Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche ~ Full Audiobook [philosophy]
Beyond Good and Evil by Friedrich Nietzsche audiobook. Genre: philosophyIn Beyond Good and Evil, Friedrich Nietzsche launches a provocative investigation into the hidden motives behind moral beliefs and the cultural assumptions people treat as timeless truths. Written as a series of sharp, energetic sections rather than a single linear argument, the book challenges readers to question ideas such as objective morality, absolute truth, and the comforting stories societies tell themselves about virtue and vice. Nietzsche targets the legacy of traditional European philosophy and religion, arguing that many 'higher' ideals can mask deeper drives: the will to interpret, to rank, to control, and to give life a meaning that favors certain types of people. Along the way he examines the psychology of philosophers, the social power of moral language, the tension between individual creativity and herd conformity, and the costs of intellectual honesty. With aphorisms that move from biting critique to visionary calls for new values, Nietzsche invites readers to look past familiar categories of good and evil and confront the unsettling possibility that moral systems are human creations, shaped by history, temperament, and struggle. The central conflict is the reader's own: whether to cling to inherited certainties or risk a harder freedom of thought. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 00(00:06:02) Chapter 01(01:05:30) Chapter 02(01:45:35) Chapter 03(02:29:39) Chapter 04(02:53:09) Chapter 05(03:50:42) Chapter 06(04:44:18) Chapter 07(05:54:20) Chapter 08(06:56:06) Chapter 09 Learn more about your ad choices. The Grell Mystery by Frank Froest ~ Full Audiobook [mystery]
The Grell Mystery by Frank Froest audiobook. Genre: mysteryOn a rain-swept London night, American millionaire-adventurer Robert Grell leaves the comfort of his club for a secret appointment, just days before his society wedding to Lady Eileen Meredith. By morning, Grell is at the center of a scandalous puzzle: a man has been found murdered in the study of Grell's home, yet the dead man is not who the household insists he is. As whispers spread from drawing rooms to back alleys, Scotland Yard is called in to prevent a high-profile case from turning into a public humiliation. Leading the inquiry is Chief Inspector Heldon Foyle, a patient, relentless investigator who quickly realizes that every straightforward explanation falls apart under scrutiny. Grell himself has vanished, a veiled woman seems to hover at the edge of events, and a missing foreign valet deepens the sense that someone has staged the scene with care. With aristocratic reputations on the line and the criminal underworld offering its own shadowy truths, Foyle must sort genuine clues from deliberate misdirection and answer the question that drives the case: is this murder the work of chance, revenge, or a plan close to perfection? For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:08:03) Chapter 02(00:15:01) Chapter 03(00:24:04) Chapter 04(00:28:40) Chapter 05(00:33:54) Chapter 06(00:40:14) Chapter 07(00:46:59) Chapter 08(00:54:12) Chapter 09(00:59:17) Chapter 10(01:05:11) Chapter 11(01:13:46) Chapter 12(01:20:57) Chapter 13(01:29:52) Chapter 14(01:36:53) Chapter 15(01:42:22) Chapter 16(01:51:52) Chapter 17(01:59:28) Chapter 18(02:05:41) Chapter 19(02:14:18) Chapter 20(02:20:06) Chapter 21(02:30:25) Chapter 22(02:35:40) Chapter 23(02:44:30) Chapter 24(02:54:30) Chapter 25(03:02:01) Chapter 26(03:10:18) Chapter 27(03:17:58) Chapter 28(03:28:34) Chapter 29(03:36:23) Chapter 30(03:40:48) Chapter 31(03:47:53) Chapter 32(03:53:07) Chapter 33(04:01:48) Chapter 34(04:07:31) Chapter 35(04:14:39) Chapter 36(04:25:26) Chapter 37(04:33:46) Chapter 38(04:43:15) Chapter 39(04:47:51) Chapter 40(04:56:44) Chapter 41(05:06:05) Chapter 42(05:19:20) Chapter 43(05:31:21) Chapter 44(05:39:13) Chapter 45(05:49:53) Chapter 46(06:02:24) Chapter 47(06:12:30) Chapter 48(06:24:17) Chapter 49(06:29:34) Chapter 50(06:43:01) Chapter 51(06:50:55) Chapter 52(07:06:23) Chapter 53(07:13:11) Chapter 54(07:24:27) Chapter 55(07:33:02) Chapter 56 Learn more about your ad choices. Cathay by Ezra Pound ~ Full Audiobook [poetry]
Cathay by Ezra Pound audiobook. Genre: poetryThe Cathay poems appeared in a slim volume in 1915. They are, in effect, Ezra Pound’s English translations/interpretations from notebooks written by the Japanese scholar Ernest Fenollosa. Pound, not knowing any Chinese or Japanese at all, promptly created a new and somewhat complex style of translation, as he had done with words from several other languages. The Cathay poems are primarily written by the Chinese poet Li Po, referred to throughout these translations as Rihaku, the Japanese form of his name. These poems came to have a profound influence on 20th Century poetry, spawning, among other things, the Imagist movement, and helped in the generation of widespread interest in Asian literature and thought. Also included in this collection are two poems from Pound’s 1912 collection Ripostes. “The Seafarer” is another of Pound’s experiments in translation, this one from the Anglo-Saxon. Flatland - A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin Abbott Abbott ~ Full Audiobook [scifi]
Flatland - A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin Abbott Abbott audiobook. Genre: scifiIn the perfectly ordered world of Flatland, everything and everyone is a geometric shape, and your place in society is literally defined by the number of sides you have. A Square, a respectable middle-class professional, lives a predictable life governed by rigid rules, sharp prejudices, and an unquestioned faith in the dimensions he can see. But on the eve of the centennial celebration, his routine is interrupted by unsettling encounters that hint at realities beyond length and width. When a mysterious visitor from a higher dimension appears, the Square is drawn into a mind-bending journey that challenges his understanding of space, logic, and even the limits of imagination. As he struggles to communicate what he has learned to a society terrified of the unknown, Flatland becomes both a playful mathematical thought experiment and a pointed satire of social hierarchy, conformity, and intellectual censorship. By blending wit with wonder, Edwin Abbott Abbott crafts a story that invites listeners to reconsider how easily 'common sense' can become a cage - and how daring it is to see the world from a different angle. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 1(00:22:55) Chapter 2(00:50:48) Chapter 3(01:15:58) Chapter 4(01:46:01) Chapter 5(02:06:29) Chapter 6(02:34:13) Chapter 7(03:10:04) Chapter 8(03:54:33) Chapter 9 Learn more about your ad choices. The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket by Edgar Allan Poe ~ Full Audiobook [horror]
The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket by Edgar Allan Poe audiobook. Genre: horrorWhen young Arthur Gordon Pym, a restless teenager in Nantucket, convinces his friend Augustus Barnard to help him stow away on a whaling voyage, he expects adventure - not a descent into terror. Hidden in the cramped hold of the Grampus, Pym is plunged into darkness, hunger, and delirium as the ship lurches into crisis. When disaster erupts above deck, he and a handful of survivors are forced into uneasy alliances, facing mutiny, brutal violence, and the thin line between courage and desperation. Cast adrift on an indifferent ocean, their struggle becomes a grim test of endurance as they chase uncertain rescue and reckon with what people will do to live. Yet survival only opens the door to stranger horizons. As Pym's journey carries him farther south into unknown seas, the familiar rules of navigation, nature, and human behavior begin to warp, and the expedition turns into an eerie exploration of the boundaries between fact and nightmare. Poe blends sea tale realism with mounting dread, building a voyage that is as much about the mind's extremes as the world's edge. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 00(00:05:06) Chapter 01(00:27:09) Chapter 02(01:06:05) Chapter 03(01:27:25) Chapter 04(01:45:44) Chapter 05(02:03:00) Chapter 06(02:23:18) Chapter 07(02:38:57) Chapter 08(02:55:56) Chapter 09(03:14:35) Chapter 10(03:26:16) Chapter 11(03:42:04) Chapter 12(04:05:35) Chapter 13(04:27:38) Chapter 14(04:48:42) Chapter 15(05:00:18) Chapter 16(05:11:59) Chapter 17(05:24:24) Chapter 18(05:39:38) Chapter 19(05:52:48) Chapter 20(06:08:37) Chapter 21(06:20:42) Chapter 22(06:35:01) Chapter 23(06:45:41) Chapter 24(07:00:43) Chapter 25(07:13:05) Chapter 26 Learn more about your ad choices. Last Days of Pompeii by Edward G. Bulwer-Lytton ~ Full Audiobook [history]
Last Days of Pompeii by Edward G. Bulwer-Lytton audiobook. Genre: historyLast Days of Pompeii is a novel written by Edward Bulwer-Lytton in 1834. Once a very widely read book and now relatively neglected, it culminates in the cataclysmic destruction of the city of Pompeii by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD.The novel uses its characters to contrast the decadent culture of first-century Rome with both older cultures and coming trends. The protagonist, Glaucus, represents the Greeks who have been subordinated by Rome, and his nemesis Arbaces the still older culture of Egypt. Olinthus is the chief representative of the nascent Christian religion, which is presented favorably but not uncritically. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 01(00:06:32) Chapter 02(00:32:39) Chapter 03(01:13:11) Chapter 04(01:34:44) Chapter 05(01:51:20) Chapter 06(02:18:59) Chapter 07(02:39:43) Chapter 08(03:10:38) Chapter 09(03:30:54) Chapter 10(03:42:28) Chapter 11(03:56:29) Chapter 12(04:26:41) Chapter 13(04:40:45) Chapter 14(04:54:54) Chapter 15(05:06:26) Chapter 16(05:35:46) Chapter 17(06:04:15) Chapter 18(06:17:25) Chapter 19(06:37:25) Chapter 20(06:57:36) Chapter 21(07:22:23) Chapter 22(07:36:30) Chapter 23(07:52:28) Chapter 24(08:06:36) Chapter 25(08:20:48) Chapter 26(08:45:18) Chapter 27(09:03:49) Chapter 28(09:20:47) Chapter 29(09:26:57) Chapter 30(09:48:01) Chapter 31(10:18:06) Chapter 32(10:31:16) Chapter 33(10:46:14) Chapter 34(11:13:07) Chapter 35(11:37:58) Chapter 36(11:54:23) Chapter 37(12:00:11) Chapter 38(12:12:07) Chapter 39(12:21:58) Chapter 40(12:32:18) Chapter 41(12:48:25) Chapter 42(12:54:00) Chapter 43(13:10:50) Chapter 44(13:27:06) Chapter 45(14:01:54) Chapter 46(14:27:40) Chapter 47(15:05:51) Chapter 48(15:10:57) Chapter 49(15:32:54) Chapter 50(15:42:22) Chapter 51(15:53:24) Chapter 52(16:05:43) Chapter 53(16:14:38) Chapter 54(16:26:04) Chapter 55(16:32:29) Chapter 56 Learn more about your ad choices. The Book of Dragons by Edith Nesbit ~ Full Audiobook [fantasy]
The Book of Dragons by Edith Nesbit audiobook. Genre: fantasyIn The Book of Dragons, Edith Nesbit gathers a sparkling set of fantasy tales in which dragons are not distant legends but troublesome, tempting, and often very funny neighbors to the human world. Across these stories, curious children, stubborn adults, would-be heroes, and unlucky families stumble into encounters with beasts that breathe fire, freeze rivers, hoard treasure, or slip into everyday life in startling disguises. Each adventure begins with a small decision - a broken rule, a careless wish, a plan to be brave, or the belief that magic can be managed - and then follows the consequences as dragons upset households, kingdoms, and expectations. With her trademark blend of wit and warmth, Nesbit turns classic fairy-tale ingredients into something sharper and more surprising: courage is tested, cleverness matters as much as strength, and kindness can be as powerful as any sword. By turns mischievous and suspenseful, these stories invite listeners to delight in wonder while recognizing the hard truths beneath the enchantment: magic always has a price, and growing up often means learning which bargains to refuse. For ad-free listening try our premium subscription Chapters (Approximate)(00:00:00) Chapter 1(00:28:14) Chapter 2(01:00:42) Chapter 3(01:29:43) Chapter 4(02:07:23) Chapter 5(02:38:14) Chapter 6(03:09:10) Chapter 7(03:39:13) Chapter 8 Learn more about your ad choices. The Trail of the Axe by Ridgwell Cullum ~ Full Audiobook [adventure]
The Trail of the Axe by Ridgwell Cullum audiobook. Genre: adventureDave ran a lumber mill in western Canada. There are some workers within his organization who he trusts implicitly, some who he doesn't trust at all, and some who he is unsure about. But Dave is basically a trusting soul. Most of the folks in Malkern liked him, as he had been a major factor in shaping the village and in providing employment for a lot of the folks who lived in the area. Dave was not a pleasant site to look at; ungainly, not very attractive, yet he had a heart that was the antithesis of his lack of physical attractiveness.Dave was a good friend to Betty, who had promised her hand in marriage to Jim Truscott, who was on leave from Malkern searching for gold in the Yukon territory to secure a future for himself and his bride-to-be. Truscott had asked Dave to watch over Betty during his absence, but when he returned from his fortune seeking expedition in the Yukon, Truscott was a changed man. He didn't seem the same personable Jim Truscott that Betty had promised herself to, and Dave was a bit suspicious of his personality alterations as well. Now, Betty had to decide whether to hold herself to her promise, and Dave had to determine whether or not he should also keep himself to the promise he had made to his friend. There is plenty of action, suspense, and personal introspection combined with a love story in The Trail of the Axe, and many a surprise awaits every turn.
