Jay Pages - 4th Degree Caio Terra Black Belt
Today on the show we have Jay Pages. Jay is a fourth degree Caio Terra black belt, Jay owns the amazing Jay Pages academy in Tempe, Arizona with his black belt wife Lisa Pages. Jay is also the primary host of the west coast location of The BJJ Globetrotters week long camp, which typically occurs twice a year.
Let me preface this by saying I like Jay, I like Jay a lot. The minute I walked in his academy he was incredibly welcoming and when I was having trouble with a simple concept in one of the many sessions he was happy to assist. I was a solo traveling stranger there and he made this social/introvert a lot less nervous about being there. I loved this conversation, in the episode things get real, Jay shares with great transparency his insight into training methodologies, specific techniques, your game development, investing in yourself, and even some much appreciated personal stories.

The Future of BJJ Instruction, Josh Wentworth
Today on the show we have Josh Wentworth. Josh is the Owner and Head Coach of Apex MMA in Covington, Georgia. Josh is a BJJ Black Belt under Professor Casey Baynes.
This is an information dense episode, first and most fascinating to me we discuss what some consider to be the future of BJJ instruction, “the reverse classroom”. Josh gave me access to his student portal, in short, it's very impressive. The amount of work he has put into the curriculum is something to behold. The vast amount of videos he's recorded and the written detail of each technique that relates to said video must have taken a massive amount of time and effort to complete. It's fascinated to get a view of what he considers mandatory concepts to have down per belt and stripe via the various programs within his ActionNote setup.
Later we get into other topics such as the ice Creme cone grip popularized recently by friend of the show Charles Harriott, what is Brunch-jitsu, the belt rank system, the fallacy of winning in the gym, how to make the most of seminars and BJJ camps and more. Josh thought he was invited on the show just for his reverse classroom way of teaching but really I just liked the guy from the moment I met him. I gravitate towards people with a point of view, and Josh has a point of view about a great many things. I'm also fascinated by people who just practice Kaizen aka continuous improvement as a way of life, training, teaching, and business which Josh just seems to do by nature.

BJJ Psychology David Ley, Ph.D.
I’ve wanted to do an episode on the psychology of Jiu Jitsu for some time. I know this is a very broad topic and that this can mean many different things to many different people. In this episode, we make an attempt to cover some of what I feel are imperative scenarios. Recently I happened to have stumbled upon an article in Psychology Today entitled, “The Psychology of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu”. After reading the paper I knew I had to have the author on the show to help field the myriad of questions I had, most of which we answer on the show.
David Ley, Ph.D., was born with one hand, is a BJJ Black Belt, and is a clinical psychologist in practice in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He earned his Doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the University of New Mexico. Dr. Ley is licensed in New Mexico and North Carolina and has provided clinical and consultative services in numerous other states. He is the Executive Director of New Mexico Solutions, a large outpatient mental health and substance abuse program in Albuquerque, NM.
Dr. Ley has been treating sexuality issues throughout his career. He first began treating perpetrators and victims of sexual abuse but expanded his approach to include the fostering and promotion of healthy sexuality, and awareness of the wide range of normative sexual behaviors.
Dr. Ley has published 3 books and dozens of articles on Psychology Today, he’s been featured in The New York Post, London Telegraph, CNN, Huffington Post, and many more.

Joshua Janis - Painless Precise Playful BJJ
On the show, I have Joshua Janis. Josh is a Black Belt under Jon Friedland and an instructor at The Pedro Sauer affiliated Neutral Ground Academy in Milwaukee WI.
This is the perfect episode for those of you with an open mind, Josh's perspectives on playful BJJ, the Guillotine, Wim Hof, cold exposure, breathing for BJJ and personal growth are intriguing and inspiring. I think his "brand" of BJJ has the possibility of tremendous growth and scale, as he states "it's not for everyone" but I do think it's quite possibly for the silent majority.

Charles Harriott - Breakdancing And BJJ
Today on the show I have Charles Harriott a black belt under professor Rinaldo Santos. Charles is quite the renaissance man having a deep background in Physics, Breakdancing, Judo, Kempo, and MMA. He is a fantastic instructor and basically lives on the road doing seminars and substitute teaching in academies across the world. I was fortunate to participate in a couple of his Globetrotter classes and I must say his knowledge of the leg lock game is something to behold. Charles is incredibly thoughtful and candid, this episode is packed with information so pay attention cause a firehose of data is coming your way.
