Each of us have moments when life gets messy and God feels far away. Author Jeff Henderson joined us for week two of “A Life Well Lived” to help us find an answer to the question we all inevitably ask: Lord, where are You? By digging into the wisdom found in the Bible, Jeff shares the simple answer to a complicated question. 

We all have regrets in life. Short term decisions become long-term regrets, but do our past mistakes hinder us from living the abundant life that God has for us?  Mike Kelsey, the lead pastor of McLean Bible Church in Washington D.C., came as a guest speaker to kick off our new series, “A Life Well Lived”.  In week one of this series, we studied Jeremiah 29:11 and the surrounding verses, learning how to live out God’s purpose and plans for our lives – even while living with our own regrets and mistakes.

Throughout this entire series, we have studied David’s journey fleeing from persecution, finding refuge in a cave and, eventually, finding freedom in his new authority. By following David’s life, we can find the path to freedom from the struggles that bind us. In the last week of “Cave for a King”, Pastor Kevin gives us three practices from the life of David to help us find freedom in the cave. 

Before he became a king, David had to persevere through persecution. It was during that time, hiding in a cave, that God prepared David for His plans.  We all need a place like David, but finding our way to the cave can be difficult. In week three of “Cave for a King”, Pastor Kevin teaches from Psalm 57 where David gives his turn-by-turn instructions on how to find a cave – and more importantly – on how to find the merciful King of Kings in the cave. 

Perspective shapes everything we do, and nobody understood this better than David during his time in the cave of Adullam. In this message we dive into Psalm 34, which was forged in the crucible of refuge and adversity, and learn five powerful lessons on gaining true perspective.  In this message, discover how recognizing God as the main character in your story can transform your life. By seeking God in our private moments we can find a renewed sense of purpose and joy, grounded in the truth of God’s unwavering faithfulness. 

Years after his battle with Goliath, David had to flee for his life from King Saul, finding refuge in a cave. David went into the cave a kid and came out a king.  In the first week of our “Cave for a King” series, Pastor Kevin makes a case for why we each need a “cave” – a place to step away and spend time with God.  Time in a cave doesn’t change our circumstances, but it does change us. 

For Mother’s Day service, we got to hear a roundtable discussion with Rea Queen and five other Cross Point moms. In both this discussion and in Rea’s teaching, we learn how we can escape the rhythms of hurry, worry and weary by sitting at the feet of Jesus and seeking His presence. Pulling from Matthew 11:28 and Luke 10:38-42, this is a service for moms AND for everyone else!

In the last week of our “About Time” series, Pastor Kevin wraps up our study of Jacob in Genesis.  God took Jacob back to the place of his greatest regret in order to heal him, because hidden wounds are the ones that never heal.  Jacob’s story reminds us that God uses broken people, because the true hero of the story is God’s grace. 

We live in a culture that tells us waiting time is wasted time; we resist boredom at all costs. In week four of “About Time”, Pastor Kevin teaches about how God uses waiting to deepen Jacob’s trust. The work that God does within us while we wait is just as important as whatever we are waiting for – even when we are waiting, God is working.
