2024-09-19 | Z-patriots are having a meltdown, because, once more things are going boom in Russia. And this time, it’s big. It’s huge in fact. Not only do we find out what it looks like to ignite roughly 30,000 tons of munitions, we get to see so-called Russian patriots lose their minds over how their government fails to protect strategically significant military sites over and over. ---------- The ecosystem of patriotic channels, that nonetheless must exist within the restrictions defined by the Russian regime, have been howling all morning and saying that Russia's defeat is almost inevitable. This is real hysteria, born of rage, frustration and fear. What really rubs salt into the wounds, is that it is clearly Ukrainians achieving this with their own weapons. Propagandists can try to pin it on NATO, but this really does not wash any more, given that it’s plain for all to see how timid, cautious and slow Western support really is. Everyone knows that for now, there is a ‘soft appeasement’ in place, meaning that western weapons cannot be used against airbases and launch sites that continue to rain death upon Ukrainian people. The 107th Arsenal of the Main Missile and Artillery Directorate of Russian armed forces was hit by drones. This may be the biggest blow to a Russian ammunition depot during the entire course of the war and resulted in an explosion that was visible from space. The fire engulfed the entire territory of the arsenal. The warehouses could store up to 30,000 tons of various ammunition – which does not mean that it was stocked to capacity when hit. We just don’t know how much stuff was onsite at the time. But munitions it could have contained, include 122 mm rocket munitions for Grad and 82 mm mortar shells. Missiles for S-300 and S-400, and for Iskanders could have been stored at the arsenal. A stock of North Korean KN 23 may also have been stored at this site. The brutal crackdown that followed shocked the international community: the authorities arrested tens of thousands of citizens, shut down independent media and NGOs, and fomented a migrant crisis on the European Union's border. But where many thought Belarus's dictator, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, would fall, he instead turned to Moscow for support, intensifying repression. Many of his opponents fled the country. 2024-09-16 | Russia has received new ballistic projectiles from Iran, prompting the US and Europe to impose new sanctions. The supply of weapons by Iran to its ally Russia has major implications and ought to place a greater burden on allies to protect Ukraine, but are they doing anything meaningful, apart from the usual condemnations and reiterations of ‘unenforced’ red lines. ---------- Russia has received new and highly deadly ballistic weapons from Iran and is likely to use them in Ukraine said the US secretary of state, Antony Blinken. This statement was made during his trip to London last Tuesday, as he prepared to travel with UK foreign secretary, David Lammy, to Kyiv. An announcement on long range weapons for Ukraine to counter this threat was expected, but never came. Iran’s supply of weapons is a genuine escalation of the conflict. Ukraine’s defense of its sovereign territory usually gets accused of escalation, but what Iran and China are doing is the real escalation of the conflict, and the West’s reaction is dithering and timidity once again. It’s thought that these new munitions may have huge significance to the battlefield balance ahead of the winter, which of course is intense in this part of the world. The US and Europe have imposed new sanctions on Iran, but these have not had any deterrent impact either on Russia’s aggression of Iran’s close support of its ally. Pressure is building on the US to end its restrictions on Ukraine using British-supplied Storm Shadows to strike targets deep inside Russia and not just in occupied parts of Ukraine. But so far, the Biden administration has stubbornly refused to relent, showing them in the same light as Scholz’s dogmatic intransigence around the Taurus system. When asked about a decision, Blinken defers and obfuscates, citing Ukraine’s ability to maintain the systems, training and their strategic purpose. 2024-09-13 | According to Putin and his minions, NATO countries are on the brink of war with Russia. Is this more hollow bluffing and bluster from the diminutive tyrant in the Kremlin, or are we about to cross the first genuine Russian red line of this war? Evidence points to it being another empty threat, if we ignore the threatening words and look at Russia’s actions and capabilities. ---------- The first action based was for Russia’s FSB security service to revoke the accreditation of six British diplomats in reaction to a widely held belief that use of British Storm Shadows will be authorised for use on the territory of Russia. These Moscow based personnel have been accused of spying and sabotage work. Six diplomats were named on Russian state TV, and photographs of them shown. As we already know, Russian propagandists love to position the British as their core enemy, the “main bastards”, and see British plotting as instrumental in pulling Washington away from its cautious ‘escalation management’ policies towards taking a harder line against Russia, and in support of a Ukrainian victory. Delusional, paranoid maybe, but this seems to be the thinking of the war-addicted elite in Russian media and policy making circles. Vladimir Putin said that a western move to let Kyiv use longer-range weapons against targets inside Russia would effectively mean NATO is “at war” with Moscow. It is known that US and UK diplomats are discussing easing rules on firing western weapons into Russia. Kyiv has been pressing for this change in policy for many months now, and indeed it makes no military sense at all to restrict Ukraine for firing back on the airfields and launch sites that deliver death and trauma to Ukrainian civilians daily.
