#306 JD Salinger - The Eloquent Recluse

JD Salinger - The Eloquent Recluse Smithsonian Associates, Interview Series Welcome to the Not Old Better Show, I'm your host Paul Vogelzang, and this is episode number 306. As part of our Smithsonian Associates, Art of Living, series, we are going to be talking about one of my favorite authors, JD Salinger, and our guests today are Daniel Stashower & Scott Sedar. Daniel Stashower is a well known author of history, and Scott Sedar, an actor, who will read selections from JD Salinger's most celebrated works. This show and interview are a treat for me as JD Salinger, and Catcher in the Rye, are all time favorites of mine. Ever since my freshman year of high school, when the book, Catcher in the Rye was suggested to me by my mother, who was an English teacher, I have been infatuated with it. I remember reading it, and re-reading it, I think 6 times, even over the summer months, between freshman and sophomore year of HS. The novel follows a boy, Holden Caulfield, who has an issue with growing up and the loss of innocence. Needless to say, I could relate, as many of us in the Not Old Better Show audience can relate. I love author JD Salinger and his book, Catcher in the Rye, so much because I find beauty in the idea of preserving innocence and appreciating the moments. Not that I hope to be Holden Caulfield (he clearly does not seem to have the perfect life yet who does), but rather I wish I had the same ideals and perspective (of perceiving innocence in everything, and living in the present). We'll talk about that today, innocence, and much more, including whether Holden Caulfield and JD Salinger are really one and the same. Please join me in welcoming to The Not Old Better Show, Daniel Stashower and Scott Sedar, who'll be presenting at Smithsonian Associates program, January 7, 2019, JD Salinger, The Eloquent Recluse. #305 Heart Disease Survivor - Hank Plain

Heart Disease Survivor - Hank Plain The Not Old Better Show, Interview Series Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, I'm Paul Vogelzang and this is episode #305 brought to you by HeartFlow. As part of our Art of Living series, today's show is specifically for those in the Not Old Better Show audience interested in knowing more about the heart, and what the Center for Disease Control has determined is the cause of 1 in every 4 deaths in the United States: coronary artery disease. Coronary Artery Disease is the most common type of heart disease…it is the leading cause of death in the US in both men and women, about 735,000 Americans have a heart attack, and over 610,000 people die of heart disease in the United States, again, according to the Center for Disease Control. We have some answers for you today, and our guest, Mr. Hank Plain, is going to tell you his heart disease story. And, by the way, Hank Plain, who has family history of heart disease, thought he was doing all the right things to prevent heart disease. Hank Plain's story has a very happy ending, as Hank and his physicians used the only test on Hank that was truly definitive in defining both the amount of Hank Plain's blockage in his coronary arteries and the actual blood flow restriction. We're going to hear from Hank Plain in just a moment, but I want to emphasize the importance of Hank's story, message and the degree of education available to you about this high mortality condition. Further, we've been given an excellent brochure from HeartFlow, the actual diagnostic test that Hank Plain received, to better educate you all about questions, details and concerns you may have with respect to Coronary Artery Disease. Links to the downloadable brochure will be in today's show notes, or you can email me at info@notold-better.com, and I'll make sure you get one, but please if you're at risk, unsure of your risk, or want to know for a family member, take the next step in a treatment plan that has "demonstrated higher diagnostic performance compared to other non-invasive cardiac tests." That's according to published data, which we'll also link to, HERE> https://hfdc-corpweb.s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/assets/docs/HF-3720_PatientBrochure-PGbyPG_Coated-FINAL_2017Jul12/HF-3720_PatientBrochure-PGbyPG_Coated-FINAL_2017Jul12.html For more information about today's show, please check out: https://notold-better.com Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! #304 Traveler's Diarrhea - Holiday Travel Tips

Traveler's Diarrhea - Holiday Travel Tips Food & Travel Interview Series... Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, I'm Paul Vogelzang and this is episode #304, sponsored by Travelan. As part of our Food & Travel Interview Series, today's show is for our Not Old Better Show audience on the move this holiday season, and beyond. In today's show, we'll be joined by Travis Robins, in his role as Director of US Sales for Immuron, the maker of Travelan, the natural supplement that prevents diarrhea from ruining your season's travel plans. If you've ever encountered a stomach bug while traveling either in US or outside, you know it can quickly cut a trip short, and make for an urgent out of town, or out of country medical visit, and visits, either on the other side of the world, or on the other side of the state your visiting. Travis Robins is here to talk about the preventive effects of Travelan, but to also offer general health tips to avoid what's known as TD, traveler's diarrhea, high risk countries to consider planning ahead for use of Travelan, and some of the Travelan technology. As I say, Travelan generously sponsored today's show, but they left the editorial questions and direction to me, knowing we'd want a show with education and information, but when we find a great product, we share it with our Not Old Better community. I should point out that Travelan is approved by regulatory agencies and it has passed rigorous US Army tests of efficacy and treatment value. Because the holidays are upon us, and because we'll be off seeing relatives, grandchildren, and our families who may be scattered, like mine, all over the globe, many of us will be traveling. I want you to do so safely, comfortably, and with as little interruption as possible. I think you'll value this interview with Travis Robins, and most importantly be introduced to a new soluation to a very old problem. Please join me in welcoming to the Not Old Better Show, Travis Robins. For more information, links, resources and details, please click here> https://www.travelanusa.com/ And, here> is a free scientific research paper on the efficacy of Travelan: https://www.immuron.com.au/assets/files/Travelan%20Scientific%20Review%20AU.pdf The Not Old Better Show, Talk About Better® https://notold-better.com Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast!
