The House Select Committee investigating the January 6 attack on the US Capitol is seeking phone records from telecommunications companies as part of its investigation. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told the telecommunications companies not to comply with the Congressional requests and threatened that if they did, the GOP "would not forget it" once they are in power. This is a brazen act of obstructing a congressional investigation. In a move that is deeply damaging to the credibility and legitimacy of the US Supreme Court, the Court declined to stop an unconstitutional Texas law from going into effect. The Texas authorities passed a law saying a woman can not have an abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected - at about 6 weeks of the pregnancy - which directly violates the Supreme Court precedent of Roe v. Florida Judge John C. Michigan Federal District Court Judge Linda Parker issued a scathing, 110-page opinion sanctioning nine pro-Trump lawyers for their lawsuit that was an abuse of the judicial system designed to corruptly undermine Americans' faith and confidence in the results of the 2020 presidential election. Judge Parker also directed that her opinion be provided to the state bar authorities where each lawyer is admitted to practice for investigation and possible suspension and disbarment. Two good news stories broke today on the justice front: 1. Rudy Giuliani's criminal associate, Igor Fruman, will be pleading guilty in federal court in New York on Wednesday. This spells real trouble for not only Rudy Giuliani but for Donald Trump as well. 2. The House Select Committee investigating the January 6 insurrection took steps today signaling that the committee will be subpoenaing the cell phone records of members of Congress to explore their possible complicity in the insurrection.
