Shit Out of Luck: H.H. Holmes

Herman Webster Mudgett better known as Dr. Henry Howard Holmes or H. H. Holmes, was an American serial killer active from December 1891 to November 1894. Despite his confession of 27 murders (including some people who were verifiably still alive) while awaiting execution, Holmes was convicted and sentenced to death for only one murder, that of accomplice and business partner Benjamin Pitezel. Victims were killed in a mixed-use building which he owned in Chicago, located about three miles west of the 1893 World's Fair: Columbian Exposition, supposedly called the World's Fair Hotel (informally called "The Murder Castle"), though evidence suggests the hotel portion was never truly open for business. This episode is sponsored by PodDecks: Go to http://www.poddecks.com and use Promo Code Larry21 for 10% off your first purchase. Murder Monday: David Bacon

On September 12, 1943, David Bacon was seen driving a car erratically in Santa Monica, California, before running off the road and into the curb. Several witnesses saw him climb out of the car and stagger briefly before collapsing. As they approached he asked them to help him, but he died before he could say anything more. A small puncture wound was found in his back; the weapon had punctured his lung and caused his death. A weapon was never found, though the wound was suggested to be from a stiletto. Keller, who was then five months pregnant, collapsed when she heard of her husband's deathThis episode is sponsored by PodDecks: Go to http://www.poddecks.com and use Promo Code Larry21 for 10% off your first purchase.
