I recently had the pleasure of sitting next to a kind and successful retired entrepreneur on a flight home, and he was nice enough to impart some wisdom with me that I want to share with you all today. There's a difference between being frugal in order to put yourself in a good situation and then continuing to be frugal when you don't have to be. At some point, you have to reward yourself. When you're motivated by tangible things, sometimes that's more powerful than being motivated by something that you can't really see, feel or touch. It's also important to resist the temptation of instant gratification and buy it when you can really afford it. We all have a subconscious bias that we carry from our backgrounds and life experiences. We might believe that something is totally unbiased and true, but the reality is that there's a lot of influence behind-the-scenes that we're not aware of, and it can influence big decisions you make that will affect your own life. To keep you aware of accidental bias, I'm sharing two examples of where I've seen accidental bias come into play recently and my (unbiased) advice for how to stay aware of that. I get into what you should be looking for in your financial advisors and debunk a myth about renting vs. buying that I saw on a realtor's viral TikTok video.
