War-Lords of the Moon by Linton Davies ~ Full Audiobook [scifi]
War-Lords of the Moon by Linton Davies audiobook. Genre: scifiOn a routine Earth-Moon run, Flight-Commander Bruce Ross asks his navigator, Harrell Moore, a simple question about their star readings and gets a look of pure horror in return. Something is wrong in the heavens, and the answer points straight to the Moon. Summoned into a secretive lunar underworld of provinces, courts, and armed patrols, Ross finds a society in upheaval: a king dead, factions mobilizing, and whispers of a new war that could spill from the Moon to Earth itself. At the center of the chaos stands Lord Horta, a calculating visionary whose faith in omens masks a ruthless plan, and whose experiments promise weapons no fleet is prepared to face. Caught between rival leaders and uneasy allies, including the enigmatic Princess Illeria and the formidable Queen Boada, Ross must navigate lunar politics as carefully as vacuum and gravity. With rocket ships on alert, ray weapons flaring, and loyalty shifting by the hour, the mission becomes a race to expose a hidden arsenal and stop an interplanetary conflict before it ignites. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:41:46) Chapter 02 Learn more about your ad choices. As rumors multiply, several women become entangled in the case, each linked to Fullerton and Lawrence in ways that complicate every simple theory. Alice’s Adventures Underground by Lewis Carroll ~ Full Audiobook [fantasy]
Alice’s Adventures Underground by Lewis Carroll audiobook. Genre: fantasyThis is the handwritten book that Carroll wrote for private use before being urged to develop it later into Alice in Wonderland. It was generously illustrated by Carrol and meant to entertain his family and friends. When a sick child in a hospital enjoyed it so much, the mother wrote him saying it had distracted her for a bit from her pain and led eventually to Carroll expanding the story. The Reverend Charles Lutwidge Dodgson and the Reverend Robinson Duckworth rowed in a boat, on 4 July 1862, up the Isis with the three young daughters of Henry Liddell, (the Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University and Dean of Christ Church) : Lorina Charlotte Liddell (aged 13, born 1849); Alice Pleasance Liddell (aged 10, born 1852); Edith Mary Liddell (aged 8, born 1853). The journey began at Folly Bridge near Oxford and ended five miles away in the village of Godstow. During the trip the Reverend Dodgson told the girls a story that featured a bored little girl named Alice who goes looking for an adventure. The girls loved it, and Alice Liddell asked Dodgson to write it down for her. He began writing the manuscript of the story the next day, although that earliest version no longer exists. The girls and Dodgson took another boat trip a month later when he elaborated the plot to the story of Alice, and in November he began working on the manuscript in earnest. To add the finishing touches he researched natural history for the animals presented in the book, and then had the book examined by other children—particularly the MacDonald children. He added his own illustrations but approached John Tenniel to illustrate the book for publication, telling him that the story had been well liked by children. On 26 November 1864 he gave Alice the handwritten manuscript of Alice's Adventures Under Ground, with illustrations by Dodgson himself, dedicating it as 'A Christmas Gift to a Dear Child in Memory of a Summer's Day'. Some, including Martin Gardner, speculate there was an earlier version that was destroyed later by Dodgson when he printed a more elaborate copy by hand. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 1(00:24:22) Chapter 2(00:43:55) Chapter 3(00:59:38) Chapter 4 Learn more about your ad choices. But when these human colonies are threatened and even viciously attacked by really alien civilizations, earth does nothing to help them. Let em Breathe Space by Lester del Rey ~ Full Audiobook [scifi]
Let em Breathe Space by Lester del Rey audiobook. Genre: scifiOn the way to Saturn, the space freighter Wahoo is packed far beyond anything it was built to carry. Dr. Pietro's expedition has crammed nineteen people into a ship designed for a handful, and five months of recycled air, bad food, and constant proximity have turned ordinary irritations into open hostility. Narrated by Paul Tremaine, the journey quickly becomes more than a test of engineering and endurance when small mishaps start to look like sabotage. A poisoned atmosphere and failing hydroponics threaten the crew's most basic lifelines, and a sudden death makes it clear that the danger is not only mechanical. Trapped in a sealed world where every breath is accounted for, Tremaine must cut through rivalries, paranoia, and the crew's fraying nerves to figure out who is turning the mission into a nightmare. Let 'Em Breathe Space! blends classic space adventure with a tightly wound, closed-room mystery, asking how quickly civility collapses when survival depends on the people you can no longer trust. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:23:16) Chapter 02(00:48:48) Chapter 03(01:16:02) Chapter 04(01:41:25) Chapter 05 Learn more about your ad choices. What I Believe by Leo Tolstoy ~ Full Audiobook [religion]
What I Believe by Leo Tolstoy audiobook. Genre: religion'The inner working of my soul, which I wish to speak of here, was not the result of a methodical investigation of doctrinal theology, or of the actual texts of the gospel; it was a sudden removal of all that hid the true meaning of the Christian doctrine – a momentary flash of light, which made everything clear to me. It was something like that which might happen to a man who, after vainly attempting, by a false plan, to build up a statue out of a confused heap of small pieces of marble, suddenly guesses at the figure they are intended to form by the shape of the largest piece; and then, on beginning to set up the statue, finds his guess confirmed by the harmonious joining in of the various pieces. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 00(00:07:21) Chapter 01(00:26:42) Chapter 02(00:40:59) Chapter 03(01:15:13) Chapter 04(01:38:26) Chapter 05(02:16:46) Chapter 06(03:03:55) Chapter 07(03:39:32) Chapter 08(04:18:01) Chapter 09(05:12:04) Chapter 10(05:39:07) Chapter 11(06:37:11) Chapter 12(07:30:22) Chapter 13 Learn more about your ad choices. Sevastopol by Leo Tolstoy ~ Full Audiobook [history]
Sevastopol by Leo Tolstoy audiobook. Genre: historySevastopol Sketches are three short stories written by Leo Tolstoy and published in 1855 to record his experiences during the Siege of Sevastopol (1854–1855) in the Crimean War (1853-1856). The name originates from Sevastopol, a city in Crimea. The book has also been released under the anglicized title The Sebastopol Sketches and is sometimes titled Sevastopol Stories. These brief 'sketches' formed the basis of many of the episodes in Tolstoy's magnum opus, War and Peace.Sevastopol in December: In Sevastopol in December, Tolstoy uses second person narrative (with the pronoun 'you') in an introductory tour of life in Sevastopol. The detailed tour is arguably similar to one Tolstoy may have been given upon arrival in Sevastopol in November, 1854…. Tolstoy also uses Sevastopol in December to introduce the reader to the settings, mannerisms, and background he uses in Sevastopol in May and Sevastopol in August. For example, when referring to the enemy, either the British or the French, but only the French are featured in the Sketches; they are referred to as ' 'him', as both soldiers and sailors say'.Sevastopol in May In Sevastopol in May, Tolstoy examines the senselessness and vanity of war. The story examines many aspects of the psychology of war, heroism, and the misleading presence of humanism in truces (misleading because countries continuously go to war with one another, despite past truces). Tolstoy concludes by declaring that the only hero of his story is truth. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:40:55) Chapter 02(00:49:40) Chapter 03(01:07:07) Chapter 04(01:21:14) Chapter 05(01:29:12) Chapter 06(01:45:11) Chapter 07(01:58:31) Chapter 08(02:07:01) Chapter 09(02:21:44) Chapter 10(02:33:17) Chapter 11(02:44:07) Chapter 12(02:54:22) Chapter 13(03:08:45) Chapter 14(03:21:59) Chapter 15(03:33:48) Chapter 16(03:43:39) Chapter 17(03:53:22) Chapter 18(04:05:34) Chapter 19(04:18:54) Chapter 20(04:32:17) Chapter 21(04:42:43) Chapter 22 Learn more about your ad choices. My Confession by Leo Tolstoy ~ Full Audiobook [philosophy]
My Confession by Leo Tolstoy audiobook. Genre: philosophy'My Confession' is a brief autobiographical story of Leo Tolstoy's struggle with a mid-life existential crisis of melancholia. It describes his search for answers to the profound questions 'What will come of my life?' and 'What is the meaning of life?', without answers to which life, for him, had become 'impossible.' Tolstoy reflects on the arc of his philosophical life until then: his childhood abandonment of his Russian orthodox faith; his mastery of strength, will, power, and reason; and how, after he had achieved tremendous financial success and social status, life to him seemed meaningless. After despairing of his attempts to find answers in science, philosophy, eastern wisdom, and his fellow men of letters, he describes his turn to the wisdom of the common people and his attempts to reconcile their instinctive faith with the dictates of his reason. The main body of the text ends with the author reaching a compromise: faith, he realizes, is a necessity, but it must be constrained by reason. However, an epilogue that describes a dream he had some time after completing the body of the text suggests that he has undergone a radical personal and spiritual transformation. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:09:28) Chapter 02(00:19:17) Chapter 03(00:29:52) Chapter 04(00:41:04) Chapter 05(00:54:49) Chapter 06(01:11:46) Chapter 07(01:23:59) Chapter 08(01:30:33) Chapter 09(01:42:12) Chapter 10(01:50:51) Chapter 11(01:57:32) Chapter 12(02:08:15) Chapter 13(02:16:43) Chapter 14(02:23:13) Chapter 15(02:32:28) Chapter 16 Learn more about your ad choices. Family Happiness by Leo Tolstoy ~ Full Audiobook [drama]
Family Happiness by Leo Tolstoy audiobook. Genre: dramaIn Family Happiness, Leo Tolstoy tells the intimate coming-of-age story of Masha, a motherless young woman growing up on a quiet Russian estate under the kindly guidance of her guardian, the reserved landowner Sergei Mikhailovich. When affection deepens into a sudden, life-altering proposal, Masha enters marriage with bright, romantic expectations and the hope that love will be enough to shape a complete, lasting happiness. But as the couple moves between the calm rhythms of country life and the glittering social whirl of the city, Masha confronts new temptations, shifting desires, and the unsettling realization that devotion can be tested not only by betrayal, but by boredom, pride, and miscommunication. Tolstoy follows the subtle changes in feeling that occur when passion settles into routine, when youth longs for admiration, and when two people discover that they may not be seeking the same kind of joy. Written with psychological precision and quiet emotional force, this novella explores marriage as both refuge and challenge, asking what it truly means to build a shared life when love must grow up alongside the lovers. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 1(00:13:31) Chapter 2(00:32:19) Chapter 3(00:53:34) Chapter 4(01:10:21) Chapter 5(01:28:31) Chapter 6(01:53:28) Chapter 7(02:14:45) Chapter 8(02:36:51) Chapter 9 Learn more about your ad choices.
