InPresence host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in “parapsychology” ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). For many years he served as president of the non-profit Intuition Network, an organization dedicated to creating a world in which all people were supported and encouraged in developing inner intuitive abilities. Here he describes his initial 1968 encounter with the teaching of Rudolf Steiner. Steiner was a man of enormous talents who wrote 200 books and gave 6,000 lectures. He founded many disciplines including Eurythmy, Waldorf Education, and Bio-Dynamic agriculture. He was an artist, playwrite, architect, and sculptor. He wrote extensively about spirituality and esoteric subjects. In particular, Jeffrey focuses on Steiner’s writings about achieving initiation by encountering the Guardian of the Threshold. John Brandenburg, PhD, is a plasma physicist. Here he describes his concerns about nuclear war as he worked in U.S. government weapons laboratories. Eventually he became captivated by the possibility that the “face on Mars” indicated intelligent life elsewhere in our solar system. Carlos S. Alvarado, PhD, is a Research Fellow at the Parapsychology Foundation, and Adjunct Research Faculty at Sofia University. He is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Near-Death Studies and the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research, and is the Book Review Editor of the Journal of Parapsychology, and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Scientific Exploration. Alvarado is also the recipient of the 2010 Parapsychological Association’s Outstanding Contribution Award, the Parapsychological Association 2017 Outstanding Career Award. He is author of the book, Charles Richet: A Nobel Prize Winning Scientist’s Explorations of Psychic Phenomena. Here he describes the various investigations conducted with one of the most colorful and fascinating characters in the history of psychical research. Although it was widely acknowledged that Eusapia Palladino sometimes employed fraudulent methods to produce ostensible paranormal effects, he argues that a careful study of the literature provides convincing evidence that many of the phenomena she produced were genuine. These included materializations and table levitations. Seances with her inspired many different theoretical and experimental approaches. Andy Hilton is author of Anthropology and Mysticism in the Making of Initiation. He is also coeditor of the anthology, Perspectives on Commoning. Here he describes the idea of “commoning” as derived from the commons associated with medieval villages. Typically, this was a square in the center where the residents would graze their sheep.
