We're back, and we're taking on a very hot topic, even among libertarians. Should businesses be allowed to require vaccination. Check out the YouTube clip from this episode: https://youtu.be/LpsgOz18qtM In this episode we did about 10-15 minutes of catching up when we started. I know that that's annoying, but it's our first show in over 2 weeks thanks to both Nate & Chuck having Covid. We focused mainly on the question of businesses requiring that their customers show proof of vaccination. This was based mainly on the scenario playing out in Florida, where Governor Ron DeSantis had originally banned cruise lines from requiring vaccination. Norwegian Cruise Lines recently won a battle against the state in court, where a judge has ruled that they can require vaccination. This is not as hard to figure out as it sounds. As a principled individual, you can disagree with someone's actions, but defend their right to do it. In this case, we don't agree with the cruise lines, but we do support their right to require proof of vaccination from their customers. Why do we support this? Because we don't own the boat. It's as simple as that. Businesses have the right to discriminate. They have the right to do, or not do business with anyone they choose. I can disagree with their choice, but once again, I do not own the boat. More importantly, the government does not own the boat. Since the government does not own the boat, how can the government decide the requirements set by the owner as to who can purchase a ticket? I simply do not understand how this is a contested idea inside of the libertarian world. You own yourself. You own the fruits of your labor, and you own your property. Author, speaker and former Sheriff Richard Mack has served in a wide variety of roles over the course of his nearly twenty year career in law enforcement, which began in Provo, Utah. After 11 years at Provo PD, Mack decided to return to his childhood turf in Arizona and run for Graham County Sheriff. His campaign took off and he was elected in 1988. During his tenure, federal officers informed the sheriffs of the state that they would be required to enforce the so-called "Brady Bill" and run background checks at their expense under the law. In 1994, Mack and six other sheriffs from across the country, challenged the constitutionality of the Brady Bill and ultimately, fought it all the way to the United States Supreme Court, where they won a monumental decision for freedom. Three years later, in a landmark 5-4 split decision based on the Tenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, Mack won his case. He has also been named Elected Official of the Year by the Arizona-New Mexico Coalition of Counties in 1994, received the NRA Law Officer of the Year, inducted into the NRA Hall of Fame, 1995 Cicero Award, Samuel Adams Leadership Award from the Local Sovereignty Coalition, and Gun Owners of America Defender of the Second Amendment Award. He was sheriff for two terms until 1997. Sheriff Mack currently teaches, consults and empowers people around the country and around the world. She was previously the party's nominee for vice president in the 1996 U.S. presidential election, as Harry Browne's running mate. She is a full-time lecturer of psychology at Clemson University. Personal Note: Sorry we haven't recorded a new episode this week. Nate & Charlie both have CoVid! Nate is now at 6 consecutive days with a fever >100. We will survive, but forcing an episode right now is not the best thing to do. Luckily we just recorded 17 interviews at FreedomFest last week. Our friend Rob Chatfield was at FreedomFest last week premiering FTCN's new documentary "Corporate Welfare: Wheres the Outrage?" As you may know, we here at GML are not fans of the "Corporate Welfare" narrative. Is it unfair? Of course... But where does that unfairness begin? If we believe that "Taxation is Theft," then we believe that the government has no claim to the money it takes through force. How can we hold that belief, and then call it "welfare" when the amount of theft is reduced? Anyway, we had a long talk with Rob about it. Charlie threw out is best (in the moment) analogies, and Rob easily knocked them down. It made for a fun conversation regardless! It's unlikely that either of us swayed from our original stance, but we talked through our differences and still came out friends in the end. Turns out it is possible in 2021 to have a major policy difference and still remain civil...who woulda known? Robert Chatfield serves as President and Chief Executive Officer of Free To Choose Network (FTCN), a global media organization. How the heck we ever met/became friends with him is a mystery to us. We've been watching "Free to Choose" for quite a long time, and it's truly an honor to meet and discuss great topics with Rob.
