What is your observation of the “cancel culture” that we live in today? How would you describe “cancel culture”? What are some examples you have seen of people today being cancelled? Would you say that cancelling people is fair or unfair? Explain your answer. How might it feel to be cancelled by the world around you? 2. Big Idea: Jesus did not come to cancel people, but to cancel sin.Read Colossians 2:13-14, John 3:16-18How does it feel to know that Jesus has cancelled your sin but will never cancel you? How can we know that Jesus will never cancel us? How does this change how we might respond to our failures in this life? 3. When you reflect on the resurrection of Jesus what gives you hope and encourages your heart? 4. Read Philippians 3:10-11How have you experienced the power of the resurrection in your life? (ie. How has your life changed? How have you experienced a growing relationship with Jesus? How have you seen the power of Jesus at work in your life?) 5. Paul says that part of knowing Jesus is participating in the same kind of suffering that He experienced. What kind of suffering did Jesus experience in his life? Why can this be a comforting thought when we are experiencing pain and suffering and loss in our life? Why is it important to understand that that suffering is a normal part of knowing and walking with Jesus? 6. Read 1 Corinthians 15:20Jesus’ physical resurrection is called the first fruits of our resurrection. What does this verse mean? Reflect on the reality that you will be given a physical body for all of eternity that will not age, decay, get sick, experience pain or loss, suffering, or death…What thoughts does this bring to mind? How are you experiencing suffering and pain in your life right now? How are you seeing people in your life experience suffering and pain? 2. We cannot read God’s favor or disfavor by assessing how troubled a person’s life is. True or False? Why?What does the Bible teach us about this statement? What have you learned from personal experience about this statement? 3. Why do some of us expect that God would/should spare His all-in followers from the suffering of this world? 4. What are some wrong beliefs or responses that can come from pain and suffering? What questions does suffering raise about God, about us, about our relationship with Him? What truths of Scripture do we need to keep in mind in order to counter these wrong beliefs and responses? 5. READ: 2 Corinthians 1:3-7 3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. 5 For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. 6 If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurance of the same sufferings we suffer. 7 And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort. How are other believers intended to be an extension of God’s comfort to us in the midst of our pain and suffering? How have you seen God use other people to be a source of comfort for you? How have you been a source of comfort to others? Share some specific examples… 6. Why would isolation be detrimental to someone in the midst of suffering? Why can we tend toward isolation? How can we break through our tendency to isolate? What will that require of us? 7. Do you personally move toward people in suffering or tend to isolate? Why? Explain… 8. What specifically do we need from others in our suffering in order to experience comfort? What things from others can actually be unhelpful, even if offered with good motives? 9. What has been the most challenging thing you have experienced in trying to be an ALL IN follower of Jesus? 2. What are some examples from Scripture where people had to make difficult choices to be obedient and follow God/Jesus? What difficulties did they face? What made the choices challenging? Why do you think they were able to make the decisions that they did? Explain. 3. What have been some of the difficult decisions you have made in your life in order to say “yes” to following Jesus? What was the outcome of saying “yes”? Have you ever said “no” to some decisions to obey and follow Jesus? Share those stories. What was the cost of saying “no”? 4. Mission Statement: Together, we lead people in becoming All In followers of Jesus. — Do you believe that an ALL IN follower of Jesus must live out their faith TOGETHER with other believers? Why or why not? 2. Read John 13:34-35 — How would you describe the way Jesus has loved us? What adjectives would you use? How is it even possible for us to love other people in that same way? 3. Jesus said the defining characteristic of an ALL IN follower is seen in our love for one another. How would you evaluate your love for other followers? How would you evaluate other followers' love for you? 4. Can we love Jesus while at the same time not be actively loving His church (other followers)? Why or why not? 5. What makes it difficult for you to love other followers this way? What barriers do you need to overcome? What are some practical ways you could seek to overcome those barriers? 6. For us to be known and loved (and to love and know others) requires vulnerability. What makes vulnerability difficult for people? Difficult for you?
