Could The US Embryos Ruling Ever Happen Here? Matildas Off To Paris With A Bang & ASIO Reveals Politician Spy
When a patient at a fertility clinic wandered into an Alabama cryogenic embryo storage room in 2020, they caused a chain of events that has left the US state's IVF sector reeling. Several embryos were destroyed when the patient dropped them. Three couples brought lawsuits against the clinic; which lead to the question: Is a frozen embryo considered a child under Alabama state law? Well, the Supreme Court of Alabama ruled that, yes, a frozen embryo is indeed a child. In this episode of The Quicky, we take a look at the implications of this High Court decision, and the likelihood of something like this happening here in our own IVF clinics. PM: Unlikely Samantha Murphy Will Be Found Alive
The Quicky evening news update for Friday February 3rd 2024. 1. Police say they are investigating if missing Victorian woman Samantha Murphy’s body has potentially been moved as they reveal it is unlikely that the 51 year old will be found alive. Ms Murphy left her Ballarat East home for a jog on the morning of February 4 and hasn’t been seen since, the detectives investigating the case saying they are keeping an open mind about her disappearance but that the most likely scenario is that it involved one or more parties, ruling out a medical episode and with nothing to indicate that she left the area on her own accord, leaving them to believe she has possibly been killed and that her body has since been relocated.. The lead detective wouldn’t say how many suspects they are currently following up but clarified that her Husband Mick was not one of them at this stage. 2. A currently serving police officer has been taken into custody after presenting himself to investigators looking into the disappearance of former channel 10 reporter Jessie Baird and his Qantas flight attendant partner Luke Davies. The 28 year old handed himself in at the Bondi police station shortly after 10:30 this morning after calls from police saying they were looking for a third person who may have information to help them unravel what has happened to the pair, neighbours reporting loud arguments in Baird’s apartment Monday night before blood stained items belonging to both Baird and Davies were found in skip at Cronulla. That discovery led police to Mr Baird’s blood stained apartment in Paddington 30 km away. Detective Superintendent Daniel Doherty said the man, who will be charged with two counts of murder, is the ex partner of Jessie Baird but that no motive has been established at this point, but that they have found a projectile that had been discharged that matched a police firearm and a white van, that is believed to have been used to transport the bodies of the two men after being hired on Monday night, has also been located although the bodies are yet to be found. 3. Deputy opposition leader Sussan Ley has called for the Prime Minister to hand over his ticket to the Taylor Swift Eras Tour, saying he’s not a real Swiftie and should give it up for a true super fan. Speaking to Seven’s Sunrise program Ley says what the PM does on his nights off is of course up to him, and if he wants to see Taylor Swift that’s cool but listening to those who couldn't get tickets ,she sent a message to Anthony Albanese to hand them over to a real Swiftie. Mr Albanese says he’s looking forward to the gig and says he's already been given a bunch of friendship bracelets to prepare for the night. 4. For the first time, the winners of the London Marathon, whether they are able bodied or not, will get equal prize money. The wheelchair category in London was already one of the highest paid purses for a marathon in the world but from this year, there will be an increase of US $54,000 to the overall prize pool with the wheelchair winners taking home $55,000, second $30,000 and third $22,000. the London marathon will be held on Sunday April 21 with three Aussies in the wheelchair category, including previous winner and defending champion Madison de Rozario The Quicky is the easiest and most enjoyable way to get across the news every day.
