11(00:58:20) Chapter 12(01:00:25) Chapter 13(01:05:51) Chapter 14(01:08:56) Chapter 15(01:11:40) Chapter 16(01:13:49) Chapter 17(01:15:54) Chapter 18(01:20:56) Chapter 19(01:23:17) Chapter 20(01:25:27) Chapter 21(01:27:19) Chapter 22(01:29:53) Chapter 23(01:31:22) Chapter 24(01:32:40) Chapter 25(01:34:31) Chapter 26 Learn more about your ad choices.
