Ep: 310 – Chicago Bears Post Game – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman kick off ‘Victory Sunday’ after the Lions win over the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. It was a classic Lions comeback led by Matthew Stafford and with an unexpected game-changing play by the Lions defense. Lions interim coach Darrell Bevell manages to achieve in a single game what Matt Patricia never could in his tenure with Detroit, beat the Chicago Bears – something worth celebrating. Heads up, this is a celebratory podcast. Lions fans deserve to have some fun and enjoy the victory, to savor it, and we’re here to help. Chicago Bears Kept Lions In The Game The Chicago Bears just couldn’t put the Lions away today, they took the leads with an early field goal, but the Lions hung around within striking distance for the entire game. Then, it happened. The defense came up with a crucial turnover and Matthew Stafford led the Lions to another comeback victory. This one was sweeter. After having lost to the Chicago Bears in the last 4 meetings, getting a victory on Bevell’s first game at the helm meant a lot. The game was more fun to watch, and the team reacted well to Bevell. Detroit Lions Podcast Sees Changes Cory Undlin instituted a number of defensive changes, and they made a significant difference in the Lions results. So much so that the Lions only allowed 7 points in the second half. Previously the Lions have averaged more points allowed in the third quarter alone. We saw Matthew Stafford in the shotgun more than we used to, and to good effect. He was turned loose a bit more, and was able to do those Matthew Stafford things we’ve all grown to love. As a fan, the game was a heck of a lot more fun to watch. Overall a good game, with an excellent result and one worth celebrating. The Lions have a long road to recovery ahead, but this was the first step. Ep: 309 – Chicago Bears Game Preview – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris, Jeff Risdon, and Tony Ortiz preview Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears. There is a lot of tension in the Chicago Bears locker room, the Lions on the other hand have just had a weight lifted. We weigh in on both and determine whether the Lions are going to be able to come out on top of the Chicago Bears Chicago Bears Drama In The Locker Room After the Chicago Bears embarrassing loss to Green Bay last Sunday night, Coach Nagy said the team needed to have some “personal pride”  as he excoriated the defensive performance. If a player can get angry because a coach tells him he’s on his way to being a Calvin Johnson level receiver, you know damn well something like this can turn a locker room quickly. A Chicago Bears loss this week could very quickly spell the end of Matt Nagy’s time in Chicago with Ryan Pace likely to be right behind him. We discuss whether this gives the players something to play for or against this week, as it adds an interesting angle to the game. Detroit Lions Podcast Addresses The Lions Situation We hadn’t had an opportunity to discuss the Lions Coaching and GM situation with Tony Ortiz yet, so we spend some time discussing what this opportunity means for Darrell Bevell, and what characteristics we’re looking for in a coach and a GM. We discuss post-coach-firing bounce backs and what it could mean for the Lions. There’s also a great article written by Ash Thompson about Bob Quinn restoring the Lions reputation that we discuss ahead of our game preview. We cover the Injury report, Vegas odds, keys to the game, match-ups, and give you a final prediction. We even have a couple of laughs along the way. Ep: 307 – Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn OUT – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff Risdon and Sandman to discuss the breaking news that Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn have been fired by the Detroit Lions organization. Sheila Ford Hamp and Rod Wood held a press conference after the news broke to take questions and delivered a clear message about the current situation. They also did a great job of leaving their options open as the process moves forward.Detroit Lions Podcast Gives Sheila Ford Hamp an ‘A’ Grade So FarLast year the Ford family gave a clear indication of what it would take for the current regime to survive, they didn’t meet the standard, and were thus let go. This is the first appearance by Sheila Ford Hamp in her role as team owner bringing significant change to the Lions organization, and she did so perfectly. Her delivery and ability not to box herself into a bad position with the press served her well in delivering the message of the day, while allowing the process to determine the road forward. So far a great leading hand by Ford Hamp. The Writing Was On The Wall For Matt Patricia and Bob QuinnWe’ve discussed it extensively, but the loss to the Carolina Panthers was really the last straw for Matt Patricia as Detroit Lions head coach. We discussed Bob Quinn’s draft success in our last show, and it was obvious that he wasn’t performing where he needed to be either. While Mike Vrabel would have been our preference as head coach, there’s likely no possibility he would have done better with the talent that Bob Quinn gave him. We were all in on this duo, but they’ve shown they didn’t have what it took, and it’s time for the Lions to move toward their inevitable rebuild. Please Continue To Help With St. JudeOur St. Jude fundraiser will continue through December 18th, so please help out if you can. Ep: 306 – Lions Look To Houston Texans – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff Risdon to discuss the Lions Thanksgiving Day game against the Houston Texans. We also chat about the Carolina Panthers game as a turning point for Coach Matt Patricia and General Manager Bob Quinn. The Houston Texans Present An Interesting Opponent The Houston Texans are having a dumpster fire of a year in 2020, much like the Detroit Lions. There isn’t a whole lot to play for beyond pride and conversely a draft position. Neither team’s leadership is in a position to care too much about draft position, so a game for pride it is. We walk through strengths and weaknesses of the Houston Texans, the injury report, and our final game predictions. Our recommendation? Enjoy your Thanksgiving, and don’t let the Lions (or the Houston Texans) wreck it for you. Its great background noise, but time with your family will be much more productive. Detroit Lions Podcast Looks At Bob Quinn’s Draft Results We take a bit to look back at Bob Quinn’s draft results and what they might mean for his future with the team. We’ll rank hit vs. miss and give you the overall hit percentage for Quinn. Spoiler alert – the team plays like they draft. With that information we discuss whether Quinn, Patricia, or both will be looking for a new employer after this season. This becomes the baseline for some in-depth work we will be doing on the front office hiring process. We hope to arm you with the information you need before the process starts so you can watch along as things unfold and make good assessments in real time. We’ll have guests and content over the course of the next few shows to provide you a deep dive into what happens day-to-day in those jobs, what to expect during the interview, and a lot more. Really good content/information coming even though the football isn’t so hot. Ep: 305 – Carolina Panthers Post Game – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Sandman to discuss the Lions defeat at the hands of the Carolina Panthers. It wasn’t just a game in which the Lions were defeated, but the way in which they lost that was incredibly demoralizing for fans. You could feel the spark of hope being snuffed as the game against the Carolina Panthers played out.Carolina Panthers Stronger Than The Score IndicatesThere were two touchdowns negated by interceptions in the end zone – but those occurred after the Carolina Panthers marched down the field on long strong drives. The Lions defense seemed to be on the field for the entire game. With no execution on offense, one can’t expect much more that a shutout – and that’s exactly what the Lions anemic offense offered up.Detroit Lions Podcast AnalysisThere is a lot about to take place with the team’s front office and coaches. We discuss some potential scenarios and the high and low possibilities of each one. How good is the job in Detroit going to be? Who will we be bringing in and how good is the Detroit coaching job? What should we expect? We start the discussion on these items and there will be a lot more in the upcoming shows. Please Continue To Help With St. JudeOur St. Jude fundraiser will continue through December 18th, so please help out if you can. It’s an important game for the Lions to stay relevant, and the Carolina Panthers are ripe to be beaten – what do the guys have to say about the Lions chances? Carolina Panthers Walking Wounded The Detroit Lions aren’t the only team in the NFL hurting, the Carolina Panthers have a number of injuries of their own. Teddy Bridgewater will likely miss, and the Carolina Panthers offensive line will be down two players. Both teams’ quarterbacks are injured and we aren’t sure if wither will play. Looking ahead to a short week, the Lions have a number of key decisions to make. Detroit Lions Podcast Analysis We’ll talk about the Vegas line and why the Carolina Panthers game is likely a game to stay away from, as well as where Chris would put his money if he had to. Ep: 303 – Lions Look To Carolina Panthers – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Case spend some time talking about the Lions win over Washington, discuss what appears to be D’Andre Swift’s breakout game, and go deep on Matt Patricia, Bob Quinn, and the Lions regime. We also provide insight on Matthew Stafford’s injury, talk about losing leads, and look ahead to the Carolina Panthers. Detroit Lions Podcast With So Much To Say It was so great to be back on the mic after a nutty week that kept Chris unavailable and forced us to miss a few shows. We greatly apologize for that, and are so happy to be back. This show might just be the biggest we’ve done on the team’s options around Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia. We discuss scenarios of all levels of probability, and some of them are guaranteed to be nightmare scenes for folks – that’s OK. It’s better to think these things through and make the best choice available while also understanding the reasoning and consequences. We’ll expand on these discussions in the coming weeks and even do some deeper dives on a few possibilities, but right now, the table is open for the Lions. Ep: 302 – Minnesota Vikings Postgame Show – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman discuss the latest Lions loss to the Minnesota Vikings. This matchup has been brutal to the Lions over the years, and in this meeting the Minnesota Vikings prevailed again. The Lions did everything they could to give the game to the Minnesota Vikings, including putting only 10 defenders on the field on a Dalvin Cook 70-yard TD run. It feels like the wheels are fully coming off of this experiment, and the future is not only already written, but written in stone. Minnesota Vikings Blues Beater We talk about the situation for the Lions, their coaching staff, the front office, and the players. We spend some time focusing on Matthew Stafford and try to read the tea leaves about his future. There are definitely questions that need to be answered in this space, and in typical Lions fashion, none of the answers are good one.  Worry not though, despite the many requests during the 24-hour podcast-a-thon for St. Jude, Chris would not take donations for drinks – he wanted to be sure he could make it. This time, since the show is only an hour long, Chris went in on the Jägermeister and raised more money for St. Jude – at one point almost drowning himself thanks to a technical glitch along the way. The laughs are definitely worth your time. Check Us Out On YouTube! If you prefer the video version of the podcast, check out the Detroit Lions Podcast YouTube Channel here. Ep: 301 – Lions On To Minnesota Vikings – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris, Case, and Jeff Risdon take you through the Lions loss against the Indianapolis Colts, look ahead to the Minnesota Vikings, and talk through the Matthew Stafford Covid/Reserve situation. We also prep you for Friday’s 24-hour Detroit Lions Podcast-a-thon for St. Jude. We have a number of great guests joining us for the show, you will definitely want to join us for that. It all starts at 9:00 am EST at DetroitLionsPodcast.com The Minnesota Vikings Are Beatable Even after their big win against Green Bay, the Minnesota Vikings have flaws. Both of their games against the Green Bay Packers were shoot outs with total scores of at least 50 points. That being said, they have lost to the Indianapolis Colts and Atlanta Falcons on the way to their 2-5 record. There is also the great match-up of the Lions Everson Griffen vs. Riley Reiff of the Minnesota Vikings. No matter the outcome of the game, that should be a fun match-up to watch for Lions fans. We discuss the possibility of Matthew Stafford playing for the Lions after his trip to the Reserve/Covid list. It is possible, and there are some interesting logistics involved, but it’s still a possibility that Matthew Stafford plays. The good news is that if we have to play Chase Daniel instead of Matthew Stafford, he’s a 2-0 against the Minnesota Vikings, no reason this team shouldn’t be able to help him get to a 3-0 record. Tell Everyone You Know! Our 24-hour Podcast-a-thon St. Jude fundraiser is this coming Friday – November 6th – we’ll have a number of very important guests including Lions players (past and present), Lions coaches, national level sports stars and a whole lot more. Ep: 300 – Indianapolis Colts Post Game – Detroit Lions Podcast

In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman take a look back at the Lions and Indianapolis Colts game. We talked about this game being a real test of the team, and frankly, the Lions failed against the Indianapolis Colts. It was a low energy, game in which the Indianapolis Colts overwhelmed the Lions in the trenches and set the tone for the entire game. While not pivotal to the game’s outcome, we got a nice dose of terrible officiating that we’ve become accustomed to over the years. Indianapolis Colts Beat The Lions Up! It all happened in the trenches. The offensive and defensive lines for the Indianapolis Colts just dominated the Lions this week. It was a clinic on how important an offensive and defensive line are in the NFL. Matthew Stafford was hit/sacked a number of times, and never looked very comfortable in the pocket. Couple that with a team that just couldn’t find energy and you get the shellacking that the Lions received today. We talked about this game being a statement game for the Lions, and the statement they made was unintelligible. Tell Everyone You Know! Our 24-hour podcast-a-thon St. Jude fundraiser is this coming Friday – November 6th – we’ll have a number of very important guests including Lions players (past and present), Lions coaches, national level sports stars and a whole lot more.
