Thirty four. At the time of publication that’s how many women in Australia have lost their lives to gendered violence in 2024. At the end of April hundreds of thousands of women and their allies marched in rallies across the country calling for an end to the violence. But what happens now? is there a clear path forward to ensure the safety of women and girls in Australia? Today we find out what needs to be done to stop gendered violence. Whether it be after a night out, or after we’ve dropped the car off for a service, most of us have booked a lift from a stranger through an app like Uber or Didi. But what about letting our kids ride solo in an Uber? The ride share company has just announced it’ll start allowing teens to book a trip alone in select cities across the country. Should parents be worried about their safety? Or relieved they won’t need to ferry them from activity to activity.
