149 / Your Communication Patterns with Cassandra LeClair
Most of us have not only NOT been taught the skills to communicate well, we’ve been taught the opposite. We’ve probably observed more examples of INeffective communication than anything. Think about it for a second… were your parents good examples of this? Your first love? Your first boss? I’m gonna take a stab in the dark, and guess the answer for most of us is a hard NO.
I am Nicole Kalil, and you can put this episode of TIWW under the category of “shit we should have learned, but didn’t and now it’s wreaking havoc in our lives”. Today, we’re going to develop the skill of COMMUNICATION… especially communicating the hard stuff.
Here to support our learning is Dr. Cassandra LeClair, communication consultant, author of Being Whole, and motivational speaker, who is an expert on communicating in relationships and improving connections. Her mission is to educate people on how to understand their communication patterns in order to build effective and healthy communication that enhances their professional and personal relationships.
As is true with ALL learning, we learn best through experience, so I don’t want this to be a half an hour where you got some good theoretical tips, I want you to PRACTICE what you’ve learned.
Because practice makes progress. And since very few of us were taught effective communication along the way, we’ve got lots of practicing to do.

148 / Reclaim OWNERSHIP Over Your Own Health with Andrea Nakayama
You know how I feel about one-size-fits-all solutions to anything, and the health and wellness industry is no exception.
So when we cover topics like todays, I’m always careful to bring people on who will share what they’ve learned, what they know to be true, their expertise BUT ALSO say that YOU need to figure out what’s right, best, and true for you. Said another way, they offer solutions, just not the one-size fits all kind.
With that in mind, let me introduce you to our guest. Andrea Nakayama is a Functional Medicine Nutritionist, educator, and Host of the 15-Minute Matrix Podcast, where she draws on systems biology, mental models, root cause methodology and the therapeutic partnership to offer long-awaited solutions for the rapidly growing chronic illness epidemic. Andrea is leading a revolution in which we reclaim OWNERSHIP over our own health.
Here’s all I know for sure: your body is yours, you only get one, and you’re the only one who has to, who gets to, take care of it.
There are many ways we can abandon ourselves, but hating our bodies so much that we don’t even listen to them anymore has got to be pretty high up on the list.
Prioritizing our health and longevity is the most beautiful thing we can do.

147 / People-Pleasing & Being “Needy” with Mara Glatzel
When under stress, overwhelmed, or feeling burnt out, it is incredible how quickly many of us default back to perfectionism and people-pleasing and abandon ourselves.
On this episode of TIWW, we’re going to talk about how to advocate for YOUR needs… first to yourself and then to others. I’m joined by Mara Glatzel, author, intuitive coach, and host of the “Needy” podcast. Mara helps humans stop abandoning themselves and start reclaiming their humanity through embracing their needs.
Because you’re a human living a human experience, you have needs. Those needs don’t make you selfish, weak, or a burden. It may have been awhile since you acknowledged them. Maybe you’ve been setting them aside for the sake of another. Maybe you’re scared they’ll never get met. Maybe someone told you you were wrong for wanting what you want.
The time has come for you to ask for what you need.
And then expect it, first from yourself and then from others.
Then advocate for it.
Because you’ve always been worth it.

146 / The Happiness Equation with Zenica Chatman
I know being happy every minute of every day isn’t an option, but I do wish I saw more women experiencing it regularly. I wish women allowed themselves to choose happiness FAR more frequently without feeling guilty or selfish.
So let’s talk about how we might do that.
Joining me is Zenica Chatman, who after experiencing workplace trauma, went on a path to redefine her own self-worth and what it means to be happy and successful. Now as a certified coach, she’s helped many other women do the same.
What does it mean to be happy, FOR YOU?
Are you choosing it? Every day?
Because happiness is an available option far more often than we think. And you deserve to choose happiness.

145 / How To Talk To Your Enemies with Alicia Dunams
I admire SO MUCH when I see people deal with difficult personalities, big egos, or people who’ve done major harm and they somehow manage to stay cool, calm, and collected. Being able to have a productive conversation with someone who makes your blood boil is a true superpower.
Which is why I’ve invited Alicia Dunams, speaker, coach, certified mediator, peacemaker and author of the book, How to Talk to Your Enemies to the show. She shares specific words, phrases, and approaches to start dialogues off on the right foot toward mutual understanding and healing. Whether it’s expressing boundaries, handling political and moral differences, giving sincere apologies, responding to accusations of racism or sexism - Alicia provides the tools to have even the most bitter enemies experience compassion and catharsis.
The skill of communicating effectively with people we disagree with is desperately needed.
Rage, cursing, and walking away have their place, but listening, apologizing, empathy, curiosity, understanding, healing, and peacemaking are necessary in todays climate.
Who better to lead the way than us? WOMEN have long understood the POWER and STRENGTH required to do any one of those things… listening isn’t the easy way out, ignoring is. Empathy isn’t weak, righteousness and revenge are.
The irony is all the things they’ve been calling soft skills are the hardest ones. It’s time to do woman’s work.
To learn more about Alicia you can visit her website or follow her on IG @AliciaDunams. You can access the first chapter of her book for free by going to www.talktoyourenemies.com

144 / Jay & Nicole Kalil on Partnership, With Guest Host Lynn Casaletto
On this very special episode, guest host Lynn Casaletto takes over the mic and not only interviews Nicole, but also her partner in life, Jay Kalil!
They talk about everything from how they make their marriage work (and some things they do to get back on track when it’s not working), pet peeves, parenting, planning, and more! Questions were collected from Nicole’s community, and Lynn dished them out… listen in to hear their responses and perspectives.
Partnership can be hard, especially when two career-focused, busy, goal-oriented people come together… and partnership can also be the thing that makes it all better, easier, and fun! We know Nicole would never want to send the message that anything in her life is perfect, and this episode is not about offering marriage advice.
This is two partners sharing how they manage it all, and a glimpse behind the scenes to meet Nicole’s favorite person on the planet, Jay, and hear from his perspective how he supports Woman’s Work.
Here’s access to our Family Planning Agenda as well as the TIWW podcast episode #003 Family Planning where Nicole breaks it down step by step.

143 / The Real Reason You Have Nothing to Wear with Ellie Steinbrink
I wonder if we added up ALL the minutes we’ve wasted standing in front of our closets thinking “I have nothing to wear” and all the time we’ve spent trying on 17 different outfits (only to walk out wearing the one we hate the least), how much time we’d have? Enough to learn a new language? An extra 2 weeks vacation every year?
So my friends, let's give you back the greatest commodities you have: your TIME and your sanity. I’ve invited Ellie Steinbrink, Expert Stylist, Personal Brand Coach, and owner of Style Decoded, to join us today. She’s on a mission to help women show up with more authenticity and feel 100% confident in their own skin every day. Styling is her passion, (yes, she does do work virtually) and she loves teaching women how to define and own their unique personal brand through style.
I believe that confidence is when you have firm and bold trust in yourself. And while I don’t believe your clothes will ever bring you confidence, I do believe it’s easier to trust yourself when you feel great, feel comfortable, and feel like YOU.
At the end of the day, who you’re BEING in the world is infinitely more interesting, and confidence is significantly more captivating than whatever it is that you’re wearing…remember that when you’re standing in your closet.

142 / Make Your Comeback Stronger Than Your Setback with Julia Wolfendale
I’ve been knocked down more times than I care to count, and the only thing I can tell you with any kind of certainty is that I’ve gotten UP at least one more time than I’ve been knocked down.
I believe that’s true for you too. Because you’re here.
On this episode of TIWW we’re going to talk about getting BACK into action after a setback. Because I know TWO THINGS FOR SURE, from every conversation I’ve had and every woman I’ve interacted with (even the ones with all the followers, even the bestsellers, and the stage walkers, and all the women we think have it all figured out), and those two things are: first, EVERYONE faces setbacks and second, EVERYONE struggles with them.
Joining me is Julia Wolfendale, Executive Coach, Author of Five Ways to Focus, and Founder and Director of On The Up Consulting. She is qualified to a masters level in leadership and has trained and coached hundreds of CEOs, directors, and senior managers across a variety of industries. Now specializing in strengths-based coaching, she inspires people to get back into action on even their toughest days.
Setbacks are what happen to you. Comebacks are what you make happen.
Pick yourself up.
Dust yourself off.
Get back into action… head high, eyes forward, deep breath, trust in self.
Because it’s COMEBACKS, not setbacks, that a well-lived life is made of.

141 / How Regular Women Take Risks with Liz Deacle
Our topic is about taking risks, but I didn’t want to cover it with one of those “mer-women” (like mermaids, but with independence) who has done it all, unafraid, and made it look effortless. I wanted to talk about it with someone who I know would be REAL.
Real women taking real risks, big and small, with REAL feelings about it.
So, without further delay, let me introduce my new friend Liz Deacle. Liz, is a British expat currently living in New Zealand with her family. Liz and her husband embarked on a year-long backpacking adventure with their teenagers on a budget of just $70 a day. This experience inspired Liz to start a travel blog where she discovered her hidden talent for storytelling and developed a mastery for using Pinterest to build a loyal audience.
Today, Liz and Brian spend long periods traveling, creating content for their two popular websites and running a membership site that helps other people who want to move to New Zealand. Their YouTube channel, “It’s a Drama,” has over a million views, and their comedy podcast also called It’s a Drama, has hundreds of thousands of downloads. She has just published her first book, The Travel Bog Diaries.
With risk there comes failure, but failure isn’t permanent. Only regret is. And with risk there also comes success, confidence, and the life you really want. Isn’t that worth the risk?
Start small, but start.
