"We Are Not A Christian Nation" w/Brian Kaylor, President of Word & Way

Have a comment? Send us a text! (We read all of them but can't reply). Email us: Will@faithfulpoliticspodcast.comHave you heard the term, "We are a Christian Nation, founded on Christian Ideals?" Our guest this week, Brian Kaylor, would likely take issue with a comment like that, and guess what...He's also a Christian Pastor, Editor, and President of one of the oldest Christian publications in America called Word & Way, founded in 1896. Brian, unlike many evangelicals in America, is steadfast in his efforts to ensure that separation of church and state rings true for believers and non-believers. It's not uncommon to find Brian testifying alongside atheist and satanist when state legislatures are pushing for Bible literacy classes in public schools, or when there's a bill giving special rights to collegiate religious student associations. This is an amazing chat and discussion that I hope you will enjoy! Check out this short documentary that features Brian Kaylor "Is America a Christian nation? So, how does a person go from a one-time supporter of Trump, tweeting in the fall of 2016, "On November 8th, I'm voting for Trump. On November 9th, if Trump loses, I'm grabbing my musket. You in?” to writing a book called: “F*ck Silence: Calling Trump Out for the Cultish, Moronic, Authoritarian Con Man He Is”?Will Wright (Political Host) talks with Joe Walsh on this week’s Faithful Politics Podcast about his career as a social worker, politician, and political homelessness. This episode shows you a side of Joe Walsh that you probably have never seen, or heard, before, as he reflects on past regrets, redemption, and the future of the GOP.About Joe WalshWilliam Joseph Walsh (born December 27, 1961) is an American politician, conservative talk radio host, former social worker, and former 2020 Republican presidential candidate who served one term in the United States House of Representatives representing Illinois's 8th congressional district.Born and raised in the Chicago metropolitan area, Walsh began his career as a social worker providing education and job skills training to students in low-income areas, gradually becoming more politically active. When coverage is good and beneficial to their agenda, the media can do no wrong in the eyes of elected officials. However, when honest reporting exposes and uncovers an area of weakness, well that causes leaders to vilify, attack, and in some extreme cases implicate reporters as a possible co-conspirator under the Espionage Act of 1917. Thanks, Obama. This week we talk with veteran journalist Julie Mason and Olivier Knox on the role of journalism in keeping our elected officials honest. With trust in the media at an all-time low, according to Edelman's annual trust barometer, Julie and Olivier provide some useful insight on how we got here, the future of journalism, and what news consumers can do to become more media literate. One thing that was discussed in the show was the slow collapse of local newspapers and media. So if you haven't subscribed to your local news organization with a paid subscription please do so, it's the only tool the public has to keep our local officials accountable.Julie Mason - BioAs a daily show host on SiriusXM’s POTUS channel for almost a decade, Julie Mason has a morning show called Julie Mason Mornings. Email us: Will@faithfulpoliticspodcast.com**We're currently on a brief vacation and will return in early 2022, but wanted to replay some of our favorite episodes and interviews from this past year** Hope you enjoy! In the final episode of our series exploring what Critical Race Theory (CRT) is, we speak with author, mathematician, and political commentator, Dr. James Lindsay. James has written six books spanning a range of subjects including religion, the philosophy of science and postmodern theory. He is the founder of New Discourses and currently promoting his new book "Cynical Theories: How Activist Scholarship Made Everything about Race, Gender, and Identity―and Why This Harms Everybody." Dr. Lindsay offers a viewpoint and opinion on Critical Race Theory that differs from the previous two guests in this series. While many believe that CRT is a legal framework by which to view the racial disparity among minorities, Dr. Lindsay argues that this is a dangerous, and racist, theory that undermines the progress and the vision of the Civil Rights Movement. If you are interested in hearing a counter argument to CRT, Dr. Lindsay provides a well informed and well researched view that you are unlikely to hear anywhere else.
