Mark Charles, Native American pastor and author of the book Unsettling Truths: The Ongoing Dehumanizing Legacy of the Doctrine of Discovery with co-author Soong-Chan Rah, sits down with Tim to discuss Christian Supremacy's impact on Native Americans. Mark gives a breakdown of his background growing up in a missionary school on the Navajo Reservation and his journey to becoming a pastor on the Reservation. They break down what the Doctrine of Discovery is starting with Christopher Columbus and the Catholic Church who authorized this doctrine. Mark then shows how Protestants who initially rejected the Doctrine of Discovery because of its Catholic roots, changed course on the way to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. SynopsisBradly Mason author on the Twitter account Also A Carpenter, a friend and colleague of Dr. Nathan Cartegena and cabinet maker sits down with Tim to break down what CRT is and why it matters to understand it. Brad, explains his background as a carpenter and how he began to study CRT and began writing on his account to educate those within the Reformed Church about CRT. Tim and Brad first examine certain terms often used by those within white Evangelical spaces to criticize CRT: Critical Theory, Frankfurt School of Thought, and Critical Race Theory. Brad, points out that the Frankfurt School of Thought disagreed with aspects of Marxism and that Bell, one of the founders of CRT, disagrees with both Marx and the Frankfurt School on some aspects of systematic injustice as well. Tim and Brad then breakdown how post Civil Rights Act, disparities continued however and racial injustice no longer was accepted as the root cause. TIm and Brad then examine why the white Evangelical church finds the idea of CRT so repugnant.
