Making Room by Gather
Kayty Helgerson
Hospitality. What do you think of when you hear that word? For some it's old school 'stuffy' entertaining for others it's something to do with the hotel industry. One thing is for sure, as a culture we're not talking about it much. Food * Design * Relationships have seemed to have taken a back seat to what our culture focuses on and values yet...we find ourselves in the midst of a loneliness epidemic. Something has to change, it's time to get back to our tables, and we're making room for it! Making Room by Gather invites you into a new conversation on everyday hospitality. One that rewrites the way we approach opening your doors and filling your tables. Shifting the narrative from 'how does this make me look' to 'how does this make you feel' these buildable conversations aspire to inspire connection through everyday gathering. Kayty's chic and a little quirky interview style will make you feel like you're sitting with a friend talking about how to grow in confidence as an everyday host. You can expect conversations from navigating challenging relationship dynamics to foundational cooking techniques and everything in between. Whether you are a seasoned host or looking to develop new friendships and grow in your skills for the first time, there is a seat at the table. Join us weekly for new conversations with expert guests and with Kayty in her beloved Date with Kayt episodes. Continue the conversation @gatheritentionalliving

Cotier Brand: Inter-Racial Hospitality, Meaningful Gatherings & Your New Favorite Hospitality Essential
I have the honor of introducing you to my new friends from Cotier Brand, Amber & Marx Succes. Since childhood they both had a yearning for, and deep understanding of the value of hospitality. Through their relationship they realized that culture needed more tools to help lead to meaningful gatherings. Together they have launched a brand with products to help give hosts confidence, and to promote intentional dialogue with beauty and ease. In addition to diving into the heartbeat of their brand we also discuss how inter-racial hospitality is the key to healing, unity and moving forward as a nation! I am so thankful for their vulnerability, truth, grace and space for navigating this conversation. As always here at Making Room, we want to make space for difficult topics. This conversation is not exempt from that. We hope that through this incredible dialogue you feel empowered and hold deeper understanding. Mike McDonald: Politics Around the Table
We live in a time where political affiliation can divide a room as quickly as it can gather it. As critical in nature as it is to all of our cultures, it can be just as intrinsically destructive. I knew that I couldn't tackle this conversation on my own so I invited on my new friend and long time politician, Mike McDonald, to help navigate the dialogue. Our goal in this conversation is not to sway, we didn't come with any political agendas, nor did we directly talk about any pressing topics. Our goal in this time is to give you the tools and perspectives needed to help navigate heated dialogue and land in respectful, community focused, understanding, & honoring space. Ultimately, our goal is to keep tables, families, friends, and communities unified even in the face of conflicting values.Politics, in and of itself, is a necessary community. We support, engage in, and stand behind it. However, what would it look like if we learned how to respect, dialogue, and love through all the values (political or not) that present themselves at our table? The topic of politics is important, but not more than our communities. Let's together engage in the dialogue of what it looks like to uphold and honor both. Support the show

It’s Common Sense...Or Is It?
We live in a society where we have developed absolute "right" and "wrong" when it comes to behavior, everyday expectations, societal norms, and ....hospitality. We are so quickly angered, offended, and put up walls to the belief of "common sense”. However, as I've jumped into thinking about this over the past few years, I’m beginning to wonder...is common sense even real? Is it really a standard that we can hold people to? Is it possible that we are so different that common sense is actually causing an unnecessary divide? Is it possible that the concept of common sense is faulted all together? Join me, as today you have me all to yourself, and we dive into the first of many conversations about the concept of common sense when it comes to relationships and hospitality. Support the show

Brandi Brownlee Howard: Design & Connection
We've all felt it- or at least I know I have! You look at social media and feel that the design in your home doesn't measure up. Or, that you have to follow a particular design in order to open your doors. Our conversation today is one of invitation and is 100% attainable. It would be easy to say that design doesn't matter at all. However, what I would say is that it may be one of THE most important elements of hospitality. While design is often seen as exclusive our goal is to bridge this divide. I hope that todays episode inspires and empowers you to make the little, attainable changes that reflect YOU and essentially make both you and your guests feel welcome in your space! Brandi refers to Hipster Cocktail Party as her favorite Spotify playlist for company, im going to go listen to it, I hope you are too! Support the show
