E82 - Extreme Agency Makeover with Kelly Donahue-Piro

This episode is sponsored by IA Path - Online Adjuster Training. Go to https://iapath.comThis episode was almost too much fun. Tony and I discuss all things agency with Kelly Donahue-Piro, President of Agency Performance Partners. Kelly discusses the things that great agencies do (and why poor performing agencies are poor performing). As Kelly mentions, great agencies strive for excellence. They hold everyone accountable and they execute their vision for excellence in every aspect of the business from recruiting and hiring to training to performance management. We had a great discussion about personal lines agencies and Kelly's thoughts were that the decline of the personal lines agent has more to do with poor execution than poor economics. We had a lot of fun in this episode and be sure to look out for future broadcast between Agency Performance Partners and Insurance Nerds in the near future!CONNECT WITH KELLY DONAHUE-PIRO:LinkedIn: https://goo.gl/BAOlsuTwitter: https://goo.gl/6Kpz6tHome Page: https://www.agencyperformancepartners.com/BOOKS RECOMMENDED BY KELLY:Hug Your Customers by Jack MitchellThe Hard Thing About Hard Things by Ben HorowitzSUBSCRIBE AT:Buzzsprout RSS: https://goo.gl/5K4X3QGoogle Play: https://goo.gl/WMAvW4iTunes: https://goo.gl/7SqwvP Overcast: https://goo.gl/8b4cbDStitcher: https://goo.gl/DmE7MiYouTube: https://goo.gl/1Turar

E78 - Insurtech Namaste With Jason Keck, CEO of Broker Buddha

This episode is sponsored by IA Path - Unlocking Your Adjusting Superpowers. Go to iapath.comBroker Buddha helps Insurance Brokers & Agents win more business by moving the application and renewal process into an interactive, customer-friendly online experience. In this episode Tony (he is the one making all of the typing sounds at the beginning of the podcast - before I sent him a nasty message) & I spoke with Jason Keck, CEO of Broker Buddha. Jason discussed more than just the solutions Broker Buddha provides. One big insight that I took away from this recording was Jason's belief that successful startups need to be really good at, and remembered for one BIG thing. Too many startups are trying to solve too many problems, too quickly. Their potential customers can't pin down that one thing they are really good at, thus, aren't known for solving any problem. Jason is a serial entrepreneur with senior experience at some big-time startups such as Shazam. He definitely brings an interesting perspective to how insurtech should solve insurance-related problems.CONNECT WITH JASON KECK: LinkedInTwitterBroker Buddha Home PageBOOKS:The 4-Hour Work Week by Tim FerrissMENTIONED ON THE PODCAST:Tim Ferris PodcastYeswareSlackPipeDriveBoomerang For GmailQuickMailSubscribe at: Stitcher iTunes Google Play YouTubeBuzzsprout RSS

E76 - SPECIAL BONUS EPISODE - Conversations From The 2018 Global Insurance Symposium

Last week I was very fortunate to attend the 2018 Global Insurance Symposium in Des Moines, IA. With well over 650 attendees, this is one of the biggest insurance focused events of the year. Besides great speakers and panel discussions, we got to hear the final pitches from the latest cohort of the Global Insurance Accelerator, a Des Moines based insurtech accelerator lead by Brian Hemesath. Another perk of the event is that I can walk around and talk to people. This special episode of Profiles in Risk comprises my random conversations with a variety of attendees of the conference. The interview list is below. Here is a video with Ryan Hanley (I am the last interviewee). E75: Bob Frady, CEO of HazardHub on Property Risk, Fire Hydrants, The Law of Large Numbers & Stand-up Comedy

Bob Frady is not your normal CEO.Bob is CEO and co-founder of HazardHub, a company which provides a full hazard report card on your property. Fire, flood, wind, earth movement, and even man-made risks are all covered and graded. The report also tells property owners where the closest fire station and fire hydrants are. It is the most comprehensive hazard report available. You can get one free at www.freehomerisk.com.One interesting take away from my conversation with Bob was about the Law of Large Numbers. This insurance principle has protected insurers for 300 years. Even with Insurtech on the rise, insurers are still somewhat shielded by the Law of Large Numbers. So even in an environment with imperfect information becoming less imperfect every day, this principle is still quite valid (information will never be perfect). Bob was also a stand-up comic. With permission, here is my favorite laugh out loud skit of Bob's CONNECT WITH BOB FRADY: LinkedIn HazardHub Home Page  BOOKS:Papi: My Story by David Ortiz & Michael HolleyBack From The Dead by Bill WaltonThe Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg
