Heart Rate Training For Ultrarunners: Your Complete Guide

Heart rate is one of the most important metrics to track when it comes to training for an ultramarathon. It can be a sign of your overall fitness, day-to-day fatigue, and can help you gauge intensity zones during your run workouts. So, how do you utlize heart rate when it comes to training for an ultramarathon? There are a lot of different schools of thought when it comes to this, but I’ll share the science, what’s worked for me, and what I’ve seen other successful ultra runners do when it comes to heart rate training. That way, you’ll know exactly how to incorporate it next time you hit the trails, the track, or the road. In this episode, I cover how to assess if heart rate training is the best method for you (hint: it’s not for everyone), how to use heart rate to measure your fitness, and what optimal heart rates you should be shooting for in your training sessions.
