Recognition of the Lions abilities and the quality of their staff hit hard as the 2022 NFL season closed out, and this years opponents are on notice that the Detroit Lions are for real. The addition of Cam Sutton, David Montgomery, CJ Gardner-Johnson, Emmanuel Moseley, as well as the ability to keep key pieces of the team has made the Detroit Lions immediately a better roster. Looking at the quality job that Brad Holmes has done in his past two drafts with the Detroit Lions means the Lions are likely to be better now, and into the long-term. This is a roster built for the here and now as well as the long-term. It is a great time to be a Detroit Lions fan. Scott Bischoff provides his thoughts on what’s happened in the 2023 NFL Combine and what that means specifically for the Detroit Lions. There is discussion on Jalen Carter and his legal situation, and how the Lions can get to a comfortable place to take him at six overall. Carter is an uber-talented player and a fantastic prospect, and there is plenty of time for his issues to resolve. He also talks about quarterbacks, and why they are in a position to bring a player in that can sit for a year. There are tiers of quarterbacks in this class, with Hendon Hooker being in a tier of his own. Hooker is a very intriguing prospect. Detroit Lions Podcast NFL Combine Update – Defensive Tackle & Quarterback Brian Branch did not test like an elite athlete, might he be there at 18? More conversation on cornerbacks like Joey Porter Jr., Christian Gonzalez, D.J. Turner settling into Round 2, Emmanuel Forbes weighing in very small, and the idea that GM Brad Holmes might double up at the cornerback position in this draft. Some conversation about defensive tackle, and hoe Jalen Carter’s legal issues could muddy the water for the tackle position in the draft. A touch of running back discussion, and some discussion about tight end Darnell Washington. In this video we discuss general thoughts on the 2023 NFL Combine through Saturday. The quarterbacks separating themselves at the top are C.J. Stroud, Anthony Richardson, Bryce Young, and Will Levis. We are looking at a weaker receiver class, but Quentin Johnston and Jaxon Smith-Njigba are legit NFL receivers, and Bryce Ford-Wheaton had an incredible workout. His workout and size are reminiscent of Christian Watson last year. Detroit Lions Podcast NFL Combine Update – Cornerback & Tight End There is a small group of excellent tight end prospects, but overall, there are very solid tight ends at all levels of the draft. The Lions could find a very solid player with the pick they received in the T.J. Hockenson trade. The defensive tackle group is solid with Bryan Bresee, Calijah Kancey, and Jalen Carter being the dudes. We are looking at a solid edge class, but not elite. I am not totally sold on Will Anderson as I want him winning more outside the offensive tackle than he does. Tyree Wilson is legit and would likely have had a very strong performance if he would have worked out. There is a small group of cornerbacks at the top of the draft. Christian Gonzalez, Joey Porter Jr., and Devon Witherspoon are the players at the top. There are several players I think the Lions should avoid, starting with Emmanuel Forbes who weighed in at 166 lbs. Deonte Banks is super intriguing, and he should rise with his excellent performance in Indianapolis. Gonzalez is an elite mover, but I worry about his level of compete, and wonder if he fits in Detroit?
