Bruce Olav Solheim, PhD, is professor of history at Citrus College in Glendora, California. He also served as a Fulbright professor in 2003 at the University of Tromsø in northern Norway. He teaches a paranormal personal history course. He is author of five books on history and political science, one novel, three plays, and three books about his personal paranormal history, Timeless: A Paranormal Personal History, Timeless Deja Vu: A Paranormal Personal History, and Timeless Trinity: An Extra-Terrestrial and Paranormal Personal History. He is also author of a new comic book series, about an alien visitor to earth, called SNARC. Darryl Robert Schoon is a financial analyst famous for having predicted the 2008 market crash. His website is www.drschoon.com. He is author of Light in a Dark Place: The Prison Years, Time of the Vulture, Report to the House Select Committee on Intelligence, Is God Confused?, and The Way to Heaven. He has also written a novel titled You Can’t Always Get What You Want. He is a minister with the Temple of Universality in Tucson, Arizona. Here he reviews his history of working with affirmations, building upon a previous video conversation made four months earlier. He reports that, since then, he has begun once again working with affirmations. The discussion delves into the nature of thought itself. He further amplifies the distinction between the Tonal and Nagual, as described by Don Juan in the writings of Carlos Castaneda. He questions conventional thinking that values thought over emotions, and emotions over the impulses of the physical body. Jeffrey Mishlove explores the notion of subtlety or nuance. It is generally thought of as a hallmark of intellectual inquiry, i.e., an awareness of fine distinctions. It also refers to subliminal perceptions — as well as thoughts that are relegated to the subconscious or unconscious. Here Jeff looks back at the previous monologue and remarks that he is filled with the significance of the insight that “we can shift our consciousness with a single thought”. Considering that we each experience 50,000 to 70,000 thoughts a day, the potential for leveraging small shifts in awareness is tremendous. However, sometimes we are so attached that a single thought is insufficient to pull us out of a particular state. This is the problem that Jeff addresses now, referencing his experiences in 1969 as a student at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Here he describes meeting Donald Fraser Keys at the Institute for the Study of Consciousness in Berkeley, California, in the early 1990s. Keys presented Jeff with a copy of his unpublished autobiography in which he describes visionary experiences of traveling in UFOs and meeting with representatives of the Galactic Council. Keys was also the founder of an organization called Planetary Citizens and was deeply involved in the esoteric culture of the Arcane School. Jeff maintains that the best way to evaluate claims such as this is by looking for empirical evidence. He reviews James’ history with the Society for Psychical Research in England, starting in 1882. James regarded the spiritualistic hypothesis of communication between the living and the dead as worthy of and amenable to empirical testing. Toward the end of his career he came to accept the spiritualist hypothesis based on the “dramatic probability”. But, he realized that more needed to be done with regard to the accumulation of empirical data.
