Michael Grosso, PhD, is author of The Man Who Could Fly: St. Joseph of Copertino and the Mystery of Levitation. He also edited and wrote commentary for Wings of Ecstasy: Dominico Bernini’s Vita of St. Joseph of Copertino (1772). His other books include The Millennium Myth: Love and Death and the End of Time, Final Choice: Death or Transcendence?, Soulmaking: Uncommon Paths to Self Understanding and Smile of the Universe: Miracles in an Age of Disbelief. Here he acknowledges that the term “Mind At Large” originated with Aldous Huxley, who employed it to explain the many phenomena experienced under the influence of the psychedelic drug, mescaline. Grosso points out that it also offers a working explanation for the empirical data of parapsychology, as well as the many documented reports concerning religious miracles. He points out that Mind At Large differs from the concept of a deity. Jeffrey Mishlove shares many colorful illustrations of spiritual entities from Geoffrey Hodson’s book, The Kingdom of the Gods. Hodson (1886-1983) was a well-known author and lecturer on Theosophical topics. He seemed to have pronounced synesthesia talent and considered himself to be clairvoyant. He worked with scientists to investigate his clairvoyance, although the results are sketchy. He was called in by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, famous author of the Sherlock Holmes mystery stories (and also a prominent spiritualist), to assist in the investigation of photographs of ostensible fairies. Both Hodson and Conan Doyle were fooled in this instance by photographs that were clearly faked. Jeffrey Mishlove describes and life and career of the pioneering founder of the discipline of psychophysics who combined rigorous empirical science with a mystical outlook. His metaphysical writings focused on such matters as the soul life of plants as well as the soul of the living universe. He was an inspiration to William James. Both individuals argued against materialist metaphysics. New Thinking Allowed host, Jeffrey Mishlove, PhD, is author of The Roots of Consciousness, Psi Development Systems, and The PK Man. Between 1986 and 2002 he hosted and co-produced the original Thinking Allowed public television series. He is the recipient of the only doctoral diploma in “parapsychology” ever awarded by an accredited university (University of California, Berkeley, 1980). Jason Reza Jorjani, PhD, is a philosopher and author of Prometheus and Atlas, World State of Emergency, Lovers of Sophia, Novel Folklore: The Blind Owl of Sadegh Hedayat, Iranian Leviathan: A Monumental History of Mithra’s Abode, and Prometheism. Here he describes many facets associated with the archetype of Prometheus: the creator of humanity, the rebel, the trickster, the martyr, the wise titan, the visionary, and the daemonic force behind science and technology. He argues that if humanity does not become conscious of Prometheus’ mesmeric power, we will continue to blindly fall under the spell of our technological power – to our own detriment. He maintains that a deeper understanding of Prometheism is an antidote to the pitfalls of either fatalism or authoritarianism.
