Yantras: The Creative Self & Its Expression
Creating Yantras is a traditional spiritual practice that, just like yoga and meditation, leads you to the source, to a feeling of contentment. Yantras were originally conceived over four thousand years ago in the northern regions of India. A mystical experience, a centering, comes from a meditative practice that has a spiritual focal point. Creating Yantras is a particularly powerful spiritual practice that enables you to connect your essential creative self with its expression. Working with these designs has become part of contemporary stress-reduction practices brought to us from the East along with yoga and Eastern philosophies. Sacred Yantras are made up of the following components: the bhupur (outline); circle; petals; triangle, six-pointed star, or square; and bindu (central dot). Most of these shapes are purely geometrical and relate to the cosmic laws of sacred geometry. Sacred geometry is a pre-linguistic form of communicating through basic archetypal symbols that has been used in various forms throughout civilization. It is the shapes' placement on the Yantra, centrally around the bindu, that gives the forms a magnetic charge. The elements are placed to bring your eyes from the outside to the center, mirroring the spiritual practice of harnessing the mind from its wandering tendencies to rest upon the object of perception and bring you to rest peacefully at the center of your being. The only purely non-geometric form used in the Yantras is the petal. This form is thought of as the lotus petal directing your gaze inward to the center. The petal directs the lower mind to the higher mind or consciousness. Drawing the petals freehand (with the help of the semicircular guide) can bring a feeling of connecting your personality with the Yantra. The freeform of the petals is juxtaposed with the more structural universality of the geometric shapes. This merging of natural shapes with the strictly geometric forms is a beautiful aspect of the Yantra. One of the key teachers in bringing this knowledge to the West was Sarah Tomlinson's teacher, the late, great Sri Harish Johari, see further reading for his and other notable teachers in this century. Today the practice of Yantra Painting is done mostly in the confines of one's own home as a devotional puja, an offering to a deity, to bring healing and good fortune to one's family and home. It is, largely thanks to the students of Harish Johari also becoming taught and practiced in yoga centers throughout Europe and the USA allowing this ancient art to be incorporated into the many flourishing western spiritual practices. — In this episode, Valeria interviews Sarah Tomlinson the author of Nine Designs for Inner Peace: The Ultimate Guide to Meditating with Color, Shape, and Sound And Yantra Bliss Oracle Deck Sarah Tomlinson is an internationally acclaimed Yantrika (Yantra teacher and practitioner), yoga teacher and artist, with renowned fans across the globe including Elena Brower and Sharon Gannon, co-founder of Jivamukti Yoga. Sarah worked extensively with her mentor Harish Johari in India, he initiated her into the spiritual practice of painting Yantras. Sarah is the author of Coloring Yantras, (Shambhala Publications, 2017), Nine Designs for Inner Peace, (Destiny Publishing, 2008) and creator of the Yantra Bliss Oracle Deck, (2017). Spiritual Emergency: Healing & Reconnecting
Spiritual Emergency can be seen as a crisis in connection–without resources to re-establish connection. Experiencers (we) feel less connection to "all that is", aka God, the Universe. Our dreams are chaotic and leave us disturbed on waking. We have fears we didn't used to have and imagine bad outcomes. We may wonder, i.e. "Am I crazy?" We may push others away, i.e. "Maybe they are nuts?" We long for the connection we used to have when our meditation was deep and our spiritual community very close. What drives the crisis deeper: We may be suffering fear of loss or deep loss: death of a loved one, loss of a job or role in the community…or seeing the erosion of governmental institutions designed to keep us safe and secure. Our community and inner resources for facing challenges make the difference between crisis and vast positive potential. The global pandemic has thrown many of us into this kind of loss of connection we never thought possible: cooped up home alone—or with partner and kids for months, stressed out by the irritations they present day after day, no alternative life at a workplace, none of the sweet distractions like restaurants, coffee houses, schools, concerts, religious events, and community dances that helped keep us in balance. No hugs with friends that affirmed belonging to a wider community. Masks hide others human responses at shared events contributing to less connection. The economic crisis and focus on racial prejudice and social justice erode the very foundations of connection to life as well. Resources we used to have are gone, or diminished. So, we are suffering some or maybe lots of loss of connection. But, is that all bad? Throughout the ages individuals have paid dearly to go on retreat…to isolate themselves from society. They deliberately let go of the known for a period of time—even consider that of value. Why? To reconnect with their God. To take their spiritual practices deeper via more meditation, prayer, and scriptural study. To focus more fully on yoga, Tai Chi, or specific movements that bring more peace and harmony. To revitalize by connecting with nature and animals without distraction. To re-evaluate their direction in life and seek vision for next steps. If we value the isolation we look at it this way: Time to immerse in close relationships like family can restore and deepen bonds. A trusting relationship with a mentor or counselor can restore an acceptance with and care of oneself…just as a pastoral or spiritual counselor can help inspire one's connection to the spiritual realms. – writes Dr. Emma Bragdon — Valeria interviews Dr. Emma. She is the Executive Director of Integrative Mental Health for You, IMHU.org. They offer 34 online courses aimed at helping individuals have optimal mental health. Dr Bragdon has been a pioneer in the field of "Spiritual Emergency"--crises that are associated with personal evolution. She was licensed as a psychotherapist in 1988 and has a private practice online and in Vermont. Awakening Your Hero's Journey
Kat Tansey began work on the Hero's Journey in 2015 when she came to the realization that she had been writing and teaching about it for all these years, telling stories and creating courses to help people succeed in a variety of Hero's Journeys. But she had not actually taught them about the Hero's Journey itself. Kat saw that this was a bit like the give a man a fish story. She had been giving them a fish instead of teaching them how to fish. It was time to teach them about the Hero's Journey. Kat's first step for this latest version of Awakening Your Hero's Journey has been to make it a guided online course and connect it to a Discussion Center where people can join a group for each stage of the journey and learn from each other's experiences in that stage. Awakening to Your Hero's Journey is now also part of her new, bigger vision, The Resilient Hero Program. Valeria interviews Kat Tansey. Kat is an award-winning author and innovative educator who believes in the power of a well-told tale to teach while it entertains. An inspirational teacher, Kat spent her early career training thousands of people and consulting with over fifty corporations to help them meet the challenges of change. Her first book, written as a novel, was Winning the Change Game. The book reflected on the lessons Kat learned from twenty years in the corporate world as a training and change management consultant, and featured Alexander Hamilton, who was instrumental in the ratification of the U.S. Constitution, as the change guru. Kat's second book, Choosing to Be: Lessons in Living from a Feline Zen Master, is the story of her journey from deep depression to emotional wellness after she was struck down by Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in the early 90's. Choosing to Be has been awarded the Independent Publisher's Bronze Medal, and has been highly praised by people like Thom Hartmann, distinguished radio commentator and lifelong meditator, who said it is one of the best books on meditation he has ever read. The illustrious Findhorn Press in Scotland picked up the rights to Choosing to Be and released a new, 2nd edition in September 2010. Kat spent much of 2009 researching insomnia to resolve her own sleep issues, and then created an ebook titled: Insomnia Relief Recipes to educate people with insomnia issues about the science of sleep and teach them how to become confident sleepers without using drugs. Empowering and promoting women has always been a significant part of Kat's journey, and she focuses that passion toward collecting the wisdom of midlife women. Her weekly talk show, Finding Magic in Midlife, allows her to interview and discuss in-depth, lessons learned from a wide variety of accomplished and well-known midlife women. Kat is building an archive of these interviews and plans to develop a series of programs to pass this wisdom on to current and future generations of women. In early 2010, Kat collaborated with her good friend Dave Carpenter to produce the highly praised e-book, Prospering in 2010. They have also created an exciting subscription series of webinars, Prospering in 2010: Embracing Change to Accelerate Success, which people can join any time during the year. Kat has a BA in English from Mary Washington College in Virginia and an MBA from Pepperdine University in California. She lives in Ojai, California with her partner, Greg, and enjoys taking long walks where she develops dialogues for her next book. Healing With Magnetic Fields
All energy is electromagnetic in nature, and nothing happens in the body without an electromagnetic exchange between cells. We are all familiar with the electrocardiogram (EKG) and electroencephalograph (EEG) tests, which measure the electromagnetic activity of the heart and brain, respectively. When electromagnetic activity ceases, life ceases. Electromagnetic energy controls our chemistry. Disruption of this energy in cells causes impaired cell metabolism, and if our cells are not healthy, our body is not healthy, in whole or in part. A changing magnetic field (such as a magnetic field moving through a coil) generates an electric field (which would drive a current in the coil). This forms the basis for many electrical generators and motors. Similar to the way that a changing magnetic field generates an electric field, a changing electric field generates a magnetic field. Since the magnetic field is being generated by an electric current, it's called an electromagnetic field – a physical field produced by moving electrical charges. PEMF stands for Pulsed Electromagnetic Field. Magnetic fields affect the behavior of any other charged objects in the vicinity of the field. This is the fundamental basis for their therapeutic use. Our bodies are electric – every heartbeat generates electromagnetic waves throughout the blood vessels of the body, stimulating tissues at a cellular level. External magnetic fields and the normal electric and electromagnetic fields produced by the body interact. So, a magnetic field passing through our whole body will have an electromagnetic effect on each of our 70 trillion cells. As a result, magnetic fields act in basic and fundamental ways on molecules and tissues. They affect the most basic functions of all cells—human, animal, and plant included. — Valeria interviews Dr. William Pawluk to discuss the many ways in which PEMFs can enhance our health and wellbeing. William Pawluk, MD, MSc is a holistic doctor near Baltimore, MD. Previous academic positions at Johns Hopkins and University of Maryland. Training: acupuncture, nutrition, herbals, energy medicine, homeopathy, hypnosis, bodywork, and multiple other therapies. Considered the foremost authority on the use of Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy in North America. Interested especially in holistic pain management, regenerative health, stem cell stimulation, anti-aging, sleep and anxiety. Host of the Pain Solution Summit. PainSolutionSummit.com. His main emphasis is using PEMFs as a new solution for stubborn, chronic and frustrating health problems. He strives to try to resolve the cause of the problem and not to simply put a Band-Aid on it. Most conventional treatments for pain rely on "numbing and dumbing," that simply make the perception of pain better but don't heal the cause. When on the Dr. Oz show, they both agreed that pain management should be focused on healing the cause. After 25 years of seeing the risks and side effects of traditional health solutions and approaches, and after studying various healing approaches, he discovered that PEMFs provide the most benefit and allowed safe, non-toxic, self-directed, self-controlled, at-home pain management. In his professional journey Dr. Pawluk has worked with magnetic field therapies for 30 years and established an authoritative website DrPawluk.com. He has authored a comprehensive book on healing with magnetic fields called "Power Tools for Health." This book describes what magnetic fields are, over 25 actions of magnetic fields in the body, how they work for over 50 health conditions, not just pain, how to get the right PEMF device and how to use it. The Secrets of Spiritual Growth
Life itself is like a river. The "life-force" that God has breathed into creation, flows like a river. Think of how a river flows. It is not like a man-made, artificial canal or aqueduct that goes in a straight line. It meanders and changes direction. It responds to the rest of the topography. It flows AROUND large rocks so that it keep on flowing—yet over time also wears away those rocks, which changes the direction of the river again. There are times it is still and calm, and other times there are waterfalls or rapids. It's not like a straight highway. You are never really sure of what is around the next bend until you get there. Life is like that. We cannot know everything that life will bring our way. We can chart a course, but the river of life takes unexpected turns and goes through white water rapids at times. At other times our life is smooth sailing and all is calm. But it isn't just the circumstances of life that change (the scenery that we pass while sailing down the river)—it is also our faith, beliefs, and experience of God that will change over time (the currents in the water that are unseen by others), and that can rock our boat as well. Life happens, and it isn't all planned. It takes unexpected turns, and not everyone understands that. Life is like a river. And it isn't just the outside scenery that changes, it's the direction and strength of the currents in the water as well—it's our beliefs and our experience of God. — writes Martin Valeria interviews Martin Trench the author of Secrets of Spiritual Growth: Discovering where you are— and what comes next— on your journey of faith. Originally from Scotland, Martin Trench and his family moved to Canada almost 12 years ago where Martin is the Lead Pastor of Gateway Alliance Church, an innovative and growing church in Edmonton, Alberta. Martin is an author, a popular inspirational speaker, a Bible teacher, and he consults with other churches and leaders, coaching them on spiritual health, church growth, and spiritual innovation. Mandala: The Circle Of Life
"Mandala" is a Sanskrit word that means "circle". Mandalas generally have one center point, from which emanates an array of symbols, shapes and forms. Many tribes throughout North America also used mandalas as ways to connect with the gods. These were often circular forms made from the skins of animals that were hunted, and incorporated feathers and other found objects. Native Americans believed that the Mandala represents: The circle of life, and the path from birth to death The unification of man, nature, and the spiritual in a cyclical form A way to connect with the creators While mandalas are used as physical forms of design in many Native tribes, the circular pattern is also essential to ceremonial practices and rituals. It is found in many dances, both in individual movements and as a greater movement around a central point, often a fire or important figure. Drawing and coloring a mandala can be a highly enriching personal experience in which you look inside yourself and find the shapes, colors and patterns to represent anything from your current state of mind to your most deeply-desired wish for yourself, for a loved one, or for humanity. You can design a mandala to symbolize a state of mind that you would like to achieve. Mandalas are great tools for meditation and increasing self- awareness. Many different cultures around the world use mandalas in their spiritual practices. The best thing about designing your own mandala is that you have the freedom to choose whatever shapes and colors that you feel express your sense of self and your view of reality. Your mandala is yours, and you have the freedom to use your creativity to create a mandala drawing that is uniquely you. ~ Writes Monika For Monika's Mandala Art Course, please visit: https://mandala.colouryourdream.co.uk/courses/ — Valeria interviews Monika Cilmi. Intuitive Healing And Joy
We are all on a spiritual journey. To Dr. Carolle Jean-Murat, admitting you have a soul and then taking care of it leads to spiritual health. How do you take care of it? Find whatever you call a higher power, and lay your ego at its feet. This will free your soul and allow you to have faith and trust in something bigger than yourself. It will give you a broader perspective on life and the lessons we are here to learn. Having faith, as well as learning how to take care of yourself, having healthy boundaries in all areas of your life, practicing forgiveness, giving from your heart, and having a connection with nature will lighten your stress, your sorrows, and your heart. Put some time aside each day to pray, read a good book, or study your favorite scripture. These days, family members do not spend time together and are separated by TV, computers, video games, smartphones, and social media. When possible, pray with family members. It has been proven to be beneficial for all involved. Family members who pray together tend to communicate with each other better and have the ability to resolve small issues before they take on a life of their own. Be grateful for everything that happens to you because these experiences, good or bad, happen for a reason and teach you something. Upon awaking every morning, give thanks for being alive. This planet is a huge schoolroom—anything that happens can be transformed into something positive by your spiritual beliefs, thoughts, and deeds. Know deep in your heart that you will be taken care of, no matter what. Dr. Carolle no longer fret about what should or should not be happening. She knows that all things unfold in divine order, that adversities are lessons she is supposed to learn for her own good, and you do not always get what you ask for when you ask for it. That morning in November 2014 when she awoke totally healed after surrendering control and asking God for help has really deepened her faith. Dr. Carolle truly knows in her heart that regardless of the adversity, with faith she will overcome it. Believe, surrender, trust, and always have faith. — Valeria interviews Dr. Carolle Jean-Murat, the author of Heal Your Life: 25 Ways to Unleash Your Innate Healing Powers by Finding Your Purpose and Connecting With a Higher Power. Dr. Carolle Jean-Murat is a board-certified OB-GYN, and a primary care specialist. Born and raised in Haiti, she comes from a family of healers, shamans, herbalists, and midwives. She was educated in top universities in Haiti, Mexico, Jamaica, and the US, giving her a broad-spectrum approach to medicine and invaluable multicultural knowledge. She had a successful private practice in San Diego, California from 1982 to 2005.She is a gifted medical intuitive and spiritual healer who has helped thousands over the past four decades from all walks of life. In 2000 Dr. Carolle suffered severe burnout and had to re-invent herself. She has worked with under-privileged patients in dire conditions, even performing surgeries by flashlight in Haiti. She has also practiced medicine in highly acclaimed, technologically advanced hospitals in the U.S., helping thousands of men and women, including wounded warriors suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and military sexual trauma (MST). In 2005, she closed her private practice in San Diego because she could no longer fit into a prescription-writing, bottom-line-oriented medical system that did not allow time and resources for doctors to properly care for patients as whole human beings. She would not compromise. Her dream was to continue treating and healing patients, using her own ideals. She created the Dr. Carolle's Healing Sanctuary of San Diego, where those who were ill or suffering could spend as much time as they needed with her. Fluent in five languages, Dr. Carolle combines her scientific knowledge with her extraordinary gift of intuition and clairvoyance to help those who are ready to heal. Her process helps to discover the root cause of patients' symptoms and teaches them how to use this information to begin the healing process. With faith and caring she guides patients and shows them their strengths, teaches them how to let go, and simultaneously helps them overcome the obstacles that have prevented them from being their best self. Waking Up To Our Potential
Valeria interviews Jessica Keats, the author Flow: The Beginning Is Upon Us. The premise of her book is a time far, far away. A time when life was much simpler and the process of life was easy. We are currently experiencing moments where we briefly remember this time and then the cloud of what life has become is rolled over us again. It is a time period we are beginning to know could be possible for our future. There was a time, a time when the world was in Flow. We were at the height of who we are as a creation. The universe surrounded us, held us and together we moved forward. This time period was built on Flow and each of us lived our daily lives in Flow. We listened to guidance and followed that guidance precisely. There was great abundance and everyone had what was meant for them. We worked from a place of purpose and accomplished amazing things together and on our own. In fact, we were so much a part of Flow it became a part of us and there was no way to distinguish the difference. We were Flow and Flow was us and because of this we experienced true ecstasy. A change occurred. We got caught and the ease of Flow broke. Once it broke it continued to break and we slowly but surely fell out of Flow and into Struggle. Struggle, figuring it out on our own, making it work, working hard, pushing forward. The ease was gone and the Struggle began and we quickly forgot about Flow. Generation after generation was born and each remembered less and less about Flow and about our true way of existence. Jessica's book is a gift to help us remember. A gift to help us find Flow again. A gift to wake us up to our potential and to lessen the fear and misunderstanding we have created. Jessica Keats is an International Healer, Intuitive and Medium consulting with individuals and businesses to increase and maximize their potential. Known for her ability to make profound change in a person's mind, body and soul within 2-3 sessions, Jessica is renowned for healing limiting beliefs, fears and past traumas so her clients improve physically and emotionally while reaching new heights professionally.
