Harriet Cowan is not your stereotypical farmer.British farmers are under pressure and are often misunderstood. Harriet is making it her mission to change our perception of farmers and farming. Words matter and the way we use them can either uphold or challenge harmful systems.This week we’re joined by Sydney - the co-founder of This Ends Now, a not-for-profit dedicated to preventing male violence against women and girls through reframing conversations. Sydney tells us how language plays a powerful role in shaping our understanding of sexism and male violence and how changing the words we use can help dismantle the patriarchy.We dive into their powerful ‘Red Pen’ campaign, which calls out the victim-blaming, misogynistic language too often used in headlines and police reports and corrects them to advocate for responsible reporting.Our chat with Sydney was fascinating, and really opened up our eyes to how simple changes to the language we use can make a huge difference - and felt particularly important off the back of our conversation with Laura Bates last week. What would you do if you got stuck in a cave? Cave diving is something that has fascinated - and terrified - us for a long time - and today we had the opportunity to get all our questions answered by acclaimed explorer and cave diver - Rannvá Jørmundsson. Rannvá has a background as a professional diving instructor, specialising in cold water. Rannvá is originally from the Faroe Islands, but currently lives in Cornwall, where she works for the diving equipment company Fourth Element. Rannva has been diving since 2008 and is an IDC Staff instructor and full cave CCR diver, and she is a member of the Explorers Club in New York.Rannvá told us all about her passion for diving, how she feels it's the best form of mediation and also how she uses her extensive training to handle the risks and dangers involved in cave exploration.
