Episode 444: Movie News LIVE!, Irish Wish review

We have a wee pop-in for you here at Breakfast All Day on this Friday before St. Patrick's Day. Alonso and Christy review "Irish Wish," the latest Netflix rom-com starring Lindsay Lohan. This time, the Lohanaissance takes us to picturesque Ireland, and we were surprisingly charmed. But first we begin with a jam-packed live news segment, in which we discuss Jonathan Glazer, new movies from Ari Aster and Yorgos Lanthimos (both of which star Emma Stone), "The Bear" seasons 3 and 4, the death of World Party founder Karl Wallinger and more. And for our Patreon subscribers, a recap of the "Feud: Capote vs. The Swans" finale. Thanks for sharing your time and enthusiasm with us! * If you haven't checked out Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter, now is a great time. It comes out every Saturday -- hence the name -- and contains goodies you won't get anywhere else. You can read, subscribe and share here: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/

Episode 441: Movie News LIVE!, Kung Fu Panda 4 With Kristian Harloff, Love Lies Bleeding With Katie Walsh

Great friends stopped by the latest episode of Breakfast All Day to help out when Alonso was feeling under the weather, and for that we're thankful. The always entertaining Kristian Harloff sits in on a review of "Kung Fu Panda 4," and tries to help Christy find some inner peace on this needless, noisy sequel. The brilliant Katie Walsh was the perfect friend to review "Love Lies Bleeding," a lurid lesbian romance starring Kristen Stewart and Katy O'Brian. Alonso rallied for Movie News LIVE!, though, with some final thoughts on this weekend's Oscars, "Inside Out 2," the "Rust" shooting verdict and more. And for our Patreon subscribers, we recap this week's emotional penultimate episode of "Feud: Capote vs. The Swans." * Speaking of Oscar night, join Christy for her LIVE watch party over at our YouTube channel. This is a vertical livestream, so it'll show up in your shorts feed, but you can watch it on your phone or computer. The Academy Awards begin early this year at 4pm Pacific time, so meet up here around 345pm. Episode 440: 2024 Oscar Predictions LIVE! With LA Times Awards Expert Glenn Whipp

Grab your ballot and join us for Oscar predictions! This was a super fun YouTube livestream Christy did with the great Glenn Whipp, veteran awards columnist for the Los Angeles Times. Alonso unfortunately has Covid so he couldn't make it, but we still had a great time going category by category and picking who we think will win in each one. We also really enjoyed hearing what our viewers hope to see happen, too. So come hang out with us and win your Oscar pool! The Academy Awards are on Sunday, March 10 at 4pm PDT on ABC. (The show is earlier this year because it's the first night of Daylight Saving Time). How will you spend the evening? Let us know. And if you don't have any plans, Christy is doing a LIVE Oscar watch party on our Breakfast All Day YouTube channel as a way to have fun with their new vertical livestream feature. Details and link coming soon! Look forward to seeing you.

Episode 439: Movie News Live!, Spaceman, The Greatest Love Story Never Told

The big movie of the week is "Dune: Part Two," but we've already posted our spoiler-free review of that epic sequel. So instead, we offer some thoughts on a couple of streaming options that might be of interest. First, we discuss "Spaceman," Adam Sandler's ambitious sci-fi misfire. It's streaming on Netflix. Then we review "The Greatest Love Story Never Told," the behind-the-scenes documentary about the making of Jennifer Lopez's musical extravaganza "This Is Me ... Now: A Love Story." The title is clunky but the insight into her process is fascinating, and Ben Affleck is hilarious. Both of those movies are streaming on Prime Video. In Movie News Live!, we discuss the latest Nicole Kidman AMC ads, Liam Neeson's remake of "The Naked Gun," Mel Gibson and more. And for our Patreon subscribers, a recap of this week's melancholy episode of "Feud: Capote vs. The Swans." Have a great weekend and be sure to come back on Tuesday at Noon PST, when we'll do LIVE Oscar predictions on our YouTube channel. Bring your ballot and your questions and join us. Details coming soon! * We've loved every flavor we've tried from our friends at Coffee Bros., and we're loving passing our discount along to you! Take 15% off your order with our code BREAKFAST15. Episode 438: Io Capitano, About Dry Grasses reviews

It's another Arthouse Tuesday here at Breakfast All Day as we catch up with a couple of major world cinema releases. The first is "Io Capitano," which is up for best international feature at this year's Academy Awards. Italy's entry marks the fifth and final nominee we've reviewed, and while we don't agree on whether it works completely, we both say other films in the category are far superior, particularly "The Zone of Interest." Then we discuss "About Dry Grasses," the three-hour-plus epic from Turkish master Nuri Bilge Ceylan. Don't be daunted by the run time; this is a gorgeous and engrossing film. Both movies we review today are playing in theaters. And for our Patreon subscribers, we had the pleasure of revisiting "Moonstruck," Norman Jewison's 1987 romantic comedy, for February's Off the Menu. It's just as charming as ever. Thanks for sharing some of your time with us! * We've loved every flavor we've tried from our friends at Coffee Bros., and we're loving passing our discount along to you! Take 15% off your order with our code BREAKFAST15. Episode 437: Movie News Live!, Dune: Part Two (NO Spoilers!), Drive-Away Dolls, Tyler Perry's Mea Culpa

We're feeling especially spicy with an extra-long Friday episode of Breakfast All Day. Alonso and Christy have an early, spoiler-free review of "Dune: Part Two," which has IMAX sneaks on Sunday night before opening everywhere March 1. It's an astonishing achievement -- even more so than Denis Villeneuve's 2021 "Dune: Part One" -- and you must experience it on the biggest screen you can find with the best possible sound. We also review the messy comedy "Drive-Away Dolls," which finds Ethan Coen directing for the first time without brother Joel. Of course, we couldn't miss "Tyler Perry's Mea Culpa," since we're completists of the auteur. Perry's homage to steamy erotic thrillers of the '90s is streaming on Netflix. As always on Fridays, we begin with Movie News Live!, which includes a look ahead to the weekend's Spirit Awards and Screen Actors Guild Awards. And for our Patreon subscribers, a recap of this week's "Feud: Capote vs. The Swans," which follows Truman on a magical day in Manhattan with the formidable James Baldwin. Thanks for sharing some of your time with us! * We've loved every flavor we've tried from our friends at Coffee Bros., and we're loving passing our discount along to you! Take 15% off your order with our code BREAKFAST15. Episode 436: Drift, Hundreds of Beavers reviews

It's Arthouse Tuesday here at Breakfast All Day! We have a quick mid-week visit with reviews of two extremely different indies (although they are both about hunger and survival, kinda). First we discuss "Drift," from "The Breaking Ice" director Anthony Chen. It stars Cynthia Erivo and Alia Shawkat as two women who strike up an unlikely friendship on a picturesque Greek island. Then we review the truly insane "Hundreds of Beavers," a black-and-white, silent slapstick comedy that's unlike anything we've seen before. We disagree as to whether it works completely, but we both think it's worth seeing. "Hundreds of Beavers" is playing in a roadshow format, so click here to learn more about dates and cities: https://hundredsofbeavers.com/#watch Be sure to check our YouTube channel Wednesday morning, when we'll have a spoiler-free review of "Dune: Part Two." Until then, thanks for sharing some of your time with us!

Episode 435: Movie News Live!, This Is Me ... Now: A Love Story, Bob Marley: One Love

We have a special musical episode of Breakfast All Day for you as we review two very different movies about two very different pop culture icons. First, "This Is Me ... Now: A Love Story," Jennifer Lopez's trippy cinematic odyssey to accompany her new album. It's streaming on Prime Video. Plus we discuss "Bob Marley: One Love," a frustratingly superficial music biopic about the reggae legend. It's in theaters. We begin once again with Movie News Live!, which we're really enjoying. Be sure to join us every Friday at Noon PST at our YouTube channel. And for our Patreon subscribers, a recap of this week's emotional episode of "Feud: Capote vs. The Swans." Enjoy your three-day weekend and thanks for sharing some of your time with us.
