The Work Reveals Itself as You Go - Dan Reynolds, Imagine Dragons | Behind the Brand Snapshot

"The Work Reveals Itself as You Go..."I just finished Rick Rubin’s new book called The Creative Act. It’s a book on his process and his methods. If you don’t know Rick Rubin, he’s one of the most prolific music producers on the planet — taking the good work and making it better for talent like The Beastie Boys, AC/DC, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, Tom Petty, Weezer, Linkin Park, Neil Diamond, Metallica, Shakira, — almost the entire A-list music industry including Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons. Dan reveals his music making process as well as gets really vulnerable about why his music is so personal. You’re going to love this one. This is a Behind the Brand snapshot…a moment in time from a full-length episode that I thought is worth a your attention and focus. As always, my goal is to be your eyes and ears to single out the nuggets that will help you build your brand on a personal or professional level. And before we get into it, I’m taking roll call. Are you here? If I’ve brought you any value at any time I have one request. Please take 7 seconds and leave a review with a few comments and feedback. Reviews actually benefit you because the more we have, the more it signals the algorithm and THIS helps us attract the A-List guests you want to learn from. Ready. Set. Building a Flywheel Business: The Incredible Story of Momentous | CEO, Jeff Byers | Podcast series / Marketing

Sometimes the riskiest thing to do is play it safe. This is the incredible story and rise of the Momentous brand. 2016 was a remarkable year as four very different people headed down four very separate paths that in just a few short years would intersect in the most serendipitous way. Each person was at a different stage of life and experience but started to crank what bestselling author Jim Collins calls a flywheel. There was a young and recently retired NFL player, turned entrepreneur. A media mogul who started a VC firm. A high school student with a big idea. And last but not least, there was a former Bay Area Grom, who spent time in a youth detention center as a teen, but turned is life around with a passion for teaching science. In 2016 he would transfer from San Diego State to a new position at Stanford University.Collins writes, “No matter how dramatic the end result, good-to-great transformations never happen in one fell swoop. In building a great company there is no single defining action, no grand program, no one killer innovation, no solitary lucky break, no miracle moment. Rather, the process resembles relentlessly pushing a giant, heavy flywheel, turn upon turn, building momentum until a point of breakthrough, and beyond.”Special thanks to our sponsor Plunge!Introducing the all-new Plunge All-In! How to Be a Better Critical Thinker in Life & Business | Neil deGrasse Tyson

When I was a kid growing up in the 80s and 90s, one of my favorite shows, playing on repeat in reruns, was the Twilight Zone created by Rod Serling. It was a well written show where characters find themselves dealing with “disturbing or unusual events” that usually ended with an unexpected plot twist and moral to the story for everyone to ponder as food for thought. We are living in interesting times to say the least — it kind of feels like a Twilight Zone episode sometimes and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to know what is true and what is fiction. As a kid, the show was one of my first exposures to the idea of critical thinking, which by definition means, “the objective analysis and evaluation of an issue in order to form a judgment.” But critical thinking alone doesn’t always get us to the truth. And it turns out that humans are not naturally born with the gift of being objective. We really have to work at it. To think critically, we must be aware of our own biases and assumptions — and then apply consistent standards when considering the sources. Sources are tricky too. I remember a time when I believed what I saw on the news. Believed that doctors got into medicine just to help people. Believed that my religion was God’s true church on Earth and my church leaders upheld the highest standards of honesty and would never lie or do harm to anyone. This episode with Neil deGrasse Tyson is NOT about trying to break your shelf or dissuade you from your deeply held beliefs. It’s about learning more about critical thinking and the scientific method so you can figure out what is real and what fiction. To be a seeker of truth and not be caught up in the trap of group-think.I have only recently rediscovered one of the most credible sources of truth and light, has been within me all along. And if I had any advice, I think that’s a pretty good place to start.Special thanks to our sponsor Plunge!Introducing the all-new Plunge All-In!
