Constitutionally Incapable with Christopher Curtis
The governing party in Quebec, the CAQ, continues its death spasms with yet another project no one asked for and everybody hates: a new constitution for Quebec, decided on with no mandate and written without any popular consultation. In Episode 91 Jay sits down with Christopher Curtis, founder of independent journalism outlet The Rover, to unravel the insane tangle of arrogance, corruption and stupidity that is the Quebec political class. Plus: Chris reveals the secret behind Montreal’s comically (some might say criminally) bad roads.Show NotesChristopher Curtis on InstagramThe RoverBill 1 (Québec Constitution Act 2025)The CAQ (Coalition Avenir Quebec)The PQ (Parti Québécois)Laïcité (French secularism)Pierre Elliott TrudeauPatriationLinksInstagramMerchfuckingcancelled.comclementinemorrigan.comjaylesoleil.comTheme songFucking Cancelled has no ads and is a supported by our listeners. The Bund, the Zionists and the Socialism of Fools with Molly Crabapple
In the dying days of the Russian Empire, tens of thousands of working-class Yiddish-speaking Jews, radicalized by the triple oppression of capitalism, Tsarism and antisemitism, formed an anti-Zionist socialist party called the Jewish Labour Bund. Hugely influential on the worldwide socialist movement and at its height the largest socialist organization in Russia, the Bund remains for many anti-Zionist Jews (and other socialists) an inspiring example of bravery and committed internationalism in the face of impossible odds. In Episode 90, author and artist Molly Crabapple joins Jay to talk about her new book on the Bund, Here Where We Live is Our Country. In the process of researching this fantastic book, Molly taught herself Yiddish and pored through original sources originally belonging to her great-grandfather, himself a Bundist in his youth. We also discuss the state of antisemitism, real and imagined, in the wake of the Gaza genocide.Show NotesHere Where We Live is Our CountryMolly’s websiteMolly’s InstagramDefiance by Loubna MrieTheodor Herzl on WikipediaThe Pale of Settlement on WikipediaYiddish on WikipediaHistory of Liberia on WikipediaLinksInstagramMerchfuckingcancelled.comclementinemorrigan.comjaylesoleil.comTheme songFucking Cancelled has no ads and is a supported by our listeners. Tech Won't Liberate Us with Paris Marx
As the tech oligarchs dream of subjecting us all to their sick fantasies and their pet governments pave the road to hell with bad intentions, the sycophantic press breathlessly praises each new ‘advancement’ in dystopian tech — and each new phony scam as well. In Episode 83 we’re joined by Paris Marx, technology critic, author and host of Tech Won’t Save Us, one of the most important podcasts of the Canadian Left. We discuss technopessimism, fully-automated luxury space communism, whether sentient AIs will ever be a thing, and what, behind all the smoke and mirrors, the evil techlords are actually trying to accomplish.Show NotesTech Won’t Save UsDisconnect Parismarx.comParis on InstagramRoad to Nowhere: What Silicon Valley Gets Wrong about the Future of Transportation by Paris MarxHow to Do Nothing: Resisting the Attention Economy by Jenny OdellRed Enlightenment with Graham JonesLinksInstagramMerchfuckingcancelled.comclementinemorrigan.comjaylesoleil.comTheme songFucking Cancelled has no ads and is a supported by our listeners.
