After Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and his Republican legislators banned abortion in Florida after 6 weeks (at which point most women may not even know they're pregnant), 900,000 Floridians signed a petition to get abortion rights on the ballot as a constitutional amendment, designated as Amendment 4.A pro-choice group called Floridians Protecting Freedom created a TV ad supporting Amendment 4. The commercial plainly and inarguably constituted political speech protected by the First Amendment.Nevertheless, DeSantis and his henchmen issued cease and desist letters to 50 TV stations, threatening them with prosecution if they aired the pro-Amendment 4 commercial. Recent reporting makes clear that Donald Trump is proudly and enthusiastically lawless. First, he announced that if elected he will fire Special Counsel Jack Smith - the very prosecutor who is pursuing Trump in two federal criminal cases - adding that he will fire him "within two seconds" of taking office. Of course, a president can't fire a special counsel, only an Attorney General can. Trump's lawlessness is reminiscent of Richard Nixon's "Saturday Night Massacre," when he ordered several DOJ officials to fire Special Prosecutor Archibald Cox who had subpoenaed Nixon's tapes. Neither Attorney General Elliot Richardson nor Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus would follow Nixon's corrupt order. At long last, the chickens have come home to roost for disgraced Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani. A judge has ordered that the 2 Georgia state election workers Giuliani defamed, Shaye Moss and Ruby Freeman, can now seize and sell Rudy's high-priced New York condo, his luxury cars, his expensive watch collection, his sports memorabilia, and can take control of money in his bank accounts. Someone should tell Donald Trump "You know, you have the right to NOT incriminate yourself." In a recent town hall campaign event, Trump repeatedly said "We did not have guns (at the US Capitol) on January 6th". By choosing to describe the insurrectionists using the personal plural pronoun "we", Trump directly aligned himself with the folks who attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6th, there by incriminating himself (as he so often does). Interestingly, that statement is actually an incriminating twofer, given that Trump lied about his angry mob not being armed with firearms on January 6th. Trump was briefed on the morning of January 6th that members of the crowd WERE armed with firearms, to which Trump responded, "I don't care if they are armed, take down the fucking mags (metal detectors), and let my people in, they're not here to hurt me, then we can all march to the Capitol from here." Jack Smith has filed his opposition to Trump's motion to dismiss based on the Supreme Court's ruling in the Fischer case.
