Luke Pate from Frameworks
Episode 218 - Luke Pate is the vocalist for the hardcore band Frameworks and is on the show this week. We dive deep into the city of Gainsville and their incredible indie music scene, unplanned “success” and the expectations that come with it as well as the connection to the real world when you are off tour and not living the day to day existence in the band. It’s a shorter chat, but definitely worth your time. Consider being a Bone Marrow donor, like me. Join the registry today.Try Soylent today and get 50% off of your first case, with a subscription. Lee Overtree from The Story Pirates
Episode 217 - Do you like improv comedy? How about theatre? Well I love both of these things and was excited to speak to Lee Overtree, who is the creative director behind Story Pirates in New York City. His program takes stories written by kids and turns them into stage shows/radio plays. Lee also has a history within independent music and was influenced heavily by the DIY emo/punk scene. It’s what I like to call one of my favorite “secret punk” episodes in which a person who isn’t necessarily doing anything that you’d immediately define as punk, but under the surface is completely punk. We discuss how his life was changed by Jon Stewart (yes, THE John Stewart), making art for kids and the DIY mentality. Use our Amazon Affiliate Code to support the show! Andy Othling from Lowercase Noises
One of the more introspective and interesting conversations on the podcast I have ever had with Andy Othling from Lowercase Noises. He is a one man band from Albuquerque, New Mexico and his music is beautiful, haunting and trance inducing. After getting to know him a bit, I knew he’d be a great guest for the show and he did not disappoint. We speak in depth about solitude, computer science and the creative process. I urge you to listen to this episode as we go down roads that I think many people would be able to relate with. Enjoy! Thomas Pearson from Foundation
Episode 215 - Foundation was one of my favorite hardcore bands in recent years, so I was very much looking forward to speaking to Thomas Pearson, the vocalist of said band. We hopped on Skype one afternoon and had a great discussion about the Atlanta hardcore scene, the process of being a teacher and frankly, why independent music is the best. While I am sad the band is no longer, they left a great legacy in their recorded music. Listen and enjoy! Vinnie Caruana from The Movielife & I Am The Avalanche
Vinnie Caruana is my new best friend. We had such an awesome time chatting for the show I didn’t want to let him go at the end of our hour. He’s best known for being the singer of bands like The Movielife & I Am The Avalanche but also has an incredibly prolific solo output as well. We discussed Long Island hardcore, corporate songwriting and the early touring years of his life. As Vinnie states towards the end of the show, “Memory lane is a good place to visit”. Jesse Leach from Killswitch Engage
Episode 211 - Jesse Leach has always fascinated me. As the singer of Killswitch Engage I found his lyrics to be positive and uplifting in ways that most metal bands didn’t embrace and I loved it. I hop in the bands tour bus and pick his brain about anxiety, showing your roots and ultimately finding comfort. It’s a very special conversation that I am pleased to bring you. She is the lead vocalist and guitarist for the Montreal based indie rock band. As you can hear from the chat, her and I have known about each other for awhile but finally were able to connect for this great discussion.
