We talk about the cancellation of the Big 10 season, and what it means for the players and fans. Jim tells us what a spring season would mean to players, fans, and the NFL Draft. A great conversation with half of the dynamic duo that was Dan Miller and Jim Brandstatter. He’s always worth a listen. We start with Jeff Okudah’s performance, The amazing combination of Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay, and Matthew Stafford. They are looking elite and possibly unstoppable. Definitely a group for Lions opponents to look out for this season. We also talk about the huge RB stable the Lions are currently fielding. Quick hint: Deandre Swift is just plain killing it. Kerryon Johnson is taking the majority of the reps, and also looking good, but we are likely positioned as good as we’ve been at this position since the Barry Sanders years. We also discuss the great work that Jonah Jackson has been putting in. This is the kind of work that wins men starting spots on NFL rosters. The last of our camp coverage discusses injuries so far and what they might mean.  From there we take a look at the division and what it might mean for the Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia era. There are some additions, some subtractions, and some very interesting news that just broke an hour prior to the show. We’ll go over it all, including reactions from players’ wives and more. Whenever Covid is there, there’s guaranteed to be frustration. We cover the Opt Out List as well, the deadline to sign up, and what it means for the Lions at this point. So far, so good. The Lions Signed Daylan Mack from Baltimore and Chris and Jeff go back and review their Senior Bowl ratings for him while also discussing why he’s free and what to expect from him in Detroit. We also discuss the possibility of re-working the schedule. While the NFL hasn’t been forthcoming with any of their work in this area, we discuss what we would be doing in the background if we were the league. Finally, we give a nod to Jamie Samuelson, a man who was an absolute credit to the Detroit Sports Writer scene. A stand-up guy who was loved by all and taken from us far too quickly. Go get tested folks. For everything, it’s sad that we lose such amazing people so soon. Do everything you can not to be one of them. This year is different than years past for obvious reasons, so the guys figured it would be best to help everyone understand the new process. We also discuss the NFL Top 100 list, Covid Cats™, Opt Outs, Free Agency, and take you on a quick dash around the division. Detroit Lions Podcast Ready For Football We walk you through The Covid Cats™ list – which is our term for the Detroit Lions Covid Reserve List. We’ll help you understand who is on it, why, what to expect while they’re on it, and what it takes to get off the list. We also discuss how this provides players and clubs some needed flexibility considering the surrounding circumstances. We also talk about who has opted out of the season so far and what that means for both the player and the team. After that we dive into the precautions that are being taken by the Lions under the NFL regulations and the ones they self-prescribed that are above and beyond.  The Lions are one of the first 4 teams to have their plan approved by the NFL, and it shows as to why. It’s a well thought out plan that considers a number of factors. From there we get into the NFL Top 100 vote and why the Lions not having anyone listed in the top 100 is a galaxy brain move. In this episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is rejoined by Case for what looks to be our last show before the start of Lions Training Camp. Case finally shook himself free of the shackles of his job and was able to do some podcasting. Always great to have him and his insights. Detroit Lions Podcast Football News We cover a lot of ground in almost an hour and a half of podcasting today. First we take a look at some insider info on college football after Chris was able to glean some info from his Georgia Tech player pal. Small team practices started this week, so keep your eyes open. The ACC should be announcing their plans very shortly, we’ll let you know when we do. Chris decided to give Dean Blandino an unexpected call to get his thoughts on what the refs might look like since there is no preseason. He discussed it in depth on his great podcast, “Good Calls With Dean Blandino”. No matter your thoughts on Dean, he does a great show. Either way, he shares some excellent insight on his thoughts on how the refs might have early trouble without the ability to have a preseason this year. Good stuff. Always fun to give someone a surprise call on the show. We also discuss the conversation that has been happening around a rating that put Bob Quinn at the bottom of the NFL GM barrel. We tend to disagree, but history is written by the victors, so the story has yet to be fully told. Also, Eric Ebron proves that not only can’t catch, but he can’t math either. We have fun at his expense (again) and then ask for callers to share their least favorite Lions of all time. That wound up being pretty fun. We also get into an excellent piece that Chris Burke found a great piece by Warren Sharp of Sharp Football discussing a tendency of the Detroit Lions offense in 2019. One that should have been adjusted for, yet wasn’t for 9 games straight. It may have had a hand in the Lions difficulties in finishing out games.  We discuss, you get to determine how you feel. There are a number of considerations as a result – including, how will less preseason football affect the quality of regular season play? How could this affect injuries? We answer these questions and more in our coverage. We also go into listener questions about the ceiling that the defense might have based on the changes and upgrades this offseason, and we also discuss Jahlani Tavai‘s shoulder injury and how things look there.  After listener questions we chat about the comments Darius slay recently made in response to Brian Baldinger‘s conversation with Davante Adams of the Green Bay Packers. It likely a lot less to worry about than most information and content-starved writers would want you to think, and we’ll help put context around it. Remember, it pays to keep a level head. Detroit Lions Podcast – Still Reporting On The Ford Family While we’re sad to see Martha Ford leaving her post as Principal Owner of the Detroit Lions, we are at the same time happy to see Sheila Ford Hamp step up to the position she’s been transitioning into for a while. She has a lot to offer the team and has been quite involved (by all reports) for a while now. We talk about Martha’s time as owner and give her high marks for what she has done to transform the team and its identity. Her time at the helm will be remembered well. We discuss where we would have liked to see Ford Hamp take action upon taking the reins and what she could do in the near future to seal her position and put her stamp on the team. In the end we discuss the effect of the move and share our thoughts on some of the fan feedback that’s been posted in various forums. Locking Down Our Left Guard Jonah Jackson has finally signed his contract and is officially a Detroit Lions player.  This is a great pick that will have an impact, so it’s good to lock him down and have the paperwork done.  Also, we discuss Training Camp, what it could look like, what to expect, and who is making the decisions.
