Making Room by Gather
Kayty Helgerson
Hospitality. What do you think of when you hear that word? For some it's old school 'stuffy' entertaining for others it's something to do with the hotel industry. One thing is for sure, as a culture we're not talking about it much. Food * Design * Relationships have seemed to have taken a back seat to what our culture focuses on and values yet...we find ourselves in the midst of a loneliness epidemic. Something has to change, it's time to get back to our tables, and we're making room for it! Making Room by Gather invites you into a new conversation on everyday hospitality. One that rewrites the way we approach opening your doors and filling your tables. Shifting the narrative from 'how does this make me look' to 'how does this make you feel' these buildable conversations aspire to inspire connection through everyday gathering. Kayty's chic and a little quirky interview style will make you feel like you're sitting with a friend talking about how to grow in confidence as an everyday host. You can expect conversations from navigating challenging relationship dynamics to foundational cooking techniques and everything in between. Whether you are a seasoned host or looking to develop new friendships and grow in your skills for the first time, there is a seat at the table. Join us weekly for new conversations with expert guests and with Kayty in her beloved Date with Kayt episodes. Continue the conversation @gatheritentionalliving

'All Great Change...Starts At The Dinner Table': Getting Back to the Table w/ Ben & Corley Spell
“And let me offer lesson number one about America: All great change in America begins at the dinner table. So, tomorrow night in the kitchen I hope the talking begins." This quote is famously said by Ronald Regan, and truthfully I believe it applies to cultures around the world. There's something deeply profound about this and in many ways deeply intriguing. We watch movies, TV shows and see families sitting together, often leading us to glamorizing what could be. The table has the ability to develop emotional intelligence, heal and connect unlike any other place in culture. For something so important, it deserves more frequent attention and evaluation. I brought our friends Ben and Corley Spell back on to talk about this very topic, and get back to the basics: - Why does the table matter? - How to get back to that space, if it's something missing in your everyday - Making the table a foundation for kids and family - How to ween off technology when at the table - Emotional intelligence, conversation skills and more Life is full, we're not short on commitments, but what if we changed the narrative? What if we stopped and saw that not prioritizing time at the table comes with a cost? This episode will leave you inspired and ready to take action to get back to the table. Looking Back at Our Journey to Gather w/ Our Brand Strategist & Graphic Designer Alia Merril
With many of you knowing pieces of our story, we wanted to start the year looking back and reflecting on the road that led us here, with the main people who have been a part of the process. To start, we are welcoming Gather's real VIP Alia Merrill who has worked with us on brand strategy, web design, graphic design (and keeping me from quitting) for nearly 4 years! Over the past couple months questions have come in like 'how did that opportunity happen OR how did you get that guest to come on the show?' Truthfully, this is largely due to the work Alia has done and guided me through on our branding over these years. We have become really close friends through this process, and welcome you into one of our laugh-filled conversations today talking about: - Our very first phone call and her memories of my fire-hose like dream processing - The branding process and creating Gather - How our work together has led to many of the opportunities you have seen us share - The process of shifting and growing gather as times changed - What the big differences are between branding and graphic design and why it matters - How Alia shifted from a math teacher to a sophisticated brand designer - How you can work with Alia for the same type of brand transformation! Whether you are a long time member of the Gather community or are in the business space, this conversation will inspire creativity and make you feel like you're sitting around a good charcuterie with two besties! Cooking With Remi: Youtube, Kitchen Gadgets and Korean Food Must-Haves
I'm sure we can all remember when we were first introduced to Youtube. Many of us waited for new releases, while others of us took the plunge to start creating. Remi Cruz found herself cooking most of her life, while also being inspired by her moms incredible cooking. When high school came around she took her passion, started producing cooking videos for the platform and the rest is history. Making cooking crave worthy, and light hearted, her videos grew in popularity and what once was a hobby soon became a career. Remi and I laughed and talked our way through: - The earliest days of content creating and how her career on Youtube took off - Korean food culture: What we should all try when we eat at a Korean restaurant and must have snacks from our local Korean grocery store- What everyone should know about the BTS of creators on Youtube, Tic Tok etc. -Her popular cooking series called Cooking With Remi on Youtube! -How her career led her to interview guests on her podcast Pretty Basic, like Ashley Tisdale and Megan Trainor! This lighthearted conversation is just what you need to kick of the new year! Tune in for everything from fast food to kitchen gadgets wherever podcasts are hosted! See The Good: Finding Grace, Gratitude and Optimism Every Day w/ Zach Windahl
Raise your hand if you look at the world today and think to yourself, "surely this is the worst time in history." You are certainly not alone and the reality is- there are in fact some very difficult things happening in our culture and around the world. This worldview has caused many of us to lose hope, and see the world through a lens far from optimistic. We invited on our friend Zach Windahl, the author of See the Good to talk through what actually is happening in the world around us and help us to change the narrative. Through this conversation you will hear: - Why it feels like the world is worse now more than any other time fun history - We're born with a negativity bias and to always be on edge: This profound phenomenon explained - Steps for the person who is not naturally an optimist: How we can all see the good without minimizing difficult things- What it means to evaluate who is at our table, and extend invitations to those outside of 'cultural norms' - What some of the best ways are to help those around us to see the good-How to navigate reoccurring negative thoughts about a particular person or place Whether you are a person of faith, consider yourself a pessimist or optimist...This conversation is one that applies to humanity as a whole! My hope is that you listen to the episode in entirety for the sake of finding renewed grace, gratitude and optimism in your everyday! The Difference Between Being Curious and Nosey & Overcoming Holiday Small Talk w/ Kobe Campbell
During the holidays we so often are surrounded by people but....are we connecting to them? Hot chocolate, table scapes filled with food, what if we realized that with a few simple changes we can leave the holidays not just feeling full BUT also, connected? So quickly we can find ourselves tossed in the shuffle of shallow conversation, 'hows the weather' small talk, and in some cases asking yourself...'wait, are they being nosey or sincere?'. I invited on our friend Kobe Cambpell to walk us through some eye opening shifts we can take for relationships sake (see the holiday spin I put on that? Ok good!) - The difference between curiosity and nosiness- How curiosity allows people to feel seen- Relationship building conversation starters to replace small talk - What small talk is, and why it's so common - What to ask and how to engage with the younger generations at the table So often we fall in patterns of 'it will always be this way.' What if we took the step to be that change. It's possible, it's not as hard as you think it is, and with a few changes your holidays can lead to deeper connection throughout the year! ------------Visit our sponsor VOCHILL for the perfect gift this season! Heaven and Nature Sing: Intentional Rest and Reflection this Holiday Season
We are full swing in the holiday season. With it, it doesn't take long for us to start to feel a bit exhausted and lost in the hustle and bustle. If you're anything like me, you are craving a way to make the season a bit more refreshing and filled with more celebration. To be honest, I'm not one to turn to quickly turn to nature. However, recently I learned about the work of Hannah Anderson, and the way she uses nature as a teacher was incredibly unique and very intriguing to me. As I learned more and got my hands on her new book I realized that as we approach the advent and holiday season, there truly is so much to learn from the way 'heaven and nature sing'. This conversation is one that will invite you into a new rhythm for the season. Rewriting the way we approach hope, faith, joy and peace. "The secret to being happy this season is, you don't have to be"What nature has to teach us about winter and seasons How to get out of the bustle and develop traditions of reflection As you prepare to host, pour out, give, open your door and fill your table- our hope is that this conversation will be one that invites you to be still and make intentional changes. No matter what faith you practice and what holiday you are preparing to celebrate, this conversation is for you! Date With Kayt: Social Anxiety, Panic Attacks and Depression as a Host and Guest
My stomach sank...*You should talk about that on a podcast episode* my friend said as we were talking on my front porch* "So many people would relate to that", she continued. I ran on over to my stories and quickly typed: "Would you be interested in a conversation on navigating social anxiety, depression and panic attacks as a host/guest?" FULLY anticipating that I would delete the story seconds later... HUNDREDS of votes came in for YES! My follow up question sealed the deal for me: "Who do you want this information for- You, a community member or both." If you couldn't guess already BOTH was the winner by a long shot. So many of us are facing these very things and the problem is, we're not talking about them. The problem is we don't have the tools to deal, there's so much shame behind it and in turn, more often then not we end up isolated or lonely. Let's change that. Let's make room. Through this episode I will be talking to both the guest and host that deals with anxiety, depression and panic. Also, to the host who doesn't face these things but wants to learn how to embrace guests who do, well. Join me for a vulnerable, and eye opening conversation on a topic that should be talked about more. A topic that we are making room for here, especially as we prepare for the holiday season. Making Every Dollar Count For The Holidays: Holiday Budgets, Debt Free Gifting & More w/ Rachel Cruze
How’s your holiday budget looking? That question likely just made your heart sink. As we get closer to the holidays, we often are so conflicted with the excitement of decking the halls and the shock of how our bank accounts look after. Without realizing it, we find ourselves in comparison circles feeling like we can only host that open house party if it includes x, y, and z. Before we know it, we end up either not hosting at all or find ourselves in a pinch financially on the other end. Gift giving also has its way of presenting added pressure, leading many to go into debt that creates added stress throughout the year. What would it look like if we approached the holiday season with a plan so that we can stay on track with our goals while still enjoying the beauty, generosity, and celebration of the season? I asked financial expert Rachel Cruze, from Ramsey Solutions, to join me for this conversation and truly there’s no one better to lead it. Through this episode you can expect to hear: What is a budget, who needs one, and how to create one.Money doesn’t just appear during the holidays; how can we prepare for holiday spending?Common holiday budget busters. The “cost” of Christmas debt. How to make additional income for the holiday season.Ways to save on your holiday parties. To be honest, many of us approach the holidays with the same financial concern, so we're here to make room to talk about it! 10 Ways to Become an Everyday Host: Let's Revisit an Important Conversation w/ Kayty Helgerson
Were you here when @sharonsaysso shared about us? It was the start of amazing things here at Gather! The week she shared, we released an episode called “10 Ways to Become an Everyday Host” and it quickly became our most downloaded episode to date. As years have gone by, we wanted to bring the conversation back to the surface because it is more important now than ever! In culture, we are often told narratives that gathering is for a select few, with a certain income, certain skill set, and steady friend group. What if that wasn’t true? What if the key to gathering is something entirely different? Through my own rewriting, and listening to many of you, I have curated a list of unconventional ways to be an everyday host. Not just any host, but an intentional one that cultivates meaningful connection. In this episode we will discuss these 10 key topics: 1: Seeing a need & willingness to go first2: Willingness to fail 3: Commitment to growth: personally & practically 4: Becoming the designated diffuser & difficult conversation manager 5: Prioritizing ambiance 6: Creating food intentionally 7: Shifting from untouchable to intentional hospitality 8: Creating Systems & Stations 9: Auditing your kitchen 10: Working towards leading with vulnerability and authenticity See this list as a way to identify where you need to grow, what you do well, and where you need to head next! From there, we would love to support you through blog posts, guides, and workshops found at www.gatherintentionalliving.com Cotier Brand:Save 15% on conversation napkins at Cotier w/ code Gather15 through their website here!Support the show
