Outlawing Abortion: The Start Of A More Conservative America

Over the weekend millions of women's worst fears were realised, when the US Supreme Court overturned the court case known as Roe V. Wade, which had since 1973 granted women in America a legal right to abortion. As soon as the majority of Supreme Court judges made their decision, a number of states immediately started making abortion illegal in all cases, even if the mother has been raped or the child was conceived through incest. So what happens now? The Quicky speaks to an expert in reproductive rights to find out how so many states have already managed to introduce laws making abortion illegal, and what could happen next in a country that appears from the outside to be imploding. Killing Stamp Duty & How To Make Houses Cheaper

The NSW Government recently announced a serious shake up to Stamp Duty, promising that from 2023, First Home Buyers will be able to choose between paying this up front, or paying an annual fee plus a percentage of the land value, known as land tax. But why does the government even need this money? And will the change really help those people trying to get a foot on the ladder, or should our politicians be doing more? The Quicky speaks to a would-be First Home Buyer, and a property market expert to find out what it will take to really solve the housing affordability crisis in Australia. An Invitation & An Invoice: Is Charging Wedding Guests OK?

The average Australian wedding now costs a whopping $36,000, and while for many people that amount of money is simply unobtainable, it seems more and more couples are finding new ways of raising extra cash to have the the big day of their dreams. One of those methods is an increasing trend for brides and grooms to ask friends and family to chip in for the event, to cover everything from the meal, to extravagant extras like fireworks and luxury honeymoons, but is that ok? The Quicky speaks to a wedding expert, and a couple of married women to find out whether this is fair game, or if it's a very rude way of getting other people to fund a ridiculously over the top wedding that you really can't afford. Will Sending The Biloela Family Home Encourage More Refugees?

When the Nadesalingam family recently returned to their adopted Queensland home of Biloela, there was great relief as it brought to an end a years-long nightmare for Priya, Nades and their two young daughters. But what does their happy ending mean for the thousands of people currently in detention in Australia, or who may end up there with reports suggesting that thousands more Sri Lankans are desperate to flee their homeland for a safer life? The Quicky speaks to a human rights expert to find out where Australia stands on our border policy and 'turning back the boats' under the new Labor Government, and what that means for millions of Sri Lankans who are living in turmoil. Hamish Blake, Bluey & The “Perfect” Aussie Dad Narrative

There have been a lot of popular Aussie dads on TV over the years, all of them very similar - white, grumpy and not really that involved with their kids, but now we have some more modern role models like Bandit from Bluey, and Hamish Blake. So why have they come under fire recently for perhaps not being quite as good as we like to think? And why do Aussie dads in popular culture still fit the traditional "Larrikin" stereotype? The Quicky speaks to an expert in creative arts who isn't convinced about these so-called "perfect" TV dads, to consider whether our expectations of men continue to be so much lower than that of women, that it actually makes us think they are a lot better than they really are.
